hebden bridge recommendations

Post by steve1264b » Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:51 am

HI booked three nights (Mon to Wed) in a cottage first week of August.

Just two adults and a dog.

Wondering anyone could point me in the right direction re pubs/places to eat (dog friendly) post opening re lockdown?

I know some places are not allowing dogs at the moment.

Cheers

Stubbing Wharf pub just over a small bridge on road out towards Todmorden. Good food and ale. You'd have to shcek re dogs but they have outdoor seating on the canal bank. They filmed part of Happy Valley there.

Vocation (not sure if they're doing good yet though)

The white lion and old gate do decent food. I'm sure they're both dog friendly.

Would certainly recommend the Old Gate. They have stone floors inside and an outdoor area at the front, so should be dog friendly. They have a great menu and usually a range of about 12 real ales.

The Fox & Goose is a cracking community owned cooperative pub on the edge of town (towards Tod). Great selection of real ales and micro brewery offerings. Always a decent atmosphere and cheaper than those in the centre of town.

The Albert, towards the railway station is another good one, recently refurbished.

Both the old gate and stubbin wharf as mentioned above are very good too.

Pretty much all of the pubs are dog friendly in Hebden, its that kind of town...

The Old Gate is a must for both food and great ale, you may even see Frank Casper in there. Forget the Albert or Fox & Goose, both still shut after floods or lockdown. Shoulder of Mutton is good and may be re-open when you visit. Avoid White Swan. Enjoy your visit

Cancelling the reservation and booking somewhere else in another town is a good recommendation.

Get yourself to the Staff of Life. It's a few miles out of Hebden, the other side of Tod, in fact on the way to Gods Own Burnley!

Brilliant pub food, great landlord , well kept beer , well worth the effort to get there. You won't be disappointed.

Would add Callan's Micropub and Drink? to the above. I've seen dogs in both in the past. Also Nightjar under the Picture House (not sure about dogs).

If you haven't been recently I'd also consider hopping on the train to Halifax which has some nice places in a similar vein.

Would also recommend the Hinchcliffe Arms up from Mytholmroyd for food.

Quite a few years ago I fell asleep on the train and woke up in Hebden Bridge late at night. Scared the **** out of me for a brief moment. I thought I'd got on one of those time travel trains that you see in sci-fi movies or Twilight Zone type series.

Lovely little place, when it doesn't catch you by surprise.

Anybody remember Sutcliffes Farm Restaurant. Used to be know as Mad Willies. Used to go for Sunday tea in 50/60's. It was in the middle of nowhere above Hebden Bridge. Used to go over the Kebs to get there.

The Turkish Restaurant in Hebden is outstanding and fairly priced. The Greek meant to be the same but not been. And heard good things about the Tibetan restaurant too.

All the pubs in Hebden are great. And the food market is always excellent too.

Try the 'Cat i' th' Well pub'. You can sit outside if it's a nice day. You can also start a walk from it. It's about three miles out of Hebden Bridge and well off the beaten track.
