Decent article on the BBC about Warne's time at Accy here:

Yes it was a tough life for young overseas pros in the Lancs League.
I recall talking to John Dyson the Aussie opener in a game at Tod, he was bemused by his reception from his own fans who expected him to perform and win matches single-handed every week.

I was playing 3rd and 4th team cricket for Accy at the time. Remember facing him in the nets and smashing him back over his head. Had no idea what happened next ball as my stumps went everywhere.

I was chatting to Ian Bythell at Pendle Forest a couple of years back, and he said that a few of the better batsmen soon realised that the ball can't do magic tricks if you don't let it pitch... cue batsmen storming down the track and launching Warne

Warne's debut in the Lancashire League was at Burnley - his first wicket in the Lancashire League was that of Duncan Spencer who he had caught for 26. Warned finished with 2 for 34.

Warne's final match in the Lancashire League was Accrington's home game against Burnley. His final wicket in the Lancashire League was that of Duncan Spencer who he had caught for 57. Warne finished with 1 for 72.

Overall in the league that season he took 73 wickets for 1128.

And then he became the greatest spin bowler I've ever seen play cricket.

His batting average was lower than his bowling average

73 wickets isn't the failure a lot of people love to talk about.

All the stories are he spent more time trying to impregnate half of Accy.

Imagine going from the women of accy to Liz Hurley

A good read that. As above the best spin bowler of all time.

I don't recall ever seeing Ian Bythell hit the ball off the square.

Not just his bowling that was magnificent; he had such a psychological hold over many batsmen too. Daryll.Cullinan of South Africa being one of his 'bunnies'.

Saw him at a Worsley Cup Final at Bacup after he got in the Test side. He was mithered to death but he signed every autograph and posed for every picture. Cracking lad. Our pro at Littleborough Mike Whitney roomed with him. Has some great tales to tell about Warney but perhaps not for public consumption! :D

He did say the better batsmen to be fair... :D

And at the slightly (extremely) lower standard of the Ribble Valley Thursday Night Village 15 over league, he used to bat like Ben Stokes
