Pope’s replacemt

Hi all, first time poster.

With the links of Pope to Chelsea getting stronger, do you think Peacock-Farrell would step up and become no 1, or do we need a new first choice, and if so, who?
Possibly Ramsdale? I really cannot think of anyone else.
Just wanted to see what suggestions people had.

Honest opinion, I think Peacock Farrell will be a good one, still need 1-2 more though if he goes

With Bardsley, Tarks, Mee and Taylor in front of me, I could play in goal for Burnley.

I think if anybody has an insight into lower league keepers who can make the step up then it is Mercer, the only worry I have is that 2 keepers (BPF and one other) who have relative PL inexperience is always a gamble, if they prove they are not up to it.

I wouldn't worry too much, Pope won't be going anywhere just yet.

This is the thing. It's about time we start to have a bit of confidence in our selection of keeper signings.

We've not done too bad recently.

If Burnley are prepared to sell Pope then it means they know we have another keeper to come in and do a brilliant job.

Billy was probably one of our better signings and we have to thank Brian Laws for that

Someone said if Dyche left, he'd take Mercer with him? Is it possible that wouldn't be the case and Mercer would prefer to stay?

i think we would only sell Pope if BPF is ready to step up, and he does play at international level so must be fairly decent already. We could do with £50m.

I'm sure he'd like to take him. I suppose it depends on contracts, but BM may not fit into a new manager's plans.

Foster is a great shout, everytime I watched Watford this season he was saving them from severe beatings, having watched Peacock perform for Leeds in the Netflix documentary about Leeds failed push for promotion when he was replaced in goal by some foreigner mid season I'm totally unconvinced about him stepping up to play Premier league football.
Foster for me all the way

There’s an extremely good chance that with the time he’s spent here since leaving Leeds, he has improved under Mercer no end.

Heaton and Pope did.

Whats great about Pope but not so for Burnley is that he had such a great post lockdown that many pundits are saying he is now England's No 1 choice. This has alerted a number of top clubs. On a positive his value has recently to such a high level, none of us can accurately predict his true value

However with goaies a run of poor form and you are either forgotten by the media or slated.A good example is Butland

Would be happy with Foster or Tim Krul as a stop gap.

Foster was one of the best goalkeepers in the PL last season

If a new manager didn't want to keep BM then they probably aren't the right manager for Burnley.

I'm pretty sure BM would improve any GK in the top flight with time.

I think the major worry I have with BPF is that I haven’t seen many positive reviews from Leeds fans, and as some are saying on this thread from what they have seen they aren’t impressed. Whereas I distinctly remember Charlton fans having only positive things to say about Pope.

To be honest, I’m hoping we don’t sell him at all. With Chelsea heavily linked to Havertz, who won’t be cheap, I’d hope him & Werner will be the end of their summer shopping. I also hope they won’t spend big money oN a keeper just a few seasons apart. If they do, we should demand at least the same as they paid for Kepa. We don’t need to sell and he’s better!!

If you think about the points a top, top keeper saves you, over one or two seasons he’s worth a lot more to us than £70m! I honestly think only Norwich of the relegated teams would have gone down if Pope played for them (because he can’t score goals).

Big loss if he goes.

You are probably (hopefully) right. But there is an inevitable period of insecurity for the coaching staff when there is a new manager coming in.
So SD says "come with us, you are guaranteed a job" it has an obvious affect.

Krul for me but another season of Nick, Dwight & Tarks would be my preference.
Not seen the Leeds docu mentioned above but BF-P had a couple of excellent games against Holland for NI.

I really rate Ramsdale but I’d go for Jack Butland. A very decent keeper who had his confidence shot during Stoke’s relegation from the Premier League, who nobody seems keen on any more. A few weeks with Billy Mercer and he’d be right back at it again.

Butland's not a bad shout as it goes, he's only got a year on his contract, and if Stoke need to trim their wage bill he'll be one they'll be looking to possibly move on, and surely his confidence will be raised by a PL club coming in for him, plus he's only 27 which for a keeper is a spring chicken.

Agree - with the added benefit of several ex Stoke players at the club and recently left the club should be able to provide the all important character references. Just saying 'cos a few questionable characters at Stoke during their relegation, so it is said.

Pope himself has that the defense in front of him
has helped him in getting 15 clean sheets but his performances
as of late especially against Liverpool have shot him up the table - so to speak.
Consequently he's being talked about and linked with Chelsea.

It just shows how much money some of the top teams have but
somehow can't see them ditching a goalkeeper they spent 70m+ on
for another who would probably cost them 50m.

If per chance we do sell him to Chelsea for that amount then we should be
in a strong position to bring another in (with premier experience) to challenge
BFP for the number one slot.
And leave us with the opportunity and extra cash to bring in one or two others.

I wonder what Garlick would say to that?

I'm sure the same was said of Joe Hart. Just because we might be able to fix him doesn't mean we should try. Foster is a good shout imo.
