How is this even news? It was reported 2 days about we had bid £12 + 4 million, but it was too low because Liverpool were looking for 15 up front. Move on.

I’ll take Wilson. In fact I’ll take anyone at this point  And he’s probably one with a really high ceiling, especially given his goal scoring, but I worry about his work rate. Not exactly a typical Dyche player, is he?

Would still prefer Buendia or Cantwell at Norwich. Both dropped last week so look like they’re leaving. Buendia in particular is a true grafter and much more in the Dyche mould in my opinion.

If Leicester are genuinely offering £40M for Tarks then we should do the deal.
Its galling it has been left this long into the window as it's been mooted since last summer. Had we had that money to spend earlier, we might well be in a much less precarious position and indeed picked up points in our opening pair of games.

But let's not forget the Ben Mee effect. He brings the best out of any right sided centre half. Question is...do we now need two of them? I thought Steve Cook was older than he is and haven't studied his game enough to judge - he's played a lot of PL matches though over the past 5 seasons...4 of which have been successful. I like Scott Dann personally but he is older than I thought and does miss games through injury....

Maybe Cook AND Dawson...which gives us cover at right back too (knowing that Lowts and Bards are both OOC next year)

I guess that's how it is for Burnley. Chris Boden called this a few days ago and likened Tarkowski's attitude to that of Jason Shackell when he went back to Derby (and was quite back-handed in how he pushed for a move). It didn't turn out too well for Shackell....I'm sure it will be different for Tarks. He's the finest centre half I have seen in 40 years watching Burnley and I wish him well, even though the sore toe nonsense is a very disappointing way for things to end. Watching Leicester rip City apart yesterday you can see why he would want the move....its a much better scenario than him going to West Ham in my book.

The issue now is how hard clubs will negotiate for their players knowing we have a bit of cash. Cook, Dawson and Wilson might still make an acceptable window I guess ?

Let's not act like tarks is wrong about how he's going about it because we were all celebrating the way he came to us. He's a good player but our setup makes him look way better than he is. I'd have dunk or Keane ahead of him.

everyone is assuming Tarks is pushing for a move, it could just as easily be the club saying to him "you aren't playing because we are gonna get 40 million for you and we can't risk it".

He's been top notch for us, and has made us a LOAD of money in doing so - if he does go to LCFC he's going to a big progressive club and will no doubt walk into the England set up - I for one thank him and wish him well

I highly doubt it. If that were the case they would have just kept with the same story.

It's turned from him having a toe injury and probably being available Vs Millwall to the latest from Dyche which is 'He said to me it’s not serious, but it is sore, that’s the way that one is'.

So either that's what Dyche was told some time ago or it's a recent update. If it was the club protecting him then it would have been a clear cut injury with no return date from day 1.

So it's either a real injury, or it's Tarkowski's agent protecting the possibility of a transfer. Since he did the same before he came to us and openly lied about it to Brentford fans it becomes a lot more suspicious to me. What comes around goes around.

Not taking anything away from what he's done for the club and I don't begrudge him a move. I'd love to think he wouldn't do a Brentford to us but I know there's no loyalty in football. Of course I'm still hoping it's a legit injury but it makes no sense it will be the club protecting the potential transfer. Not only because of the points I have made above, but also because given our squad size we won't want to sell him unless we get a silly bid and we're not going to get a silly bid unless it's Manchester United in for him or similar.

One window our only business was to get rid of Vokes and bring in 37 year old Peter Crouch from the championship.... on a free

MG doesnt say very much, but the little he does say isnt usually factual shall we say.

It probably kept the initial outlay down.
Perhaps we only got him so cheap in the first place was because of the hefty signing on fee.

Also oldham had a sell on fee too, so Brentford needed to make sure their eventual cut was decent after Oldham took theirs.

I would love for all of us doubters, including myself, to be proved wrong and that it is a genuine injury to Tarks and that he stays but even I have to admit it's looking unlikely. But if he does go and not play for us again then the toe injury will have been an excuse and an insult to every supporter of the club.

Even with the sell on fee we will come out of it with a nice profit if he goes. I'm starting to look more on the positive side now as I'm fed up with all the speculation. If we clear 30m from the transfer this will fund Wilson, a new centre back and possibly Christie from Celtic. Those three players might prove more beneficial than Tarks playing again, more importantly we need Mee back.

You value the players, and give them a cut of the total value.
I'm sure you could try and get round it by valuing the 3 players at 5m each, however with west ham and Leicester already offering 30m, you leave yourself open to an investigation I'm sure..

I seem to recall when we sold Mears and Eagles to Boltin we valued Mears high and Eagles low, to lessen the amount in sell on fee we owed to Man Utd.

On a side note, when Oldham were skint the other season Brentford bought out any future sell on fee ( teported 200k ) that sell on fee if Taelrky went for 40m, would now have netted them around 2m+... and how the could do with thst right now

Tarks is still here.

When everyone is fit we have

3 keepers
4 full backs
4 centre halves
3 wingers
4 centre mids
4 strikers

so i make that 22. - at least 2 players for every position except on the wing.

The other problem is that we have players within the squad who, on past history, are very unlikely to play a full season without spending weeks/months on the treatment table. Brady and JBG spring to mind.

You’d imagine these deals will be worded by very clever lawyers who anticipate that situation, and, as Macca says below, the West Ham bid rejections will provide limited scope for any funny business. You’d expect to be subject to an FA investigation and legal action breach of contract if you did something so unethical.

That said, given West Ham’s offers seem so far below our valuation, there’s probably some room to play with on reciprocal transfers/loans that Brentford may deem too difficult to pursue.

I don’t begrudge Brentford the cash. Man United was different

Structuring deals with big sell on fees is one possible solution to our lack of cash/unwillingness to spend. I am quite surprised we agreed to a flat 27.5% though. I’d structure sell-on fees so it reduced each year until it’s ultimately very low. Let’s say we signed Wilson for a fair price this summer, I’d quite happily pay Liverpool a 50% sell on fee next window if he had a stormer and Leicester offered £50m, but that should reduce to something much lower the longer he stays here, the more opportunity we give him & the greater influence our staff have on his development.

I'd rather bring in one back up and loan Dunne to a Championship club for more experience. Do not feel comfortable at all having Dunne and Long as our only back up and definitely not as regular starters.
