England vs Ireland 2nd ODI (Southampton)

Post by tiger76 » Sat Aug 01, 2020 2:40 pm

Ireland batting first again, and again it's not going well for them, both openers gone to David Willey, he's on fire in this series.

As i hate to say this but Ireland are not in the same ball park as the English , look you have to see it as what it is just hope Ireland can somehow get towards 200 and set the English a target

James Vince bowling you don't see that often, and he's picked up a wicket, 39-3 this could be another early finish at this rate.

44-4 O'Brien gone cheaply, Ireland are going to struggle to post a score now. They just can't pick Rashid, that said they're not the first international team that have struggled against him, in white ball cricket he's a huge asset for England.

There's no shame in not being in the same ball park as a minor cricket nation.

Neither are the Aussies at the minute in white ball cricket.

Another for Rashid 91-6 just past halfway, the key thing for Ireland is they have to bat the 50 overs today, they made a cardinal sin in being bowled out with plenty of time remaining on Thursday, and that's something they can correct, it's a tough ask for them to compete with this England side, even if it is a slightly depleted England XI, they have incredible strength in depth in one day cricket these days, and there's a few that missed out here that can consider themselves unlucky. Plus obviously a few of the test boys will come back into the fold in time, Archer, Buttler, Stokes & Woakes to name just 4. So there's plenty of competition for places nowadays, and there's also the T20 WC next year to keep the England players on their toes.

163-7 wicket for Mahmood. Campher is the top scorer again, he's got a big future that kid. But i can't see England finding this total too difficult.

Ireland making a better fist of this innings, 185-7 and a 2nd fifty for Campher. They should pass 200 at least, and that's respectable if nothing else.

207-8 Campher just gone for a fine 68, he's ensured that Ireland at least have a total on the board.

212-9 by the Irish, that's an improvement on the first game by some way. Campher won't be batting 7 for long, he's a class act.

Bairstow with a 21 ball 50, i guess Johnny's back. 71-1 and we're only in the 8th over.

Banton gone for 15, another wicket for Campher, he's easily Ireland man of the series, and it's only his 2nd ODI, where's he been hiding.

England making a hash of what should have been a simple chase after Bairstow's barrage, 143-6 after only 20 overs, so the RR isn't a problem but the lack of wickets might be.

Morgan seems to either get out for nothing or gets a decent score, no inbetween. Mooen Ali, not sure about him.
These 2 should get us home, no rush, pick off the bad balls

Billings and Willey see England home to a 4 wicket win, but they made heavy weather of that chase, as they did in the 1st match.

As Darren Gough said about him.

He's the only person he knows who fell in love with himself at 17 and has been faithful ever since.
