Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
On the subject of people dying, the WHO reckons that 10,000 children per month around the world are dying of malnutrition (over and above the "normal" number) because of the effects of lockdown in the wealthy west as well as in the impoverished parts of the world. When we're bearing in mind the effects of the 8 extra cases in Pendle yesterday, we could bear in mind those 10,000 foreign lives as well, and err on the side of re-opening for business.

Pretty much the same as what I’ve been told for areas of Greater Manchester also.Dazzler wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:05 pmNothing drastic at all.
The missus is NHS Staff. All NHS Staff receive regular updates of the numbers of new infections and those admitted to hospital within East Lancashire.
She tells me it is supposed to be classified information so I'm under strict orders not to divulge.
What I can disclose is their are no covid patients in Burnley General.

Mystify, were are you getting your info from? I'm not doubting you. It's just that I can only find the infection rate updates for Lancashire as a whole and not individual towns.

Fair points but the lack of clarity and detail is actually what i find most galling.

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
I was speaking to a manager at the NHS last week and he said there was only 6 people in hospital with the virus in Lancashire (although I don't know if he meant East Lancs) and they were all long term patients.
No new patients admitted for quite a while.

That's not a shambles that is decisive action based on the fact that a considerable number of people in these regions have totally ignored the guidelines.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:01 pmUtter shambles again from this government. People are dieing because of selfish individuals. I would hope that you would turn on people breaking social distances, not wearing masks etc and tell them straight about how much they are causing grief to the.majority of people.
If you are one of those selfish people shame on you. You are costing people their livelihoods, their health. take a long hard look at yourself if this is the case.

4 new cases out of a population of 70,000 is an extraordinarily low number

It's a place where people go to play football, and it's staying open. How can that be safer than being at the house of a neighbour?Loyalclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:01 pmBars, restaurants, pubs and gyms to stay open according to the local MP.

It's the trend which is important, the reproduction rate, not just in Burnley (or any given area) but its locality also. There's latency between infection and symptoms, and even more latency in reporting. Take this deadly seriously, folks.

More detail would be helpful. I think I’m correct in saying that the Leicester lockdown hasn’t included all LE postal areas.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:08 pmFair points but the lack of clarity and detail is actually what i find most galling.
I’m a BD post code so assume it’s all BD post codes affected. BD goes as far out as Skipton, so saying it applies to Bradford could be misleading.

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
If people abided by the original lockdown measures we wouldn't be having this spike so early. I'm sick of tossers who feel that rules are for others to abide by. Absolutely sick to the back teeth of them. Selfish bastards screwing up the whole country.

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
It is fairly obvious to anyone watching closely in the last week that the South Asian communities are mainly responsible for the growth in cases - I have been watching the attached tracker from the Government (positive tests at what looks like ward level) and the correlation is that most of these areas have large south asian communities (the Burnley area most affected is Daneshouse, there are similar themes in Halifax, Blackburn, Bradford, Oldham, Rochdale, Sheffield and Birmingham on the chart).

I’m not saying these communities have done anything wrong of course, they tend to gather in large groups in houses which normally would be a very good social thing, but the uptick does need bringing under control, and it cannot wait for Eid to be over. It’s probably also fair not to target certain ethnic communities but to tighten the whole towns. It’s unfortunate but I think the government is right in this instance.

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
Sounds like there may be some truth in that but i also saw an interesting report on the news about a significant growth in affluent Trafford areas where the spike came from well to do middle class households mixing, particularly younger people. So the growth must be happening in a range of settings and communitiesCrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:17 pmIt is fairly obvious to anyone watching closely in the last week that the South Asian communities are mainly responsible for the growth in cases - I have been watching the attached tracker from the Government (positive tests at what looks like ward level) and the correlation is that most of these areas have large south asian communities (the Burnley area most affected is Daneshouse, there are similar themes in Halifax, Blackburn, Bradford, Oldham, Rochdale, Sheffield and Birmingham on the chart).

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
There was no more than 12 per day at the height during April.
Many asymptomatic cases will have gone undiagnosed and even some mild ones. This is a serious uptick, but only a minor inconvenience if handled fast.

Covid+ patients at Royal Blackburn is single figures.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:11 pmIs that because they are sent to Blackburn and Burnley is only used when Blackburn becomes over-subscribed so to speak?

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
Have they published the data that links the number of new cases detected to the number of tests taken?
I was listening to the Head of "Health" for Blackburn the other day. He pointed out that though the rate of infection had risen three-fold, the rate of testing had risen five-fold.
In the past week everyone in Pendle etc has been encouraged to get tested, so a rise in detected cases is inevitable since most people are either asymptomatic or have such minor symptoms that they don't recognise them.

Re: Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?
As far as I’m aware there is entire truth in it, I tend to be very careful with my observations on this topic - Trafford is an anomaly, I agree that is different, hence why I was using words like “mainly”. I wish the media would call it as it is though instead of being politically correct, because it is the lives of people in those communities who are mostly at risk and they need to be made aware that there could be a large number of asymptomatic people in their social gatherings.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:21 pmSounds like there may be some truth in that but i also saw an interesting report on the news about a significant growth in affluent Trafford areas where the spike came from well to do middle class households mixing, particularly younger people.
