Well that certainly caused some titivation amongst the guilt ridden! Govt advice wasn’t to go on holiday incidentally.
Just pointing out that new restrictions were always likely to come in and the stupidity of folk not to recognise this.
Especially those that plead poverty and then blame the govt and beg for tax payer recompense for having to stay at home for a further two weeks.
If you feel that’s acceptable, fair enough - I personally don’t.
You're still not acknowledging the point that a large percentage of these holidays will have been booked between 6 and 12 months ago, long before the term Covid-19 was even invented. So it's nothing to do with going against govt. advice at the time, nor is it to do with a lack of commonsense. Life was pretty much normal for everyone until mid to late February this year.
And given that recently people have been encouraged by the govt. to get back to normal so far as possible, you couldn't reasonably expect people in the past few weeks to cancel their paid for holidays and lose all their money. If the govt.were to officially advise against foreign travel (which might enable people to claim on their travel insurance), then that might be a slightly different scenario

Truth is that it’s fabulous here in Athens, just thought I’d post some gentle advice. Obviously the Magallufas aren’t reciprocal, but hey ho and Baaaaah x

What's the saying " never trust a Greek talking codswallop " . Me and tuther arf are hopefully off to Rome for a week on the 28th of September . This was booked with a £400 deposit last year . We've contemplated cancelling but the week has been set in stone by the mrs firm , and i don't trust the British weather at that time of year ! ( mevagissey already booked for next August ) .

2 people from work currently on holiday on Ibiza. One of them was a last minute booking having had their previous holiday cancelled. Shame the quarantine situation has come in literally just after they have gone. Things could change in the interim but at moment they'll have to go in to quarantine on their return. Just when we people were supposed to be coming back in to the workplace this kicks in. Great! I'm the only one in office at present as it is lol! Ah well crack on Haha

If you want a timeline, there's a bit of a clue in the name of the virus.
CoviD (December) - 19, (2019). That was in China. No one in the UK,(and the West generally) took much interest in it until late January at the earliest.
We didn't have lockdown or quarantine for previous recent pandemics such as Sars, Mers Swine flu etc, so only people like you with incredible mystic powers could have predicited the situation that we're now in when people were booking holidays last winter,(or earlier).

Life in this country has become so divisive and lacking in nuance. This thread is a complete embarrassment. I am going to France in the camper van for 2 weeks with the kids and I am looking neither for reassurance nor damnation from a Burnley FC message board. Individuals make their choices based on circumstances, risk appetite etc.
Sorry carry on in your endless gammons v luvvies tribal quests.

I think if you read the thread it's a minority of one who would be against your holiday, hardly a tribal quest

Ive risked booking a few, however the only risk is around 100 quid in flights. Everything else is cancelable on booking.com or flexible international train services.
Not to play a tiny violin, but ive been busy as f**k and under pressure while friends have been boasting about all their time off, so frankly i need some time away.
Naples start of September
Zadar End of September
Budapest for a week end of October
Can't bloody wait

Is there any limit to your arrogance? I don't know what resources you have that makes you right and the government as a whole wrong, but I suspect arrogance is just about all you've got. Nothing about your posts suggests that you actually know anything.

If the government doesn't know anything, why do you care whether people obey them or not?

More importantly, are you having a good time Jack laid in your bed with your duvet pulled up to your eyes and the curtains drawn?
I hope you’ve put something under the door to block the virus from entering through the gap. It’ll be waiting for you to blink first.

No - I’ve used my own common sense throughout - the advice/ legislation from these bimbos has been ill thought out and puerile. History will condemn ministers - let’s wait and see. Don’t expect people to live as puritans, but MUST having holidays is slightly ludicrous.

So you approve of ignoring the government and using your own common sense, then? I suppose that's why most of your oppobrium is directed at those following the rules.

How anal of you to check dates.......simple fact is that I don’t live on YOUR board......did think it was acceptable to dip in and out. My observation hasn’t waivered - still think it’s comical how a few of you have this desperation to visit foreign shores and are stunned when your holidays are curtailed or cancelled.

But you posted today when nobody had mentioned anything about holidays, cancelled, curtailed or anything else for over a week
So whatever it is you think is comical, it's not being discussed on here until you are let out on day release.

Enjoy it, hopefully some testing might have gone by then.
We've had one holiday last month, and another two before end of November, bit of a drag doing the paperwork, but it's worth it

Aye, fully vaxed so no testing needed.
Heading to the UK the Friday after, and i believe i still need the 2nd day test which feels like being hung upside down so some coins fall out, frankly.

I'd leave as late as possible to book that 2nd day one... Might be the cheaper one by then

Cheers! Did 17 days in Spain in July, which was very much needed, although id not spend so long in one place next time, it was a bargain so was rude not to go for it.

I am off to Spain for a week in a couple of weeks time. Back on Friday, for Burnley on Saturday then back for another week in Spain on the Monday!
Ryanair messed with my dates!
Sounds exotic but flights were next to nothing. I take one small bag as my partner has the flat where she lived, until she came to UK. Her son still lives there.

Was in Spain a couple of weeks ago all easy done with an EU cert and flying within the EU , hey decided to take a week in Malta this weekend .
Happy travels .
Same here, just back from a week's cycling in Denia, Spain at a mate's place. Sorting out the tests is easy enough and if you can get away in the next few weeks, do it. Ryanair are practically giving tickets to Alicante and back away.

Was due to go to centerparcs in Feb but it got cancelled (Cant say im gutted as the cost of some of the activities made me wonder if they came with a happy ending
). Sadly atm im eating around 70 quid on the flights as the change fee was more than any new flights booked on their own.
Decided to say sod it and booked a week to Benalmadena instead. Nice AI place for a week of defrosting, pickling
, and relaxing in the indoor pool. Lovely
