Re: ARTICLE: Another ex-Claret joins Bolton
Remember when we had him and Jay at the same time.... Delfouneso was mainly ineffective, Jay was outstanding...... Delfouneso kept getting picked for England U21's, Jay couldn't get in. Anybody who watched them would surely not be shocked how their careers worked out.

For a while I was prepared to give Delfouneso the chance. He made some good runs without the pass forthcoming. But over a long enough period bad luck becomes bad form...
Pretty clear though that he's absolutely pants. League 2 probably his level.

57 goals in 366 appearances since 2008/9 season.
Calling him a striker is stretching it a bit I think.

And that was over nine years ago. Today, Jay is a Premier League footballer while Delfouneso has just joined a League Two club. Nothing much changed in comparing them. I thought we were getting a player of some potential when he signed. It wasn’t the case at all.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 07, 2020 5:24 pmRemember when we had him and Jay at the same time.... Was it Stuart Pearce who kept overlooking Jay for England u21s?

Are we really surprised?GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 8:34 amWasn't it Pearce who overlooked Jay for the Olympic team and picked Sordell instead.
This was the man that, when needing a goal to qualify for Europe, put David James as a centre forward whilst he Jon Macken sat on the bench

The thing is it’s not just talent. Must have had some talent to get to where he did. And even where he is now. But there’s a lot more to it than that. Attitude. Hard work. Good luck. Among others.

I can only speak for what I saw at the time, but for me, he’s the shittest player to wear a Burnley shirt this century, excluding the those obscure signings who only made 1 or 2 appearances for us.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 9:11 amThe thing is it’s not just talent. Goes to show what I know about football though, he was the one at the time playing in the Premier League for Aston Villa, he was the no.1 Striker for the U21s, he was the one being paid by Burnley FC as well and since gone on to play over 300 league games at a string of different clubs. He must have something about him.
Since leaving Villa, the clubs he tends to sign for are (were) skint or have turmoil at board level - Bury, Blackpool, Blackburn, Coventry and most recently Bolton.

He has somehow chipped out a career of some sorts and spent 10 years picking up pro wages.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 9:40 amI can only speak for what I saw at the time, but for me, he’s the shittest player to wear a Burnley shirt this century, excluding the those obscure signings who only made 1 or 2 appearances for us.
A few others that spring to mind include Neil Wood, Duane Courtney, Leon Cort, Richard Eckersley, Zavon Hines and Josh McQoid.

Some quality there.
Cotterill once told me that Courtney was the only player he ever signed with watching him play himself. Window was closing, we needed a defender, he was just about to sign for Wolves and Cotterill had him recommended.

Re: ARTICLE: Another ex-Claret joins Bolton
Apparently his role model as a kid was Paul Stewart.
Re: ARTICLE: Another ex-Claret joins Bolton
Think he made his home debut against Millwall for us. Remember going on t'Turf with high expectations of this England U21 striker. He was bloody awful. Lost 0-3. I give him the benefit of the doubt, being his home debut, pressure and all that. He only got worse.
