Cardiff City v Fulham
The second Championship Play-Off Semi-Final 1st Leg, tonight.
Hoping for a Cardiff win, but expecting Fulham to go through and win the final.

Fulham will get to the final, I'm sure, because I dared to back Cardiff to win them.

Narrow home win for me. Fancy the two Welsh clubs to meet in the final after Fulham/Brentford both made a hash at automatic promotion.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
My preference would be Fulham or Brentford to come up. Fulham a great away day as was Brentford at Griffin Park, with the new ground for Brentford but roughly in the same postcode still should be good.
I've had plenty of trips to Cardiff and Swansea old and new grounds, those Welsh are lovely and friendly aren't they???

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
He's carrying a slight knock, and Scott Parker says he's being rested to ensure he's available for the 2nd leg and possibly the final, big gamble though leaving your top scorer out, and it's only a few days until the return leg. Seems bizarre that he'll be fit to participate in that, but not feature tonight.
Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
The Emilliano Salo debacle - "He's one of our own" then not paying Nantes has somewhat soured my thoughts on Cardiff. So I think I'd prefer the London club for the final, to then be defeated by the other London Club. Sorted.

Bit low-key at the moment. Suppose quite a few of the first legs are cagey affairs.

How is Harrison Reed doing for Fulham, he's supposed to be one we are interested in?

Brilliant run and finish.
Bit "after you, Claude" by the Cardiff defence, but still good.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
Fulham always very generous with the points when they visit TM - plus Craven Cottage and Brentford (old and probably new grounds) very good away trips - Cardiff and Swansea both proper clubs/proper fans but neither could be described as enjoyable visits
Not overly bothered - the longer we stay in the PL the greater the quality gap always appears to be between ourselves and the teams in the Championship play-off places

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
Fulham should have this nailed - their form towards the end of the season was reasonably good too - if I was them I'd be hoping for Brentford in the final - they seem to have a mental block when it comes to the critical games

Well, the home and away games with Fulham tend to cancel themselves out.EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 8:56 pmFulham always very generous with the points when they visit TM - plus Craven Cottage and Brentford (old and probably new grounds) very good away trips - Cardiff and Swansea both proper clubs/proper fans but neither could be described as enjoyable visits

We never beat them down there, and vice versa.

That's twice I've seen this fixture in the last month. Fulham won both and I just wonder how Cardiff got anywhere near the play-offs. Looked very poor and short on ideas in both games.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
Surely Fulham can't mess this up now, they should be heading to Wembley, who they'll be facing is much harder to predict, but it's possible there could yet be another London derby at Wembley this season.

Fulham looked good. Impressed with Scott Parker in his first managerial role.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
Given the shambles he inherited he's done remarkably well to turn them into a decent outfit, of course his biggest challenge will be if they come up, that'll be the acid test, but the signs are promising, and yet another young English manager learning his trade and showing he's up to the task.

Very good midfielder in his day and not surprised he's doing well in management.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 10:35 pmGiven the shambles he inherited he's done remarkably well to turn them into a decent outfit, of course his biggest challenge will be if they come up, that'll be the acid test, but the signs are promising, and yet another young English manager learning his trade and showing he's up to the task.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
Of the four in the play offs, I think Fulham would have the best chance of stopping up.
Going off what I've seen of the other three in the first legs, they're much of a muchness.
Hope its Brentford, though.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
They appear to be getting their act together at the right time, they have come back stronger from the lockdown.
Fulham teams over the last few seasons have been poor at the back and have lacked charecter, from what I have seen of them this season they will struggle if they go up.
They need to be looking at the type of players we have Bardsley, Pieters, Cork etc who are stacked with PL experience and are of strong character

Scott Parker must be confident as it looks like he's giving Mitrovic extra time off for the final.

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
General consensus amongst Fulham fans is that they play better football without Mitrovic - if he's in the team then it's built around him - he certainly wasn't missed in the first leg
Possibly similar to us with Charlie Austin - a prolific goalscorer but we looked a far better all-round team with an Ings/Vokes strike pairing after he had gone

Agreed - should be a good watch. Cardiff have to go for it at one end - but not good enough to keep Fulham out at the other

Re: Cardiff City v Fulham
When Charlie was here we got better results when he didn’t play than when he did. I suppose when you have a goalscorer like Charlie you probably play to him too much. As good as he was in front of goal we never missed him.EarbyClaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 7:18 pmGeneral consensus amongst Fulham fans is that they play better football without Mitrovic - if he's in the team then it's built around him - he certainly wasn't missed in the first leg

The stands have a lot of people scattered about. I wouldn’t think members of staff, would be sat way above the pitch side. Maybe they decided certain fans should be allowed in for the game.
