Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
This is the problem for the West Indies England can keep rotating the seamers, and the pressure won't relent, this is the advantage with a strong attack.
That 369 is looking a big score, but it's worth remembering England were 4 down for 120, so i wouldn't write the Windies off yet, but it's going to be tough for them to get near that England total from here.

Jimmy surpasses Fred Truman against the WI with that wicket, the way he's bowling i don't think it'll be his last success of the day.

Broad gets another Chase LBW
It was always coming with how tight they're bowling.

Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
That's how Anderson & Broad pick up a lot of their wickets, just build the pressure, reel off the maidens, and eventually the batsman has to attempt a scoring shot, and that creates danger, England might be looking at enforcing the follow on at this rate.
36 overs completed and there's been 8 maidens already.
It worked dropping Broad he's come back a raging bull, with bat and ball.

The weather forecast for Monday isn't good, but the way this is going it'll be all over by then.

Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Crazy that they've gone off the field again when the floodlights are in use, this is becoming farcical, anyway 137-6 at the close, and England well on course to win the series. the turning point was Broad's innings he totally changed the flow of the game, and England have been on top ever since.
Pleasing to see all the seamers playing a part, 2 for Anderson, 2 for Broad, and 1 each for Archer & Woakes, and England haven't even had to call on the services of Dom Bess.
And still no slip catch for Stokes after his howler.

Hasn’t Stokes got the most drops against his name in Test cricket over the last three or four years? I’m sure I read or heard that somewhere.

West Indies have had a few free runs after poor tactics with Archer.
Broad comes back on and gets Holder LBW. Back to tight bowling got it's rewards.

Broad's 3rd of the innings, he's on for a 5 for to add to his 50.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 12:02 pmWest Indies have had a few free runs after poor tactics with Archer.

Edit make that 4 for Broad, he's a man on a mission.
Another edit 5 for Broad, might as well give him the MOTM award now.
Still no slip catch for Stokes, they all seem to going to Root or the keeper.

All over 197 all out, 6 for Broad, and a lead of 172 for England.
Steady start from England 10-0 at lunch, Sibley's off the pair which will bring him relief.

Steady start by England 52-0
Lead of 224.
Sibley and Burns trying to up the scoring rate which is needed but struggling.

Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Yes we need to put the foot down, leads well over 200 now, i know it's not an easy pitch to score on, but ideally another hundred or so, and i'd try and get them in tonight for a short spell, i'll be if there's any play tomorrow given the forecast.
Remember England are the ones who have to win this game, a drawn series will ensure the WI retain the Wisden Trophy.
Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Agree Tiger, we have today and Tuesday to bowl them out, tomorrow's forecast looks a real shocker for cricket at O/T

50's for both openers, Root's come out and he's determined to increase the tempo, leads well past 300 already.
Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Eng declare, will have 20 minutes at them tonight, 25 mins too late for me, we have plenty on the board.
399 WI need to win

Great position to be in. The lads have batted really well while I mistakenly watched the football.
If tomorrow is wiped out we should still have 20 overs with a second new ball.
Just nick braithwaite out who can stick around for a while.

399 Is a massive score to get, more or less impossible in just one day.
But possible in two days if the weather turned out alright.
Campbell gone another left hander for Broad

8 wickets thus far in the match, and a quickfire 62, he's nailed on for MOTM, the thing with Broad is that once he gets on a roll he's a relentless force, England will comfortably win this test as long as the weather stays reasonably fair, good for Root to get some runs 2nd knock as well, he's not had a great series, so it'll help him with the Pakistan series looming.
Runs for Burns & Sibley as well again, i know it was a tiring attack they were facing, but they've shown that they're both well capable at this level.

Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
As predicted play rained off for the day, England need to hope for better weather tomorrow, so they can push for victory, what the wash-out today means is that it's virtually impossible for the West Indies to win, so they'll have to try and bat out the day for the draw.

Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Unlikely to much play tomorrow - forecast in Manchester now to be fine until around 10 am tomorrow and then a chance of rain for much of the day after that.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 5:10 pmAs predicted play rained off for the day, England need to hope for better weather tomorrow, so they can push for victory, what the wash-out today means is that it's virtually impossible for the West Indies to win, so they'll have to try and bat out the day for the draw.
Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Not been raining for the last hour here and forecast fine all night. Will be a lot of standing water though if the Roses T20 last year is anything to go off...
Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Weather looking good here this morning, with only a chance of showers at 12. Hopefully get enough play to bowl them out.

Right after I posted that it starts spitting. FFS.
Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
England are 1/4 on to win
11/4 the draw
So anyone who has any faith in the remaining WI batsmen surviving 50 ish overs, or believes the weather people out there, go make yourself some cash.

Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Chance of a few light showers on a stiff NW breeze so the odd interruption but should get a fair bit of play. Plus they can extend to 1930 I think this evening.
Re: England vs West Indies 3rd Test (Manchester)
Our bowlers are fresh, so can rotate the 4 on 5 over spells. It will be a relentless bombardment for the WI batters.
They also like to play abit too and feel bat on ball, so no doubt theyll get itchy feet being essentially a sitting duck for our attack.
A couple of really wickets will see them collapse IMO.
Dont think too many will fancy being a Archer target for a prolonged period of time.

4 down
Great catch by Broad in very windy conditions.
West Indies have come out very positive this morning but Woakes looks up for it.

reckon the Windies woke up this morning and said they don't like this Manchester weather. Too bloody cold and wet. Lets get this over and done with one which way or another.

Not much joy for Anderson on his home patch so far, Chris Broad on the chase to catch him.
