I came across this item on a local football website (my translation to English)

22-year old Central Defender Luke Tabone is expected to go to England in the coming days for a trial with League 1 side Burton Albion. Tabone is a product of the Nadur Youngsters (Gozo Football Association) nursery and is currently training with Hamrun Spartans FC (Malta, for whom Ray Hankin played in the late 1980s) for whom he will sign if the trial is not successful. This is not Luke's first experience in England as he had a 2-year stay in Burnley's Youth Academy

Anyone can shed any light on when Luke was with the Clarets and the circumstances? Given that a 2 year spell is mentioned it probably was not a trial but Luke was over there with his family?

Apparently he was with the Shadow Youth Team (whatever that is) and went on to play for Southport in the National League North.

It’s run in conjunction between BFC in the Community and Nelson and Colne college. The students do college courses relating to sport (PE diplomas etc) whilst also training “like” the Burnley youth team. They have some matches at Barnfield I believe and play in one of the northwest leagues. The standard isn’t too bad and they occasionally have players selected for local pro teams. One I know of had a trial at Bury a few years back.
