ARTICLE: Watney goes flat for Burnley
Back to 1972, and the Watney Cup semi-final where only the attendance was impressive.

The Bristol Rovers game was dreadful and with TV coverage too.

I'm trying to remember whether I went to the semi-final. I think I did.

It's slowly coming back to me. I seem to remember I was full of optimism before the game. And after I didn't for a minute think we'd win the title.

I went to Lincoln and stood behind the goal at the covered end. I can't remember the Bristol game but I would've been there.

Me too...though I was only 13. I remember it being a pretty warm day and after the game the locals got a bit lairy.bob-the-scutter wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 11:16 amI remember more the Lincoln game when we were in every pub in the city.
Re: ARTICLE: Watney goes flat for Burnley
At Lincoln there was a pre-kick off pitch invasion by the Burnley fans similar to the one at Oldham in the FA Cup in 1974.
From one goal to the other to "take" the Lincoln end.
I seem to recall that happening now and again in the 70's.

While in the pub I went to the toilets for a slash and found they'd been converted to what looked like a waterlogged plumbers spare parts bin.
