Here's 92 places registered within 5 miles of Burnley centre.

Let's get these local businesses back on their feet.
Let Boris pay for half.

Where was it and how easy to sort the offer if you don't mind me asking?Burnley1989 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 2:18 pmJust been out for lunch myself, I’d actually forgotten about this so was a nice surprise

There is nothing to sort, you bill is reduced by half up to £10 per person no alcohol included. If you had something to eat and a soft drink and it was £20 they reduce it by £10 anything less than £20 and it reduces accordingly.

Just taken advantage at a pub in Wimborne as we start our journey home from holiday. Brilliant value!
Re: Who's eating out to help out?
This is where there are conflicting messages.
On one hand the Government is encouraging you to eat out.
On the other they are trying to tackle obesity.
They can't go hand in hand.

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
it's a pointless exercise in my opinion and an unnecessary use of public funds. I'd rather seen higher taxes on unhealthy supermarket ready meals and the like with campaigns to eat better quality fresh food including making it cheaper, instead of this type of blatant bribery.

Of course they can. Eat somewhere that offers healthy options and choose one of them. The government is encouraging eating out, not eating more.

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
Some dubious places on there. Is it basically subsidising a canteen at BooHoo?
Re: Who's eating out to help out?
I guess some will always criticise whatever any government do.
In my view this initiative is a really good idea and it will definitely provide a boost to a very hard hit sector.
Obesity is a completely different issue and it’s good that this has been recognised as a major problem and something needs to be done.
As others have said you don’t need to eat junk food using the eating out scheme...and most people won’t.
I’m not sure some people realise how many businesses are on the brink.

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
I believe the Gov have introduced numerous initiatives (including this) in regard to coming out of the worst of it and looking to get the economy up and running quicker than if left to it's own devices through the general population and they should be applauded for it.
Certainly nothing like this in the USA, also all though I do not know I have not seen similar schemes mentioned regarding the EU for example.
The other interesting measure which was Sweden seems to rarely get a mention these days as a point of reference, when applied to the Virus versus economy debate.

I just ate at a local village pub, I’d suggest booking though, I was told they were booked up for the rest of the day.
My daughter and myself ate for £12

Love that Porkys van, in the layby on the bypass is included.

Pass it at least once a week, usually always a couple of people there or vehicles in the lay by.
Apparently meant to be decent too.
Suppose it depends what time you pass, it's always between 9.30-11:00 when I drive past.

Some places already complaining that it won't help at all as people will now go out eating Monday to Wednesday and avoid the alcoholic beverages instead of Friday to Sunday and have a few pints with meals so they could end up worse off.

People only have the same amount of money to spend on things.
P.S there's a far bigger mark up on soft drinks than alcohol so tell them to stop whinging.

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
Government HAS to do something wrong. People can't possibly take personal responsibility for what they eat.
Think we'll find restauranteurs and the general public will love this scheme...

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
A comparison of Denmark, which had a firm lockdown, with Sweden,
with its notoriously light-touch approach. Aggregate spending dropped 29 per cent in Denmark and 25 per cent in Sweden.
These stats are a week old, but Sweden are/were in the top 5 regarding Corona deaths as a proportion of the population.
1) Belgium (86/100,000)
2) UK (68/100,000)
3) Spain (61/100,000)
4) Italy (58/100,000)
5) Sweden (55/100,000)

You do realise there are healthy options to eat when you dine out? And even if someone decided to eat crap everyday it only lasts 3 days a week for a month.claret2018 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 4:18 pmFantastic timing, in the same week we go into harsher lockdown restrictions as well as the governments drive against obesity

I'm actually in full support of local establishments - what I object to is multinationals who will use this for profitClaretCraig wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 4:29 pmIt's to help out local businesses how is that a pointless exercise? I'm not talking about mcd but local eateries.

Hi Zlatan, why, what is wrong with a business making a profit? If they don't make a profit they will shutdown, that business will no longer exist and their employees will lose their jobs. Nothing good comes from not making a profit.
Re: Who's eating out to help out?
Nothing wrong with a business making profit, everything wrong with multinationals exploiting government generosity for ADDITIONAL profit.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 5:03 pmHi Zlatan, why, what is wrong with a business making a profit? Re: Who's eating out to help out?
I've booked 3 nights in hotel in Lakes later this month. Booked it last year when no one had heard of covid-19. The only thing is I'm booked for Sat/Sun/Mon. Am I missing out on my £10/meal off at least twice a day, dinner and breakfast?

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
Couple of points. Firstly, the multinationals have been impacted on as much as anyone else and could potentially put more people out of work. Secondly, a lot of the chain restaurants are franchises so owned by much smaller companies.

Nothings ever gonna be perfect but this sounds like a good initiative to me. Will be going to the pub for my lunch on Wednesday and might even splash out for a pudding seen as it will all be half price.
If it helps my local and other surrounding businesses get through this current situation a little easier than im all for it.

It's for participating café/restaurants, not those who are on HB tariffs while staying in a hotel.

Re: Who's eating out to help out?
I see the same people defending this government hand out are similar to those who ridiculed the labour magic money tree during the election - who’s paying for it...?
Re: Who's eating out to help out?
The government is trying to stimulate the economy and personally I think that should be applauded. A lot of other countries have given nothing like this and didn’t have a furlough scheme either. We have been looked after quite well financially compared to others such as Spain, Italy and the US of A.

Looking forward to squeezing the maximum out of the deal with 4 of us.. Will carefully craft the meals allowed to be as close to £10 as possible
