Thomas Frank
Thomas Frank
I remember posting on here a while ago about this manager and would like him should Dyche go - I actually wanted him in as he plays better standard of football but anyway who were the people who ridiculed me on here and look at the job he has done at Brentford and especially the style of football he plays.

If Brentford get promotion we will judge him in 12 months time.
I think Brentford will struggle if they play the same kind of free flowing football in the Premier league. Sides like ours will expose them and their confidence will soon disappear, along with their Premier league status

Not sure about that as we struggled both games against Sheff United this season.Top Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 12:31 pmIf Brentford get promotion we will judge him in 12 months time.

Yeah. Much like Norwich. A lot of people were praising Farke for his style, but some of the Canaries defending was laughable and easily exposed.Top Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 12:31 pmIf Brentford get promotion we will judge him in 12 months time.

Frank seems OK, but let's see what the step-up produces.
Re: Thomas Frank
Blackpool played some attractive football under Ian Holloway, defence is crucial in the Prem. Sheff Utd got it right with a brilliant keeper.

I will be very surprised if Frank makes it in the Premier league. I think he will be stubborn and stuck in his ways and keep playing the same style, which will see his defence exposed and ripped to shreads.
I can't see Brentford spending shed loads like Sheffield United with their new stadium to pay for. If they go up they will be nailed on for relegation

Would our fans really tolerate someone like Thomas Frank as our manager?
Jay Rod gets enough pelters for his barnet and he's a local lad. A foreigner would stand next to no chance on here with that hair do.

the issue is not Frank per se. rather the pace of change post Dyche, anyone who cares to can see that our style and ability is evolving season on season, as we bring better players into the squad - fully fit we could easily play 4-2-3-1 now and at times this season when we hunt for goals it has been much more aggressive and free flowing than that.BOYSIE31 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 12:13 pmI remember posting on here a while ago about this manager and would like him should Dyche go - I actually wanted him in as he plays better standard of football but anyway who were the people who ridiculed me on here and look at the job he has done at Brentford and especially the style of football he plays.

Re: Thomas Frank
There is a element of truth in that - though I would say that when Joey is playing on song that 4-4-2 headed by Wood and Barnes is quite attacking and exciting. Both Taylor and Pieters have played like wing banks at times as Dwight drifts in field in search of a way to break through in a game (that occurred earlier in the season too - though not as much), Brownhill has given us drive from the centre of the park. You can argue some changes in approach have been forced though injuries, though the players used have been brought into the club by the manager looking for a greater flexibility in how we play. I still believe we are evolving and getting much better.

That’s why some come on here. The recent run has made it difficult for them. Let’s wait and see what this bloke does should they go up but I’d rather have a Wilder in our dug our than Frank.

He might be a horses for courses manager. He had them playing some wonderful stuff this season but it won’t work next time. It will be difficult for him to change in only 6 weeks.
SD in the Championship had us playing some excellent stuff but he changed to survive and season on season he has improved us. The only blip being the first half of last season for whatever reason.

In Dyche's first full season it was even more free-flowing. We had Trippier and Ings in the Championship though so Dyche could play that way.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 2:00 pmI remember the football Burnley played under Dyche when going 23 undefeated..... it’s a bit different when you’re playing Liverpool, Man City et al and not Preston, Blackburn and Birmingham.
We were more expansive when we had a fit Defour in midfield.
There are some dorks who apparently believe we'd be playing the same style if we magically signed Ronaldo, Messi, Greizman etc.
Dyche always adapts style to suit the players.

Brentford sold Griffin Park to developer EcoWorld for £32 million. Bizarrely, they have also sold the new stadium for £52 million. I can't tell if they've sold it to EcoWorld or a company called Lionel Road Developments Ltd (I'm a bit crap at reading Companies House info). Anyway, the result is that Brentford will be tenants in the new stadium and will therefore a) have to pay rent; and b) share it with the egg chasers London Irish, which happens when you don't own the stadium. But with minimal debt, the initial windfall from selling the two stadiums and the circa £100 million on offer from promotion to the Premier League, they will have cash to spend. That said, I agree that they'll find the Premier League a whole lot more of a challenge than the Championship.*Top Claret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 12:57 pmI can't see Brentford spending shed loads like Sheffield United with their new stadium to pay for. Thomas Frank has done a good job at Brentford, but the PL is a whole different ball game, and unless they strengthen they'll get a sharp dose of reality very quickly.
Their BMW trio have flourished in the Championship, but whether they'll be able to replicate that against much better defences i have my doubts.

Re: Thomas Frank
a land deal enabled them to post large profits on 2018/19 - would have been profitable on player sales anyhow - they key for them is they make large operational losses year on year, they need to sell players every year (and no matter how good your scouting/coaching that is a big ask in the top flight - ask Watford) - they are also into the owner for £100m + and only £20m of that is related to the new ground - that new ground will have a lot of corporate seating so I expect their matchday will jump (certainly way past ours). but as to becoming self sufficient - that would require a prolonged stay in the Premier League and as stated the rest of the model is likely to eventually compromise that objective.

pssst, don't forget Aston Villa
I like everything about Brentford and the way they have gone about their business. Our recruitment seemed to be boosted when McPartland joined us albeit briefly. Some of the players they bring through using their model are excellent. Tarkowski and Gray being but two.
Frank or someone very close to that type of Manager suits us perfectly. Hopefully we will have SD for a few more years but I'm thinking the same as you.

Re: Thomas Frank
BOYSIE do you ever look at the positives in Sean Dyche's reign?, all you seem to want to do is moan and groan, whatever faults Sean has, and he does have faults, he's ensured we're competing in the PL, and mixing it with the big boys, i'd rather we had that than playing pretty football towards the bottom of the Championship, which was the case before he took the helm.
If Brentford are going to make a fist of it should they be promoted, they'll have to adapt their style, because if they don't they'll be picked off by the rest of the league, and end up going the same way as Norwich.

He's done a very good job. However, showed a real lack of class last night when he withheld the ball from the Swansea lad and then dropped it behind him resulting in a scuffle.
Also, no surprises here from BOYSIE31 and his opinions. Sadly, all very predictable.

We would however be swapping a football manager in SD for a 1st team coach in Frank which would probably mean additionally employing a General manager/Director of Football to do the non-coaching part of the job.........Mike Rigg, anyone?
