If we didn’t know that before the city game JD, we certainly knew after.
Very happy with this news... well done Ben Mee, and well done BFC.

He's very much like Tom in that he's not demonstrative at all, and by that I mean off the pitch really. And also like Tom, he is clearly very respected.

Double good news then. Don't understand why Sean had to make such a fuss when the Club was trying to work out what to do about Covid.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 5:43 pmThe start of a few I hope, exactly what Dyche has been asking for

Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
I wasn't at all sure when he first came. He was playing centre half and looked well short of what was required. Problem was, he was playing alongside David Edgar. Eventually moved to left back by Eddie Howe where we were desperate with Brian Easton playing, and then eventually, at the end 2015 he was moved back to the centre and he's never looked back.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 6:00 pmWhat a player Ben Mee has been, and continues to be, for us. Good chance he will break into the top 10 all time appearances list. I can’t imagine that will happen too many times in the future with how modern football is.

But why go so public at such a sensitive time? Will never believe that he wanted Hart and Lennon here for next season. Great news but a little concerning an extension clause had to be triggered which was already agreed to in the previous "new contract" rather than an actual new contact taking it past a 1 year extension,

It was only last season (2018-2019) that I read a post on here stating that Ben Mee was "no better than league one standard".
I hope that poster is now suitably embarrassed.

Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
Excellent news means Ben will still be a Claret for at least another 2 years, his partnership with Tarks is a key area to our success.
Hopefully get a few others tied up we've got a lot ooc in 2021, so decisions need to be made one way or the other with the following.
Phil Bardsley
Johann Berg Gudmundsson
Robbie Brady
Jack Cork
Kevin Long
Matt Lowton
Erik Pieters
Jay Rodriguez
Matej Vydra
Ashley Westwood
The fact that Ben has committed might influence some others who were wavering, and also it's hopefully a sign that Sean is sticking around for the foreseeable future.

Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
This window was never the right time to sign players whose contracts had come to an end. This is exactly the right time to deal with the players whose contracts end next year and that’s what Dyche has been saying.summitclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 6:17 pmBut why go so public at such a sensitive time? We could so easily have lost some other players but for intervention by people supporting the manager.

Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
I wasn't talking about the players whose contracts ended this summer. I was about the likes of Westwood whose contracts end next year. So we agree on that. What I am saying is that Sean should not have made a public fuss about it like he did. Hendrick could have signed up ages ago s wouldn't. Why would we have made offers to Hart and Lennon, even before Covid? Don't think anyone on here would have.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 7:29 pmThis window was never the right time to sign players whose contracts had come to an end. Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
I’m not suggesting that we’d have offered deals to Lennon & Hart but it was revealed recently that any contract offer to Hendrick was too late.summitclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 8:18 pmI wasn't talking about the players whose contracts ended this summer. We did contract deals for Taylor, Barnes & Wood during the season and I know that only came about because Dyche got others to intervene. No wonder the manager is frustrated.

Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
Well, I hope Bards and Pieters earn themselves another 12 months by November. I hope Robbie Brady can convince us between now and January that he can be a good investment beyond next summer, Gudmundsson can avoid more injuries and that the rest are signed up on what they have achieved so far. Add 3 new faces to lift dressing room spirits further and we can continue to strengthen our on-field achievements.

Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
Seems an odd time to trigger the extension, hes an ACL in April/May next season off not playing again for us in that extension we've taken.
Surely the best time to trigger the extension is after the last game of the 2020/21 season?
We fell into that trap with Defour activating it too early.
Maybe if we could have made it until 2023 it may have been worth making it happen now.
Good news, just seems and odd and more risky to do it now IMO.

Just really good news. Proud of Ben as captain and the way he led the club through the embarrassment of the plane saga was exemplary, something that earned the club enormous respect from the watching football world.
He’s a fine player too and if we can keep our Team spine together with a few additions we will be well placed to take on the challenge of 2020/21.

So by the sounds of it, the option was in Ben's hands not ours?
If that's the case, it makes sense.
Re: ARTICLE: Contract extension for Mee
I think so, however they've done the exact think I have mentioned for both Brady and Westwood, and I'd say it hasn't effected the latter too badly, he's had a great season, some would say it may have kept him hungry and sharp.daveisaclaret wrote: ↑Wed Jul 29, 2020 11:40 pmI think footballers are probably happier when their employer treats them like a human instead of like an asset.

I know you struggle with reading, but like I mentioned they did exactly that with Brady and Westwood, but not Mee.
Obviously a change in approach and there must be a reason for doing it now, when historically the club haven't.

This may surprise you a little, but my comment was nothing to do with you, in fact my comments never are due to me not really reading your posts. Not everything is about you. In fact reading your replies to this I wouldn't even say your posts are negative just a bit strange. Hopefully when reading my posts now you won't get this feeling they are all about you, you really aren't that important.

Yes, but if we don't exercise it then he's free to talk to other clubs next January, even sign a pre-contract with a club outside of England, and then we've lost that option should he choose to do so. The sooner these deals are done, the better.

We've lost the manager this week I'm afraid - he's away on holiday I don't think I've ever looked forward to him returning more than I do right now. When I see him in our technical area on 12th September there will be a huge sigh of relief.
