Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
Surely England can look at other options.
Very poor central defenders.

Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
Maybe Tarks and Mee with Pope behind. And how about Taylor at left back, and maybe Bardsley at right back. Thinking about it, Westy and Cork would be a great upgrade on England's current midfield options. Stick Dwight on the left and maybe put Brownhill in a utility role on the right. Kane probably deserves to keep his place but he could do worse than Rodriguez as a strike partner. Just one more thing...surely we can do better than Southgate, any ideas?

Also, Sheff Utd won't be the same without Henderson next season.

Bardsley has already played for Scotland so would have to be Lowton at right back. He's far better than TAA and Trippier anyway.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 9:43 pmMaybe Tarks and Mee with Pope behind. And how about Taylor at left back, and maybe Bardsley at right back. Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
I watched the first half of the Liverpool/Chelsea game in a local sports bar. Two Chelsea fans I was talking to said they should break the bank to sign Pope and Tarkowski.
Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
England haven’t played since November so I’ve know idea why these types of threads keep popping up.
Maguire has played in all 6 games since September 2019
Keane 3
Mings 2
Stones 1
Why Gomez keeps popping up I’ve no idea why, he hasn’t been playing. There’s more a case a CB in a PL winning side should be playing before Tarks. But again England haven’t played since November so it’s a pretty stupid thread. Again.

I’ve just posted my thoughts on Gomez on the match day thread. I won’t repeat but he is vastly over-rated.

Tarky is better than VVD, I can’t understand why he’s not getting picked for Holland

But playing for a bigger club at centre back you haven't got the luxury of having a midfield bank of 4 sitting directly in front of you every game.

Gary Lineker named his downstairs loo 'Burnley' - he only uses it to do number two's and he hovers over the seat because, and I quote, "I wouldn't touch Burnley with my dirty arse".Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 10:03 pmWhilst we are at it why are we always last on MOTD, everybody seems to be against us
But what about the media darlings Sheff Utd? Everyone keeps going on about how well they've done in their first season, but we're an established PL side and have nearly done as well as them.

Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
We might yet finish above Sheff Utd, whether i'd class us as an established PL side as debatable, it was only last season that people mentioned Bournemouth as an established side, and look at where they are now, anybody outwith the big 6 and possibly Everton and Leicster, is in danger of the drop, it only takes a few injuries or a key player or two losing form, and you can easily find yourself in the bottom 3.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 10:08 pmGary Lineker named his downstairs loo 'Burnley' - he only uses it to do number two's and he hovers over the seat because, and I quote, "I wouldn't touch Burnley with my dirty arse".

As long as SD is at the helm i'd be reasonably confident of maintaining our top flight status, but if he upped sticks it could unravel very quickly.
Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
Imagine how good Chelsea would be with Pope and Tarks. He would be the new JT
Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
I feel safer with Mee and Tarkowski.
Gomez very suspect and young. Maguire is a tank.

Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
If Tarks went to Chelsea he'd be a shoe in for an England start, blimey if Tyrone Mings can get in the XI, then surely a pivotal player in one of the best defences in the league should be on Southgate's radar.

Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
Mings has started one more England game than Tarkowski. Tarkowski will definitely be on Southgate's radar, but it's a little hard for him to win more caps until England play again.

Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
Of course but you'd expect Tarks to feature in the next squad, possibly at the expense of John Stones, who's struggling to get a regular start at City.
Whether he'll get a starting berth if everyone's fit is another matter. But if he gets the chance it's up to him to grab it with both hands.

Re: Joe Gomez and Harry Maguire
He's nailed on to be in the squad, as is Pope. And I'd expect them both to get a start at some point. You could argue that Mings hasn't done anything to deserve to lose his place in the pecking order though.tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 7:27 pmOf course but you'd expect Tarks to feature in the next squad, possibly at the expense of John Stones, who's struggling to get a regular start at City.

Tarkowski has been in previous squads. Maybe Southgate has looked at him and doesn't fancy him?

Southgate doesn't pick the Engkand team ,the press do why else would Donkey Abraham and Hudson-Odyi get considered? its definitely not on their limited football ability.

Well,IMHO, Mings had never done much to warrant a place in the squad, never mind starting. If he played in Euro or World Cup Finals, he'd be giving free kicks away all over the place. All he does is grab the strikers round the waist. Hopeless!

They sound like a Tex-Mex duo.

Man City rather played without a proper centreback, than play Stones!tiger76 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 7:27 pmOf course but you'd expect Tarks to feature in the next squad, possibly at the expense of John Stones, who's struggling to get a regular start at City.
