Swansea City v Brentford
Will hopefully be a decent game.
Re: Swansea City v Brentford
Let's hope so, often 1st legs are cagey affairs.
I fancy a narrow away win.

We' ll have the smallest crowds in the League next season unless one of these 2 get promoted.

Want Bees to win but they have been legless their last two games and Swansea must be on a massive high.

Swansea get a penalty but it's saved.
When I saw the short run up I did have my doubts.

Yet another pen where the standing foot points exactly where he places it. 9 out of 10 do this.

Dermot Gallagher has already come out and said the red card is the correct decision as the ball could have been seriously hurt.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 7:59 pmwhat a nonsense red card, game completely up it's own arse with abysmal refs

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
Could be a crucial penalty miss in the context of the tie, i guess Rico Henry will miss the 2nd leg, and the final if Brentford get that far.
The pictures I've seen suggest it was a perfect tackle, but i haven't seen it in real time, so i might be wrong, but given the comments on this thread i doubt it.

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
B0llocks decision, the Swansea players got Henry sent off by pressuring a weak referee.

Ayew atoning for his dreadful pen, Swansea needed that, if they can add a 2nd, Brentford face an uphill battle in the home leg.

More proof, if it were needed, that the ball is not important in football these days. Safety of players takes precedence over everything, it is what the modern fans want.

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
So Henry has his red card overturned, however, when he was dismissed it was 0-0 and Swansea played for 30 minutes with 10 men in what was the first leg of this double-header.
How long will it be before the FA, or whoever, decide that, should a player be dismissed in the first leg of a game and then the decision subsequently overturned, the opposition should start the second leg game with 10 men for the same time as their opponents had played the first leg?
I know that it's silly, however, the way that the game is going, nothing would surprise me!

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
Good that it’s been overturned. For Brentford’s sake I hope it’s not too late.
As for what the fans want and the way football is going. I’ve not spoken to anyone who agreed it was a red card and the Football League clearly don’t think it was.
Perhaps it’s more accurate to say that it’s the way refereeing is going and that’s the problem.

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
That has the potential to be extremely complicated as there's so many variables at play, you could then say the player not playing in the second leg (for 30 minutes), isn't as good as the player who got wrongly dismissed. It would just be a nightmare and impossible to make fair, due to these variables.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 4:52 pmHow long will it be before the FA, or whoever, decide that, should a player be dismissed in the first leg of a game and then the decision subsequently overturned, the opposition should start the second leg game with 10 men for the same time as their opponents had played the first leg?

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
Frank I know that, however, I have no confidence that those running the game these days will not think of some hair-brained scheme, after all, they introduced VAR so anything is possible.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 6:59 pmThat has the potential to be extremely complicated as there's so many variables at play, you could then say the player not playing in the second leg (for 30 minutes), isn't as good as the player who got wrongly dismissed. Bordeaux thinks that it the way that refereeing is going that is at fault, however, when the Laws change as they have done and players can be penalised for endangering an opponent, making a reckless challenge, being out of control etc., etc. ad nauseam it will only get worse and there will be less consistency than there is now.

good job it wasn't a Cardiff or Swansea player, Welsh FA would have over turned it before he was off the pitch

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
So who will be meeting Fulham in the final?
Brentford seem to be big favourites and I think they'd have more chance in the final, so would prefer them to win.

Fulham were quite impressive against Cardiff the other day, presuming they make the final, both Brentford and Swansea would have a job matching them.
Hope Brentford go all the way up though.
Be one relegation place filled.

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
Could make it easier by not giving Keith Stroud any games - bloody hell, this is the referee who didn't know what to do when a player encroached at a penalty. That got him suspended. He got away lightly.Ashingtonclaret46 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 4:52 pmSo Henry has his red card overturned, however, when he was dismissed it was 0-0 and Swansea played for 30 minutes with 10 men in what was the first leg of this double-header.

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
Regardless of that cock-up, the game last week was his 94th since that incident in April 2017 and he is in his 16th season as a league referee and is a professional referee. Such is football these days because many young people are qualifying to become referees, however, they are then subjected to so much abuse at some matches that they just pack it in and this means that the older, experienced referees are not being replaced.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 3:51 pmCould make it easier by not giving Keith Stroud any games - bloody hell, this is the referee who didn't know what to do when a player encroached at a penalty. In local football up here in Northumberland there are a few guys in their 70s who have been asked to go out and perform just so games could take place.
By the way, I do not enjoy watching Stroud referee, it is time he packed in.

Watkins scores.1-0
Just before FK, in corner, against Henry. I hate that decision. Swan 1ft away from him knocks the ball past him then runs into him. What is he supposed to do?

Was nice to have Mick McCarthy backing up Sian Massey's offside call. She is as he said a very good lino, and its one in the eye for the neanderthals to have MM back her up

Nearly 3, hits the post. The makings of a good game this, Swans only losing by one on aggregate.

Re: Swansea City v Brentford
She’s an outstanding assistant referee. I’d put her alongside Andy Garratt, who is just retiring, and Darren Cann.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 7:59 pmWas nice to have Mick McCarthy backing up Sian Massey's offside call.
