Manager of the Season
Depends on the outcome of the cups but there must be a few contenders
Klopp got to be the favourite as they have been so good this season and bringing the title back to Liverpool after so long
Lampard and Solskjaer have done well to get the top 4 and if they win either the FA Cup and Europa League respectively there must have a decent case
Wilder IMO should get the award cos to keep Sheff Utd up would be an amazing achievement in itself but to finish top half and get so close to Europe is remarkable
Finally not a real contender but an honorable mention to Dean Smith as keeping a promoted team up at the first attempt is never easy though Villa are a big club so not quite the achievement of clubs like Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Sheff Utd
So Wilder for me, Klopp will get it (no complaints) but well done to a couple of inexperienced managers showing they can do well at massive clubs under a lot of pressure

Re: Manager of the Season
Wilder for me too. But that's not usually how these awards work so I expect it will go to Klopp.
I don't agree with Dean Smith though. Yes, it is difficult to stay up at the first attempt but I wouldn't say he's achieved anything remarkable.

Yep fair comment and was more just a side mention after all the grief he's got and with having to sign so many players I think to get it to all come together is worth some credit

If Dyche didn't get it for getting us to 7th and Europe then Wilder etc have no chance.
It's going to end up with Klopp.

Re: Manager of the Season
Wilder for me, played great football and out thought managers up and down the country with some unique tactics. If he was called Jose, Ferdinand, Klauss or similar he would be linked with a top 4 club.

It was Dyche's 3rd season in the Premier League whereas three years ago Wilder had just got Sheff Utd out of the third tier so Id say Wilders achievement is slightly betterGodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 6:29 pmIf Dyche didn't get it for getting us to 7th and Europe then Wilder etc have no chance.

That said I think Dyche should have won it that season but I also think its a bit bitter to base your views on Wilder this year on a decision that went against us a few years ago

No bitterness here so not sure why you'd suggest it about from you're trolling again.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 6:36 pmIt was Dyche's 3rd season in the Premier League whereas three years ago Wilder had just got Sheff Utd out of the third tier so Id say Wilders achievement is slightly better

Dyche got us to 7th and many pundits etc were in agreement that he deserved manager of the year for that season.
There are similar comments about Wilder but it won't happen unfortunately.

I think Nuno Espirito Santo deserves a mention too. As we briefly experienced balancing the Premier League with Europa football can be tough but Wolves have done really well on both fronts whilst playing some good football

Has to be Hodgson. Palace should be getting him signed up on a five year deal.

Re: Manager of the Season
If i had a vote i'd give it to Wilder, it's not just the fact Sheff Utd have finished so high on their 1st season back in the big time, it's the manner of their play that's caught the eye, and they haven't been overawed by the big clubs when they've faced them.
But i suspect it will go to Klopp.
Interestingly if you'd have asked this question at Xmas, i'd have probably said Brendan Rodgers would be a contender, but Leicester have gone downhill fast since then.

There is NO WAY that the Manager of the Season could be awarded to the Manager of Burnley F.C. since 1960 and probably not even then...

Wilder is a serious contender, but guess it will go to Klopp understandably. Most people would not have been surprised to see Sheffield relegated. He really gets the best out of players ie Egan, Basham, Norwood, Lundsrom,Sharp, McGoldrick

Pulis won manager of the year award (or one of the versions)
For finishing 11th with Crystal Palace!
So it should go to Dean Smith.

Before Wilder, when was the last time someone other than the manager of the Champions won it? Genuinely don't know.

Re: Manager of the Season
No, I didn't write that, I wrote that Wildeer had won the Manager of the Year for 2018/19. The overall award is not just for one division although the winner is more often than not from the PL. It's not the first time a manager from outside of the Premier League has won it, the award was won by Peter Reid (Sunderland, 1995/96), Danny Wilson (Barnsley 1996/97), Steve Coppell (Reading, 2006/07) and Eddie Howe (Bournemouth 2014/15)cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:28 amHe won the PL award last year? Re: Manager of the Season
Reid went in at Sunderland towards the end of the 1994/95 season when they were with us, fighting against relegation to the third tier. We went down, Reid kept Sunderland up with a run of one defeat in nine games in charge. The following season they won the league. They did go straight back down but if you look at his record at Sunderland you can see why the fans up there loved him.

Re: Manager of the Season
IMO, Dean Smith shouldn’t be included in that short list. Sure, he brought a team up but spent well over £100m to push on and only managed to stay up on the last day. If he struggled to gel all 12 of his new players together, either he bought the wrong players, he didn’t have a workable system or he’s a cr4p manager. Any one of those should exclude him from being the manager of the season.

Not sure how Dean Smith is in that list. I'm not a great fan of Lampard, but he's more worthy of consderation due to transfer ban etc.
Staying up by the skin of their teeth after spending significant amounts of money (appreciate they have a sporting director there) while playing pretty ordinary football isn't the sign of top coaching. As often happens, dramatic escapes sometimes cloud over the actual performances of the team.

I'm not sure when they announce Manager of the Season, but if Wolves go on to win the EL, he would be a contender, he's done remarkably well to keep them going over a whole calendar year, and surprisingly they don't often rotate their first XI, so that makes his efforts even more worthy of a mention.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 11:52 amNuno never gets mentioned really but he's got a really good team there at Wolves.

Can’t really argue with those placings. Wilder’s done a better job than Nuno imo (who I do like, particularly for his respectful opinions) - Wolves benefit greatly from the Mendes connections.

Some people are bored of Burnley. Sean Dyche might be one of them, in so far as he’d like to be given the financial latitude to expand his squad and embellish his style. In the meantime, he makes sure his team keeps beating others. Burnley won more matches than ever in the Premier League this season even though they lost one of their main strikers, Ashley Barnes, to injury halfway through. They won at Old Trafford and were the only away team to take a point at Anfield. They kept more clean sheets than everyone but Liverpool and Manchester City. Players such as James Tarkowski and Nick Pope have developed into England internationals and Dwight McNeil is one of the most exciting young talents in the league. Burnley may not be fashionable, but they are going to be a force in the top flight for at least as long as they have Dyche.

finishing where we did and doing so with spending money of around fifty pence to put together a side capable of taking on on the filthy rich and often bettering them.
