If they sell their keeper for 50 million, then surely that's the sort of fee we should be wanting - at least.

Considering they paid over 70 (SEVENTY) million Great British pounds for Kepa, who is utter shite, they can cough up at least similar.

Yes but that was £10m for his goalkeeping and £60m for kicking.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Jul 27, 2020 9:03 pmConsidering they paid over 70 (SEVENTY) million Great British pounds for Kepa, who is utter shite, they can cough up at least similar.

After yesterday, Pope's headed clearances are worth £9 million alone.
His goalkeeping, £60.675 million and his kicking £325,000.

Would want closer to 35mil
They won't get a top class international keeper for less than 45-50 mil and United won't give Henderson up to them
Time to play hardball everyone else is and hopefully we're still in a position financially to do the same

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
The good thing is Nick is grounded. I think he likes it here, and although going to a team like Chelsra would be attractive, I don't think he'd rock the boat if Chelsea don't meet Birnleys valuation.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
Nick's tied to a long contract, so if suitors come calling we can demand a decent wedge, i'd say we should be asking £40-50m.
But do we even know that Nick wants to move, i know Chelsea is a big draw and they're in the CL, but would he be guaranteed to be 1st choice if he goes to them.
It might help our cause in keeping him if he was to become the England number one, but that depends on Gareth.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
If he signs for Chelsea he'd double his wages and get straight in the England team. It seems highly likely he'd be tempted, and so would we at £50 million. That price tag must be realistic since it's the same club that splurged £70m on a bag of spanners.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
Nick still has a weakness in his game in terms of using his feet for distribution.
How many times have we seen him overhit balls either straight to the other gk or straight off the pitch
I just don't see any of the "big" clubs coming in for him
No complaints with that

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
For a Southern lad the prospect of playing for Chelsea is probably quite appealing. He'd also earn more money, get to play in the Champions league and improve his chances of playing for England. Doesn't mean we should be selling him on the cheap though, especially with his contract situation. 40 million minimum.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
Surprised it's taken this long for him to be linked, if there is any interest I suspect Pope will want to know he will be first choice, can't see him moving to sit on the bench for any team. I'd hate to see him go but can see the appeal and why he would want the move, but we seem to know exactly what we are doing in the keeper department, in fact I'd be more concerned about losing BM the GK coach than NP at the moment.
Chelsea are shocking at defending set pieces and the way NP commands his area and catches high balls would def improve them no end.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
Just early speculation , highly unlikely Chelsea will want him due to the almost preposterous modern requirement for almost perfect “ players feet” which Pope clearly doesn’t have ,he has very decent “ keepers feet” though and “ dangerous errors” are very rare as opposed to these fancy dans almost inevitably giving goals away . He’s very Very valuable to us due to his remarkable aerial command .
Though 30/40mill of course he goes .
Often Pope’s long kicks are dictated by our occasional requirements and will of course go askew at times due to the random nature .Though a slightly too long Pope kick is a “ wonderful long range pass that the forward couldn’t quite reach” for a top 6 club .

Let's not forget we have a handy keeper on the bench Bailey Peacock Farrel who Mercer will be working on. Pope came in and the rest is history, so could this lad.

Absolutely. When Pope came in I didn't expect him to turn out this good. I thought we'd be knackered if we ever lost Heaton.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
I think his weaknesses would be exposed if he went to another club. Not a great kicker of the dead ball, not comfortable with the ball at his feet, goes for too many shots with his feet and not vocal enough.
He is well protected here with our style of defending and I would think any capable keeper could replace him and have just as many clean sheets. If we were offered £30m plus I would sell.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
Sorry disagree. He is receiving attention because his record earns him attention. He is also very different than pretty much any keeper in the league because he places effective above photo opportunity goalkeeping. His focus is something that coaches rate very highly. We are talking About a full England international.Turfy Topper wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 1:02 pmI think his weaknesses would be exposed if he went to another club. He was certainly exposed against Liverpool yet managed to pull off a couple of outstanding saves.Turfy Topper wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 1:02 pmI think his weaknesses would be exposed if he went to another club. Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
He’s a homegrown player, he’s a full England International, he came second in the golden glove this season and he’s a much much better goalkeeper than the last one Chelsea singed for £70m that’s SEVENTY MILLION POUNDS.
Given that I’d be telling Chelsea to cough up the same or trot on back down to London and look elsewhere.
I like the idea of Conor Gallagher as part of a swap though whoever mentioned that, I’d take a smaller fee and a few players in exchange , which is even more unlikely a scenario

Problem of taking other players on is it means we get a smaller fee and end up having to pay more out in wages.Hedontplayforyou wrote: ↑Tue Jul 28, 2020 4:43 pmHe’s a homegrown player, he’s a full England International, he came second in the golden glove this season and he’s a much much better goalkeeper than the last one Chelsea singed for £70m that’s SEVENTY MILLION POUNDS.

There’s no doubt if Chelsea really want pope he would definitely want to go there. There’s no chance he would stay here if they wanted him as number one. And no way we should stop him either.
As for this nonsense about his kicking. Yes he’s no pirlo. But I don’t get the obsession. It’s like not wanting aguero as he can’t tackle.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
Paper talk that Chelsea want Henderson, willing to offer £55million to Utd and £170k a week to the player.
He's 5yrs younger than Pope, but less experienced in the top flight, just about, and yet to feature for England.
We would be foolish to accept anything less than £30 million for Pope, as Pickford went for that amount 3 yrs ago after just one season in the PL with Sunderland but he's still struggling to have consistently good seasons.
The fact that Pope has finished above the 2 most expensive keepers in the world helps our case for a high fee.

Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
You see if Pope was at say Man Utd he would be worth 80 million now at Burnley the same player is worth half that much , hummmm boils my blood
Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
His value will probably be a bit depressed as three decent goalkeepers were relegated.
Re: Nick Pope - Chelsea
All depends on who wants the player and who he plays for.
Say West Ham wanted Pope. It’ll cost them more than what it would Man U for instance. Their in our “mini” league so to speak. It’s the same for top players at top clubs. If Pope was at Man U, Chelsea (for arguments sake) would have to pay far more than Real Madrid.
