It was also mentioned on the radio today that the nett spend at Bournemouth over the last few seasons puts them in the top 20 biggest spenders in World football

I've heard that somewhere before.randomclaret2 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 11:14 pmIt was also mentioned on the radio today that the nett spend at Bournemouth over the last few seasons puts them in the top 20 biggest spenders in World football

So good, I posted it twice

Burnley 2013-14: Wages £15.4m Promotion Bonus £6.1m Cost of squad £12.7mDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 3:33 pmId be interested to see the Bournemouth wage bill for 14/15 and how much their team cost in transfer fees compared to the wage bill and transfer costs of Burnley's title winning season in 15/16
Might be wrong but I would bet there wouldnt be too much difference between the two
Bournemouth 2014-15: Wages £30.4m including promotion bonus (not quantified) Cost of squad £23.0m
Burnley 2-15-16@ Wages £27.1m Promotion Bonus £11.3m Cost of squad £35.1m
For the respective first years in the PL@
Burnley 2014-15: Wages £29.4m Cost of squad £20.7m
Bournemouth 2015-16: Wages £59.6m Cost of squad £87.2m
Burnley 2016-17: Wages £61.2m Cost of squad £74.8m
So basically you're right; Bournemouth's first (and only) championship promotion and survival in the PL was done on similar sort of funds to Burnley's second. Essentially, Dyche had to earn his funds by getting promotion the first time; Howe could skip that step because the funds were provided by the owner.
Re: Eddie gone
He spotted something in stanislas for the long term that never quite happened for Burnley. Dyche has made good signings over a long time Howe made lots of good signings for us albeit at a lower level over a much shorter time. Is it Howe with the eye for talent or has he kept the same scouting staff through the years. What is the key? I know Dyche wants more cash injection and rightly so but why have we stopped signing bargains to strengthen the squad numbers ? A few stand out league one and two talents sent out on loan in the championship to improve them . These jewels are out there and a few seasons of progressively building a stronger squad would have improved us. I'm sure we would have seen more fringe players trying to break into the 1st team and not had the embarrassing subs bench we had to field recently.
Dyche and Howes skill sets , Dyches aggressive barking with Howes meek pondering combined could be some sort of lost combination of manager and assistant in either order capable of world football domination.
If Dyche left (with myself of course no salmon today please I'm stuffed) would you have Howe back?

Re: Eddie gone
I think that they both recognised that Stanislas was good at going forward but not great at tracking back. That was enough for Eddie but not for Sean.
That would be like rubbing salt in the wound. Would rather have someone like Chris Hughton.

Didn’t SD offer Stanislas a contract?
I could be mistaken.

He did, however, Stanislas wanted regular football so he left.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:28 amDidn’t SD offer Stanislas a contract?

He made 93 league appearances for us in 3 seasons and he had made 112 league appearances for Bournemouth in 6 seasons.
Re: Eddie gone
You're right Swizzlestick he did get offered a new contract but he only took part in 27 league games in his last season with us and only played the full 90 a couple of times. I think he was a good player to have on the bench but he wanted to play more.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:28 amDidn’t SD offer Stanislas a contract?

Re: Eddie gone
I guess arguably Dyche's funds came from Coyle's promotion, and Coyle's promotion came as the funds were provided by the owners ...dsr wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:07 amBurnley 2013-14: Wages £15.4m Promotion Bonus £6.1m Cost of squad £12.7m

There seems to be a strange group (not aimed at DSR) who seem to think that any suggestion that Howe is a good manager is a suggestion that Dyche isn't a good manager. It is possible for both of them to be good managers.
Howe did spend a decent amount in the championship but we've all seen clubs who spent plenty of money and didn't get promoted, it's still a good achievement.
Re: Eddie gone
I think Coyle's promotion funds had all been spent. Some of them on good players, but a lot on bad wages. That was why Dyche had to sell Austin and sign only free transfers.
I agree about Howe, though. Just because Dyche achieved an almost impossible feat in his first promotion doesn't mean Howe didn't achieve a lot in his first.
Re: Eddie gone
I have it on good authority that Eddie in his first summer had to cut the wage bill by around £64k/week.
Re: Eddie gone
Agreed those funds had mainly been spent but without them we'd have been in a financial black hole and that wage bill in 2103-14 would probably have been down in the £5m - £7m band. A lot of people don't realise just where the club would have been if Coyle hadn't got us promoted.dsr wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 11:41 amI think Coyle's promotion funds had all been spent. Tindall being tipped to take over at Bournemouth which seems a bit surprising.

Re: Eddie gone
Quality manager. He’s shown time and time again he can go to a club and put together a run of half a dozen or so good results. Of course you need to get rid of him after about his tenth match if you want to avoid plummeting down the league, but that minor issue aside, quality manager.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 11:01 amSilva won't retire, he's a vastly superior manager to Dyche according to some....

Howe could not and cannot organise a defence .
He had ridiculous amounts of transfer monies and got some diamonds but wasted an absolute fortune

I noticed that the odds for next Burnley manager make him favourite, obviously there isn't a current vacancy but I'd be amazed if either party wanted that to happen.

I'm not at all sure he had as much money as he anticipated when he went in there...dont think there was loads there after the Coyle promotion.
Re: Eddie gone
This seems like a really odd appointment to me. Surely he bought into Eddie's approach 100% and won't be changing much in the way they play. or operate as a club. I honestly thought he'd have gone with Eddie as his assistant.

Interesting appointment. I have to say I was very surprised when they said they were considering him. I was amazed he didn’t walk with Howe.frankinwales wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 2:12 pmWow Tindall.............not sure what the owner expects from that move......

Re: Eddie gone
Strange appointment for me, but clearly they are looking for continuity, i'll be surprised if he still in post at Xmas, he's facing a tough task given the likely mass exodus, and if Bournemouth aren't at least around the playoffs at the end of the year, then he'll be punted.

You'd have though of the Howe/Tindall partnership, good together, may be terrible apart. Eddie will get another job sooner or later!
Re: Eddie gone
Was Brian clough as good without peter taylor?
Re: Eddie gone
Tindall has never struck me as having much about him tbh, always comes across as a bit of a yes man. I predict he'll be a disaster as manager.

Eddie will appear in the England age group management with a view to follow Southgates model into the big England job.
That’s why Tindell hasn’t gone with him.

Re: Eddie gone
Clough always seemed lost without Taylor. They didn’t go to Leeds together and then Forest seemed to go into decline when Taylor left and they fell out.
I’d probably say the pair of them probably needed each other. Taylor was very much the tactician and also made the decisions on which players to sign.

Tindell is to Howe what Andrew Ridgley was to George Michael.

Or the ostrich to Bernie Clifton.
Re: Eddie gone
Or what Orville was to Keith Harris
Re: Eddie gone
He did like many managers, find some jewels and bought some dogs. Defensively he and Jase were on a par with Coyle. However, like BFC under Coyle he got Bournemouth playing some attractive football. Sadly though attractive football from a small club in the Premier League will ultimately end in relegation.
Re: Eddie gone
Looks like it was Eddie's decision according to JT:
"When Ed told me of his decision (to leave the club), to be honest, I was a little bit surprised by it," Tindall added. "We had spoken in the week building up to that.
"He didn't want to compromise me in any way, letting me know his final decision once he had made it and spoken to his family. I was a little bit surprised that Saturday."
