Domestic cricket season commences today.

Post by tiger76 » Sat Aug 01, 2020 2:31 pm

Lancs top order failing as ever currently 108-4 after winning the toss and batting, for some reason they are playing Leicestershire at New Road, i can only assume it's to do with covid regulations.

Hameed's past 50 on his Nottinghamshire debut and he's still going, fine start for him in his new surroundings. And it's great from an England viewpoint, however he'll struggle to regain his international place the way the openers are currently performing.

Hameed is a class act. He just needed a different challenge. He’ll be one a fantastic batsman.

Hameed gone for 68, and Notts have undergone an England type collapse 147-2 becomes 160-6.

Lancs trying to rebuild 136-4 Vilas & Croft going nicely.

Can’t play at Old Trafford due to preparations for the Test match.

Looks like Lancashire carrying on from last season relying on Vilas to rescue the batting again.

Yep some things never change 171-4 at tea, good partnership this and badly needed by Lancs, should be able to get to 300 from here, and with the new look bowling attack who knows how they'll perform, they'll be a lot pf pressure on Tom Bailey to lead from the front, i have TBH i don't know any of the others, so i can only assume they're new signings.

200 up for Lancs, and still only 4 down, impressive recovery from 97-4.

Durham 99-8 against the Yorkie bars it pains me to say.

Bit of a comeback to 21 for 9.

Should end any unwanted low score records

House beat Ramsbottom by 22 runs. Good knocks from Franky and Charlie helped. Ramsbottom never looked like achieving the target despite Smit making an unbeaten 50.

Lancs 258-6 half century for the skip, now if only the top order could score runs.

265-6 at the close, it's not brilliant but it's a damn sight better than it could have been.

The jury is still out on Hameed, but it'll do wonders for his confidence to score runs on his Notts debut, of course he's flattered to deceive before at the start of a season, so we'll have to judge him over a much longer period, but i still think Lancashire made the right call in releasing him when they did, he'd been poor for a couple of seasons, and there was no obvious uplift to his game, so sadly he had to go.

I’m certain we made the right decision. He’s struggled in the main for three years now. We thought he was going to be an outstanding batsman but since that injury in India it just hasn’t happened for him. I hope he recaptures his form but I wonder whether he can.

Yes correct decision to release him, Lancs gave him many opportunities.
Not the first opening bat to fade away/dry up after a great start, Lathwell at Somerset went from England to nowt in 2 years and Andrew Kennedy at Lancs did something similar, young player of the year who failed to go on.

I always remember Andrew Kennedy, he was very much a one season wonder at Lancs.

I once saw him play for Colne at home against Burnley before he moved to Lancs. He was given out caught behind as Burnley bowled out Colne for 28 I think it was. He clearly was unhappy with the decision given his reaction before leaving the field. It turned out the bloke sat in front of me was a relative and Kennedy came round so this bloke said something like: "Did you not get a touch?" Kennedy said he didn't think he had at the time but he always cleaned his bat before he went out and there was a mark on it. He said, the first thing he would go and do at the interval was apologise to the umpire.

He looked an outstanding young batsman at league level and I don't think anyone was surprised when he went to the county, but he was found out very quickly and that one season was just about his only success at that level.

Lots of low scores around this weekend.

Are the batsman still furloughed or have we relied on pro's to score the runs for too long?

Leicestershire handed 5 run penalty after the bowler fielded a defensive shot and threw it at the batsman, hitting the right calf, claiming he was going for the run out despite the batsman being stood in the crease in front of the stumps.

Colne chased down the 80 odd they needed pretty comfortably in the end, only 4 wickets down. Bacup looked to have a really young bowler who showed a bit of promise though. Anyone know who he is?

Lancs in with a sniff but it'll be tough for them to force a win from here, time will be the problem assuming they don't get rolled over.

Another failure for Jennings single figures in both innings for him.
