Re: Troy Deeney
If Messi was available some on here would say his legs have gone and would rather have Dean Marney back.

Re: Troy Deeney
Personally, I don’t like the guy but SD wants him in then that’s good enough for me. I remember the same sort of misgivings when we signed Joey Barton and that turned out rather well.

Re: Troy Deeney
We don’t need a 32 year old striker who wouldn’t really improve us. Stick with what we have up top unless something too good to refuse comes up. Focus on other areas such as centre half, midfield and the wing
Re: Troy Deeney
Deeney has picked up a few injuries this season and looked unfit at times...which at his age is to be expected.
I also think he’s a bit too similar to Barnes.
I would not want to lose Vydra as he offers us something different to the other strikers and I think he’s looked good since the restart and just before lockdown too.
But if Leeds are genuinely interested in Vydra it maybe that SD thinks he can get a transfer fee in to use on other positions and bring Deeney in as a free and overall this would improve his first team.

Re: Troy Deeney
Can only see us getting Deeney as 4th choice striker if Vydra goes. However, he’s far to similar to Barnes for me to be a decent option. Surely our 4th choice should be something different off the bench as Vydra is with Pace.

Re: Troy Deeney
I'd much, much, much prefer to keep Vydra and stick with the 4 forwards that we have. Selling Vydra and bringing him in, would be a downgrade, while also strengthening any side who we sold Vydra to (assuming Prem side).

Re: Troy Deeney
I think Deeney is a refreshingly honest character for a footballer but he’s been the central man at Watford and he’s clearly got a bit of an ego (not necessarily a negative). I also think he’s a decent player but I can’t say I’d rather have him here than any of our current strikers.
A new right flank and a central midfielder is what we need to prioritise surely.

Re: Troy Deeney
I think Vydra may well go although personally I'd like him to stay.
He offers something different but he's not likely to get a run of games
unless we have one or two forwards injured.
He needs game time and he'd get that elsewhere.
So, if that happens then could see Dyche going for Deeney
as more proven in the Premiership.
Agree with some other posters that he's past his best and we need to invest in
up and coming youngsters but they're much in demand so can't see that happening.

Re: Troy Deeney
I'd be happy enough with Troy if Sean wants him.
You've only got to watch the long interview with Dyche to know what a high premium he puts on a player's character and if he thinks Deeney has that, then we might go for him.
He'd be a different kind of striker to anyone else at the club too. Somebody strong and direct and we haven't had a player like that since Gray left.
Who knows though? This is all just self-proclaimed "speculation".

Re: Troy Deeney
I'd be suprised if we signed anyone, but if we do it will be Deeney and/or Dawson. That transfer has got Mike Garlick written all over it.

Can we stop bumping this thread please. I get worried every time!!
Wouldn’t say no to Dawson though. Either as a swap with Gibson or a replacement if we offload him to Boro.

Mike Garlick who has reportedly refused to offer contract extensions to older players with the aim of bringing in younger players?

Re: Troy Deeney
I've changed my take on Deeney.
IF it means that Sean Dyche stays and surrounds himself with players that he likes, I'm in favour of bringing him in and will drive him in myself.

Re: Troy Deeney
Dawson and Deeney?
Both a pair of has beens who wouldn’t get in our current starting eleven.

No way Deeney uproots his family to Burnley, only to play as 4th choice striker.

Don’t worry. He’s going back to Metaluna.

Re: Troy Deeney
I know Dawson is getting on but he can also play right back (as he often did for WBA), which is where we currently have two who can play there but I feel it is an area we need to strengthen
Re: Troy Deeney
If we sign Deeney does that mean we might be in for Henri Lansbury as well?
