Re: Funniest thing you have seen at a football match
I went to the Eddie Hopkinson testimonial game at Burnden v a European X1, featuring none other than Eusebio in 1971.
Well, of course we were desperate to get the bloke's autograph and, as luck would have it, the great man was right in front of us when the final whistle blew.
It was like going over the top in the trenches, every man for himself. Trouble is, my mate tripped going over the wall, somehow got stuck and just hung there, upside down, with his forehead about an inch above the cinder track.
He was still there after I got back, having failed in the mission to get the prized signature - Eusebio having been mobbed by just about everybody in our end. Cheered me up no end though to see him still dangling there, - my mate not Eusebio - ignored by everybody for what must have been at least a couple of minutes.

Yeah definitely happened I was only young at the time as well but it was Bristol rivers away on a Tuesday night, pretty sure we won 1-0. Physios name was Andy something I think and pretty sure he went to Everton. Pretty sure it was a pasty as well, caught it with a cracking catch after someone shouted his name and chucked it to him.Danieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Sat Aug 08, 2020 10:46 pmI seem to remember our physio, who was quite large, getting abuse one game for his size.
Half way though was required on the pitch, ran on dealt with the injury and then turned to the away fans and proceeded to take a bite out of a pie?!
Am I imagining this? I was only a small kid...

The Blackburn fan who accidentally celebrates Arfield's goal - watch the gangway exit when it goes in. Hope the link works.

Burnley played Huddersfield in the F.A. Cup and lost 1-0 at Turf Moor in 1970 I think. I was there. The wind was so strong that when Peter Mellor took a goal kick it went up in the air and boomeranged back to him and he tipped it over the bar for a corner.
If he had not touched the ball and it had gone in, I don't think it would have counted, whereas if his touch had pushed the ball into the net, then it would have done.
I have never seen such a thing in a match, since.

Scarborough v Burnley.
With Burnley losing and a certain one of our players yet again missing a couple of guilt edge chances some Burnley fans managed to scale the ladder steps to where the commentary position sat at one corner of the ground. They managed to gain entrance and grapple the live mic from the announcer before shouting " will Brendan O'connell please F@cK off. Some scuffling the ensued as the invaders were wrestled to the ground (all on the still live mic for all the ground to hear)

My boss was friends with Brendan and he popped around to our work with his girlfriend around September 1990. I think he'd just been loaned out to Huddersfield or sold to Barnsley. They were talking about that as they toured the factory.THEWELLERNUT70 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 10:15 amScarborough v Burnley.

Which although not connected to a football match was bloody hilarious. Brendan's girlfriend was a stunner and Richard, our resident nutter and Clarets fan. Followed them into the shrink wrap department. He appeared a few seconds later, whipped his todger out and waving it around in front of the see through plastic protectors. Shouted 'Phwooooar Brendan, bet you couldn't even score with her with yours, let me have a go'. I guess you had to be there but all the Clarets employees were creased over with laughter.

Post-match reaction to Preston losing
Going to Boro and discovering that the goalkeeper making his full debut was Stuart Ripley's son. He received dog's abuse throughout the game, had a shocker and never played for them again.

I discovered that information from a Boro fanzine fella... I promptly texted Darren Bentley, suggesting he pass on a "shoot on sight" policy idea to then boss Eddie Howe.
I'm not saying the message got passed on, but it's the day Trippier shot from long range and the keeper made a real mess of it...

Not sure what team, but they hadn't scored for like a dozen games, so fans turned up with arrows pointing to the net to help the players

Re: Funniest thing you have seen at a football match
Does anyone remember Stoke away from a few years back. A roid raged Stoke fan made a run at the away end and it took about 6 security personnel to contain him. Ended up getting carried out horizontally as I recall.
