Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
I know some people don't rate him as highly as I do and I do recall someone comparing him to a donkey last week on the player ratings thread.
Just thought I'd confirm that in three seasons at Burnley he's scored 34 Premier League goals at one every 196 minutes.

Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
14 league goals in 32 appearances this season.
For a club like us that don’t create a raft of chances, that is some record. I don’t think the likes of Harry Kane would score many more than that in our team. Great conversion rate, not a great footballer but a fantastic finisher. Fabulous signing and must be worth going on triple what we paid for him (no, I am not joking).

I commented today that his goals since returning from injury prove why he is rightly Dyche’s first choice. We do play more direct with him in the side and I can see why people like Vydra, but he’s nowhere near as effective in front of goal. And goals win games (sometimes).
Very well taken goal today as well, it must be said.

He's an outstanding player in our system. He's a very good player, full-stop.
Can do everything you'd want your central attacker to do. Maybe not the fastest but he's not the slowest either.
A significant upgrade over Gray and I was happy with him. Good business.

Chris Wood
34 goals in last 3 seasons. What a great return on our investment he has given us.I can’t help but think we couldn’t afford a forward with those stats, and yet people still doubt his ability, when we should be thankful we picked him up for a meagre 15m( if my memory serves me right), we could have had joelinton or haller for a mere 3 times that price.
He has been instrumental in our continued presence in the premier league

Massively underrated IMO - offside a lot, yes, but that’s a result of the instruction for the way we play.

He gets comments on his offsides, but look how well he checked his run, swerved then motored past the lumbering Dunk. Fantastic first touch to bring it down and then a cool finish. Great goal.

Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
Quiet most of the game but what a run and finish in one movement. Him and Rodriguez are quite a pair and with better service from the flanks they will prove a handful for most defenses. We are solid in goal/central defence and the front two. We just need to add a little bit of steel in midfield, get a new attack minded right back who can take on a defender (Trippier would be a fantastic lift) and a proper right winger and we will be a strong outfit

Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
Scores a minimum of 10 league goals each season, including his first season when he only made 24 league appearances.
Good all round play too.
Hasnt let the PL faze him at all, just cracked on.
Not bad considering the vitriol coming out of Leeds when we signed him.
Other clubs have spent more for poorer returns from their strikers.

I remember me and FactualFrank constantly saying we should go after both Wood and Taylor and couldn’t believe it (despite many thinking they wouldn’t be up to it) when we got them both. Wood scores goals, it’s as simple as that. First name on the team sheet when fit, after the captain.

Although I enjoyed his top corner penalty against Wolves, this is his best goal for Burnley I reckon.
He's very much an instinct striker but today he showed good skill and a very calculated calm finish.

His best goal was the header against West Ham. Still annoys me that it was ruled out.

I remember saying somewhere on here at one stage, that he'd never get double figures in the Premier League. I'll hold my hands up.
That goal today was pure quality, as was his penalty t'other week.

Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
175 minutes per goal this season is an excellent return from Woody. He’s improved season after season and his goal today was a proper strikers goal. £15 M looked a lot at the time but now its peanuts. I agree that today he scored his best goal for Burnley, although both strikes against Brighton last season were good. Most of his goals, however, have come from less than 10 yards out - a proper poacher.

On one hand Wood scores quite often but the football isn't great.
On the other Vydra isn't prolific so far but gets the team playing good football. Brings others into play much more.

Funny you should say that: part of the reason why I also wanted Taylor was because of the assists he provided for Wood (check out Wood’s Leeds goals on YouTube), albeit played in a more offensive left sided position.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 10:27 pmimagine how many he'd score of we had a right winger (footballer!!!)

Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
Wood’s a good player. My elderly parents can’t get past the fact that he’s caught offside a lot and has a quite a languid style which makes him look like he’s not interested.
His goal today was total quality. Did really well to stay on side and He’s very composed in that situation, he’s also got good movement and is generally a menacing presence and always an aerial threat.

Three goals in 1,223 minutes on the pitch for us in the Premier League. What is it you enjoy more than an outstanding Premier League goalscorer?

We play far better football with Vydra in the team alongside Jay as has been proven many times this season whilst getting results. You do know Giroud didn't score for France in the World Cup but was superb for them right ? Never just about goals scored as you have alluded to with other players in the pastClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 12:49 amThree goals in 1,223 minutes on the pitch for us in the Premier League. It's also not a disparaging comment on Wood by the way, he has indeed done very well for us, I just find our style of play more pleasing when we play it on the deck more. His goal today was excellent though and no question he is improving every season

Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
Don't shoot me on this.
He has missed so so many chances, so many sitters. We don't get many real chances yet he misses some he really should not.
The needless offside's issue is still there. Being offside when the backline hits a channel so many times is so poor.
Yet he works tirelessly and the odd time (like today) produces something superb.
Is he the best "in our market"?
I guess he is for now............ Yes.
His selection also dictates our type of play though to some extent (add Ash' Barnes to this).
Be realistic though.
We are never going to spend 2 x our budget on any one player are we really?
We can't.
We don't.
We shouldn't.
We are a club that can only think of making League positions from up to 8th and staying yearly above 18th.
Above staying above 18th is costing more each year.
We signed Wood, - infact all our most recent strikers / forwards etc for bargains or relative bargains.
Same with the whole team (one exception).
I can't expect any huge change in our way or the way we go on forwards.
So we work with what we've got (left) and push on.
Wood could be better and he knows it.
He's busting a gut to try to be better.
Could we really sign anyone better - present times factored?
Unlikely.

I believe one of the biggest reasons for our success and a big area of improvement since we made it back into the Premier League has been how clinical we have been as a team in taking chances and Wood has been a big part of that in the past 3 seasons.
Loved his two touches for his goal yesterday, both high class.

I'm still unsure why my thread was removed where I suggested we signed him. Quite a few were of the opinion of 'No thanks'.
Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
The reason he is offside so much is the same reason he scores so many. He has no pace so plays on the shoulder of the last defender, like with yesterday's goal. If he didn't do that, he'd be offside far less but he's also be less prolific.HunterST_BFC wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 4:14 amThe needless offside's issue is still there. Missed so many sitters ? How many is so many, your whole post is confusing. In the same sentence you say he misses so so many chances and so many sitters then quickly say we don't get many chances.
"He produces something the odd time" you claim yet he has scored 14 goals - Salah 19, Kane 18, Mane 18, Rashford 17 to name a few ignoring the clubs they play for and chances they create.

Before this season, yes, but this season I can only really think of 1 or 2 and he has been our most clinical striker.
Re: Chris Wood's goalscoring record at Burnley
Good player just wish he practised his runs better by playing on the shoulder
