Odds for relegation
Before each season, I like to have a (non-favourite) bet on a team to get relegated from EPL and one to be promoted to. I went for Bournemouth (@6/1) this season and Swansea (about the same odds).
I've, therefore, been awaiting initial odds (post-play-off final) to get chalked up and that's now happened. I wont bet just yet but I note, for once, were not in the top 3 favourites for relegation (hope that's not a bad omen).
West Brom & Fulham at about evens; then Villa around 2/1.
Palace, Newcastle around 5/2 us a bit longer nearer 3/1-as are BHA
Leeds up nearer 4/1 as are WHU & Sheff U.
See how this develops with transfers dealings/speculation but I think I fancy a punt on BHA this time round. https://www.oddschecker.com/football/en ... relegation

Re: Odds for relegation
The only I'm puzzled by is why Brighton are considered less likely to go down than we are.

They have us close to relegation, regardless. They never seem to learn.

Re: Odds for relegation
They have already done some half decent business (Lallana should be an improvement for at least his first season and Veltman has a good pedigree from Dutch football) plus some of their signings from last year eg Maupay and Trossard looked to be improving as the season went on
Nobody really has any idea until the window closes

Re: Odds for relegation
You did well to pick Bournemouth at 6/1. Based on the odds you quote for this season, there are 10 clubs, at least, that are shorter than 6/1.LeadBelly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 6:02 pmBefore each season, I like to have a (non-favourite) bet on a team to get relegated from EPL and one to be promoted to. Where are Soton? I can imagine the "Top 6+++" are all longer, i.e. Lpool, Everton, City, ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Leicester and Wolves.
Re: Odds for relegation
Odds look about right to me.
They're saying that there's barely anything between the bottom ten clubs, which doesn't seem too controversial.

Re: Odds for relegation
I’m not much of a gambler, and have only placed two bets in the last 4 years, but both did ok. Last season I had £40 at 7/1 on us to finish in the top half of the table and for the 2015/16 season I had £40 on us to win the championship outright at 16/1. It’s not that I was certain we would, I just thought we had a much better chance than those odds suggested, thus making it worth a punt. My take on it is that, under Mr Dyche, we always do better than the bookies rate us, it’s just spotting the right bet. I’ve resisted betting on us in the cups.

We are always mispriced by the bookies. The value you’d have got from backing Burnley the last few years in both match betting and ante post is incredible. Again testament to the job Dyche and his players have done.

Everton.
Lump it on them. It's their year. Going down.

Re: Odds for relegation
Prices offered by bookmakers are often far bigger once a few games have been played. If a side starts off failing to win any of their opening 3 fixtures then the price offered for promotion or relegation can alter dramatically.
Most successful bet I have ever had on Burnley was £50 EW at 50/1 with Coral against Burnley winning the Championship the day after we signed Andre Gray. Most other bookies had us priced up between 25/1 and 33/1.

Re: Odds for relegation
We may well do so, the pattern in our last 4 seasons has been an average season followed by a good season, we've finished 16th, 7th, 15th and 10th, but it's worth noting in the last 2 campaigns we've been around the relegation scrap at the turn of the year, before we've hit a good run of form.Taffy on the wing wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 10:50 pmI have a feeling we'll struggle this season..........just my gut feeling.
In reality there's very little to choose between the 10-12 teams outwith the big boys, both West Brom and Watford have been relegated in the past 2 seasons following top half finishes, so we certainly can't rest on our laurels.
A lot depends on what happens regarding Sean and what activity we do in the market, what generally keeps us secure is our record against the lower half sides, and if we can maintain our impressive trait of picking up points in those games we should be fine, but we need to hit the ground running, and get points on the board early.

Re: Odds for relegation
Need to keep Sean, keep our players, then add some quality (in that order) & we’ll be fine. Otherwise it’s anyone’s guess.
Would be monumentally annoying to blow such a solid foundation by not going all out to do all of the above though.

Leeds more likely to stop up than us?LeadBelly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 06, 2020 6:02 pmBefore each season, I like to have a (non-favourite) bet on a team to get relegated from EPL and one to be promoted to. I went for Bournemouth (@6/1) this season and Swansea (about the same odds).
