ASTON VILLA

Post by warksclaret » Sun Aug 02, 2020 3:41 pm

Local reports down here are saying that Dean Smith has been given a further £100m to buy 4 players.Last year they spent £130m on 12 players with 12 existing players at the time out of contract. Also being said they want to retain Reina for a further 12 months. Not sure how that leaves Tom Heaton-but I guess he is some way from being fully fit

How can they not breach FPP

Well for a start i guess they'll be looking to recoup around £70-80m for Grealish, and if they do that then his fee will cover most of their spending.

I'm not certain but isn't FFP not applied as strictly in your first season up. Explains why both Fulham & Villa invested heavily in their first campaigns back in the big league.

So does this mean Dean Smith is staying in post then?

It shows they think short term. Would not surprise me if Dean Smith was given 6-8 games in the new season to show what he can do.It will be very hard keeping a squad of their size motivated

Villa were decent after lockdown, a good striker is what they lack more than anything

Villa signed a new Sporting Director this week after binning the last one - I have been saying for months that Villa would spend big again if they stayed up (and that it would be bad for us) - the add-on's for last seasons spend gave a total in excess of £150m - they will budget for Similar if Grealish does leave, and I fully expect them to go big for Brooks/Dwight in that scenario as well as stiffening the spine - They would love a Tarks/Mings partnership for instance

Not sure spending lots actually equals better survival chances. It is all about cohesion at the lower end of the Prem. even when Utd tried to spend their way back it showed it really isn’t that easy.

The problem for players like Brooks and McNeil is that to get the best out of the them you need supporting players who are up to the task. We've got Charlie Taylor who is perfect in that respect.

Unfortunately for Villa they don't don't have any players, Grealish aside, who are technically any better than what we've got.

You can buy good players, you can't buy a team. The more players they buy, the more likely that they will find themselves struggling to gel in the first 6-10 games. It would cause internal combustion, more than likely lead to Dean Smith getting the elbow, which would further undermine the team.
It's only a scenario, but one which has happened far too often, yet these foreign owners just never learn. Those on here who panic at the thought of Villa outspending us, don't seem to have learnt anything either.

Spot on they spent bucket-loads last summer, and they stayed up by a point, and even that point was fortunate, and they were 19 points adrift of our total, now they could improve next season, but given the strong likelihood of their best player leaving the building, and the swift turnaround, i wouldn't bank on it. And as you rightly suggest if they're anywhere near the bottom 3 after the first few games, Dean Smith will likely get potted, and another man will have to go in and work with Smith's signings, you'd have thought clubs would have learnt from the Watford debacle, but seemingly not.

Just imagine how the Bournemouth fans feel, Villa got really lucky with a few VAR decisions in the final reckoning, and they also lucked out on who their opponents were in the last 4 games, Palace, Everton, Arsenal and West Ham, neither of whom had much to play for apart from Arsenal, and they were focused on the cup final, rightly as it turns out. For the outlay last summer you'd expect more than 35 points and 17th place, and that's why the pressure is ramping up on DS and Villa to get off to a decent start next season, if they don't the knives will be sharpening.

I don’t think we’ll know if Grealish is overrated until he moves to bigger club. I used to think Mahrez was overrated, until he moved to city and proved his worth

Mahrez was sensational for Leicester when they won the Premier league, would never class him as overrated

Villa spent a lot of money in an attempt to stay up and in doing so will earn a lot more money than they spent. We didnt risk spending a lot of money and we got relegated and had to rely on getting back up the next season.

Villa might have taken a much bigger risk and we may not have had a choice to do it any other way than the way we did but Villa's first season after promotion has been more of a success than our first season was

You forget to include more dives than Tom Daley, and his constant whining at the officials. He looks good in a rank rotten Villa team, but whether he can make the step up to a top 6 side i have my doubts.

They did but it didn't cost them any points in the grand scheme. whereas that fluky point they gained against Sheff Utd made all the difference in the final shake up, plus the Palace goal that was wrongly disallowed, had a huge bearing on their survival.

Overrated? I guess it depends. He's not good enough for a club like Liverpool, but he's better than the pile of shite that is Aston Villa. He's good enough for a top 10 team like Burnley, but not top 4 side.

"Alli wore a red cap and black trunks, Maddison was in red shorts and Grealish donned a hat and white pants

Because strange results can happen in the PL, Norwich beat City and Leicester this season, but it didn't do them any good in the final analysis.

In our 2 PL relegation seasons we beat Man Utd in 2009, and Man City in 2015, didn't keep us up though, one swallow doesn't make a summer, and one result doesn't make a season.

It was disallowed for offside...and he was..by an inch or so. So technically it was the correct call even if it is ridiculous because of VAR.

CP will know more but think he said they’re owned by some rich guys, so not their own money presumably. Even so, I can’t see them spending that much money again unless they sell Grealish (which in my opinion would help them - too much goes through him at the moment and I’m not sure he likes the graft you have to put in the Prem).

Post lock down, signs that Villa were getting stronger by the game. They do have some decent players and a few to come back from injury. Gordon Luiz was a brilliant buy for £16m from Man City.Has really impressed me in his last 10 or so games.. If there was one player we could take from them it would be him

Did Wright say something? Come on Tim his handling of the cup yesterday was embarrassing,it looked at one point like David Luiz with the base was just going to frisbee it into the distance....he stood there with a puzzled look on his face thinking WTF is this?
It is Davida Louise you are talking about Steve ... not exactly the brightest button in the box m8

Reports that City have a buy back option on Luiz and are considering making the offer.

Why do people want to play in the richest league in the world and then complain when other clubs spend money?

And maybe one photo doesn’t make a person. It’s a sad world we live in where people are criticised for simply enjoying themselves. Some of you need to have a look at yourself.
In case it's escaped your notice we're in the midst of a global pandemic, and it's not just one photo Grealish has previous history of ignoring lockdown measures.

Why do some of us need to look at ourselves if we've been diligently obeying the instructions issued by the government however taxing that may be.

I'm well aware that we're in the midst of a global pandemic as I'm sure you know. I just find it pathetic that you, and others, are so desperate to jump on anybody who dares to try and get some enjoyment out of life. The division that people like you are causing has been one of the more depressing things about this past few months to me. I mean seriously, complaining about a few young footballers sitting a little too close to each other when on holiday. It truly is pathetic.

No, what is pathetic is poncy little footballers thinking that because they can afford to pay any fines they can do what they want irrespective of the rules whilst the rest of us (who actually pay their wages) have to adhere to rules because we understand the severity of the pandemic.

The hair

Bellendry at its finest
This really is the oddest description I've ever seen given of a footballer. I've never known a football fan to observe the size and tightness of a footballer's bum and the sexuality of his skip.
