Pope was a bit unlucky with that though because the ball reared up and wasn't really short. You always need a bit of luck when that happens and Pope didn't have any.
Buttler is on a hiding to nothing and is probably playing the right game by playing as he does in the shorter game. With the ball moving around and bouncing he is just as well playing his natural game instead of just occupying the crease and possiby getting a 'freak' ball.

Past halfway now but 5 wickets down, if this pair could get us to within 70-80 then who knows Pakistan might start getting twitchy. They're taking the attacking approach which is the correct tactic.

Amazing how much better we look going positive.

50 partnership off just 49 deliveries and the field goes everywhere. The bowlers get hit off their line.

Great to see.

167-5 at tea, this Buttler/Woakes rally has given England a chance, only 110 needed now, if they can keep going like this for another 30-40 minutes after tea, then the runs will be coming, Pakistan will be hoping for a couple of quick wickets to regain control, but this match keeps ebbing and flowing. Even a tie can't be ruled out, although it's still unlikely.

If Buttler wins the game from here there's no way he'll be dropped, despite his struggles with the gloves.

Tea break comes at an ideal time for Pakistan. This could end the momentum that Buttler and Woakes have built up and see a quick end to the game.

It's getting interesting - get below 70 needed and the pressure is well and truly on the Pakistanis.

83 to win now. These two going well.

Whatever happens here we will have too much for them in the next two test matches.

You think so i'd say there's little to choose between the sides in English conditions, i wouldn't like to call this match let alone the series.

We have played this game at about 60% capacity. Much room for improvement.

There's only Babar Azam that would get in the England team as a certainty.
The leg spinner might as we haven't a decent one but he's very overhyped like all leg spinners get.

Abbas has bowled well but we have dozens of line and length bowlers at 80mph in county cricket. And we would never pick Graham Onions for instance.

I've been one of Buttler's biggest critics, however if he sees England over the line here, he'll have really shown his character and skill.

Woakes has been brilliant also, but they need to ensure it's not a glorious failure and finish the job.

England inching towards a huge win, i couldn't envisage this when Pope was out, but this pair have been outstanding. The odd half chance for Pakistan, but you need to ride your luck at times.

Great match, England on top now but still couldn’t rule out a collapse

I blame the Beeb text feed, honestly don't know why we pay the licence fee :)

Cracking game of cricket, that's why test cricket is still the best form of the game, because you're never quite sure how it'll pan out.

Once again Stokes turned the game England's way with the ball, his spell totally transformed the game, and gave England the belief that victory was possible.

Brilliant innings from Buttler & Woakes, England always look a better team when they attack the bowling, and that's their natural game, also at 117-5 they didn't have anything to lose.

That will be a devastating defeat for Pakistan they controlled the match for long periods, but they couldn't bat England out of the game in the 2nd innings, and that's what has cost them.
