Troy Deeney
He’s basically just said he’s leaving Watford, and swore at his interviewer which was a bit amusing.
I know he’s 32, I’m not saying I personally would want us to sign him, but if Dyche is still here I think it’s tied on.
I am led to believe after Dyche’s first promotion we submitted two bids for him and he’s clearly been friendly with him ever since they were at Watford together. I like Vydra but a small bit of me wonders how Dyche still perceives him as a permanent member of the squad, and we don’t know how Barnes will be on his return either.
Just a thought!

Absolutely NO, NAY , NEVER. Take a look at the Watford message boards this season if you think we should sign him.

I’m not saying we should, but he’s scored 9 goals again in a rubbish team in 27 appearances. He’s still effective and would quite clearly fit our system.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 6:23 pmAbsolutely NO, NAY , NEVER. Nah, I'd prefer us to keep the 4 forwards we have.

No thanks.
At 32 it isn't worth us signing him, we are better off with who we've got.

I think we need 5 strikers in the squad. Wood and Barnes have their share of injuries.Appreciate Vydra had a good run in Feb/March but if he started in another 4 games I suspect he would not score. A very willing worker ,and different to what we have but not effective in the PL. He has had a fair amount of game time since the restart in June, and for me this was the opportunity to prove himself

If we were to have 5 forwards, then the 5th should be a youth player trying to gain experience and play the odd minutes here and there.warksclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 6:30 pmI think we need 5 strikers in the squad. We don't need 5 first team forwards.

Re: Troy Deeney
What did he say to swear at the interviewer? On a side note one of the reasons I'm happy Watford are gone is because of this bellend. As said further up far too big for his boots. He will end up having a cushy number on sky though as a pundit.

Re: Troy Deeney
The interviewer said something like “with your age and an impending surgery on your knee, could this be your last game as a professional” and he replied in a jokey but slightly offended way “I’m only 32 you cheeky ba5tard”.gandhisflipflop wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 6:44 pmWhat did he say to swear at the interviewer? I've wanted us to sign Deeney for years. I think he'd do very well for us but we do need to be looking at signing younger players and getting the average age of the squad down.

Never heard a mention of the knee op, or about it being his last game as a pro.

Re: Troy Deeney
Not for me, he's past his best, and he'll be on big wages.
I will be curious how many PL clubs will be chasing him this summer, he might find he's not as in demand as he'd imagine,
And if he's having knee surgery that would make me even more wary, at his age you don't know how quickly he'll be up to full fitness, and don't forget the season commences in 6/7 weeks.

Possibly but if he's going to be in the Championship, he might as well stay at Watford, you'd think they'd have as good a chance as most teams at a promotion push.RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 7:38 pmHis Agent will know Deeney's options and there will be someone willing to pay his wages, even if that is in the Championship.

I disagree. The passion in Watford has gone. I felt that they were particularly poor at t'Turf earlier in the season.

I like Deeney, but yeh 2-3 years too late.
Can't blame him for wanting to leave, I think it's more to do with the running of the club than relegation.

Are you comparing Frank Sidebottom to Troy Deeney, Frank is shocked.
Re: Troy Deeney
I have a strange feeling that there may be something in Deeney coming to Burnley. I'm not a fan of him as a player of person. That said. Dependent on how long Barnes is out for. He's similar to Barnes in that he puts himself about a bit and ruffles defenders feathers. Albeit I still think Barnes is technically better than given credit for.
I could see the logic in bringing him with our style of play. Definitely hope we don't though. Can't see him being the right sort of character for the dressing room. Not mentioning he is the wrong side of 30 with no sell on value.

Due to Deeney’s age I would rather us sign Mitrovic if Fulham don’t go up he is only 26 in September and I suspect he is on a similar wage as Deeney at present.

Re: Troy Deeney
I think Deeney is getting some unfair stick on here. Toxic character? There's more than a few toxic posts on this thread alone.
He's had a tough time. His employers are to blame for the fight disappearing from a very talented squad. Relegation has hurt him, and there's been issues with his son's health. It's going to affect him.
If he heads north to join Dyche here he'll get my support. If he doesn't, then good luck to him wherever he ends up. I can't see why anyone would liken him to a 'turd'.

Re: Troy Deeney
Well said - and he is clearly not a toxic character given that Dyche knows him well and tried to sign him back in 2014 knowing what he's like.Zom Zom wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:05 amI think Deeney is getting some unfair stick on here. And you are right, if anyone wants to know why Watford are down, just point the fingers at Gino Pozzo & Fillipo Giraldi who have managed to completely screw things up this year. I also thought Deeney spoke really well yesterday after the relegation had been confirmed.
Would I want to sign Deeney? Not for me, but if we do sign him it is because the manager wants him and that would be good enough for me. He knows him and his character, I don't, he knows how he would fit in, I don't. It's pretty obvious, whether we are interested in him or not, that there is real respect between the two.

Re: Troy Deeney
Would Deeney do a job for us?
Yes
Would he want a relatively massive wage?
Yes
Would that wage be better spent on younger players/other areas?
Yes
He'll most likely be trying his hardest to get the last "major" contract of his career (and I don't blame him). He'll be after 2 years minimum length and probably wants 3.
5 of his 9 goals this season were penalties, but obviously that record is from a relegated side.
If he were in our squad I think that he would be useful, but I would just say useful, not revolutionary and maybe not worth the wage he would want. Add to that, the age of our current strikers:
Barnes - 30
Jay Rod - 30
Vydra - 28
Wood - 28
With Deeney at 32, my personal opinion is that if we want to add to that striker list we should be looking younger or 28/29 as a maximum.

The other problem if we went for him is who do we let go, we can't carry an extra player in the squad, too expensive, so which of our 4 attackers leaves to make room for Deeney. If you look at it like that, the answer is easy.
