2020 PGA golf tournament.

Post by exilecanada » Sat Aug 08, 2020 11:00 pm

Thanks to COVID it's the first major of the season, played at a public course near San Francisco. Converted from par 72 to par 70 for tournament play. Fairways narrowed, penal rough, looks like a pretty good test, a couple of drive-able par 4's, long par 4's. Tommy Fleetwood is in with a shout, among the leaders after 2 rounds. Good luck Tommy, to hear his acceptance speak in a broad Lancashire accent..............priceless. :D

The course seems to be getting tougher. It’s an exciting tournament. Hoping for a Jason Day win. Lots of scrambling needed. I’m going for -9 to win.

Squeeze me? We support Brits at the golf. Sometimes Europeans, well, mainly Spaniards, especially when they are playing at Lytham. We might have cheered an American once [insert own reason, varying from admiration of Tiger, or preference for Jack]. We quite like Ernie and Vijay. We might even admire Adam Scott and find Wayne Riley mildly amusing but we do not generally support Aussies at golf. Explain yourself!

Yes indeed, fun stuff! PGA have done a brilliant job setting up the shortish (72,00 yds !!) to protect against 400 yard drives. Hitting fairways and greens is the order of the day. :)

Fleetwood, Rose, Casey all in with a shout - let's do this!

If not, then gotta love Koepka. Tells it like it is, doesn't give a $hit, and a damn good player. Paired with DeShambles tomorrow I think - that should be awesome given their history. Hope he pounds that objectionable excuse for a human being into the dirt.

P.S. In case you didn't know, I am not a DeShambles fan.

That leaderboard is packed with talent, and dominated by US and English names, Johnson & Koepka must be favourites, but i wouldn't rule out any of the English boys, strange things can happen in the final round of majors as history shows. It should be a thrilling back 9 if the pack remains as condensed, there's every chance of a play-off, and that could well involve several players at this rate.

If Haotong Li goes on to win this, Donnie will be big time pi**ed off  He'll probably call it fake news and demand a recount :D

Jason Day is one of the good guys. Of course I’d like any Brit to win but I fancied day.

Unfortunately, Lytham will no longer be an Open venue, probably a finsl qualifying course.
Els is a player hated by Greenkeepers, because of his tantrums on camera and Vijay Singh was an unpopular player with other pro's which I don't think bothered him.
I've backed Daniel Berger E/W @ 50's, but I'd love Tommy Fleetwood to get his first major.

Fortunately not true Huncoat. They’re negotiating a 3 Open’s deal with the R&A. There is a lack of space but there is more they can take with the nearby high school.

Wonder if there's any chance of us seeing Fleetwood playing a shot tonight?

Casey a shot off the lead, can he maintain his challenge? Fleetwood falling away, but Rose still in the hunt.

That is the reason "lack of space". The greenstaff were told last year that they wouldn't be getting it again, I hope that's changed.

Thing is, they've always used the high school field for parking. As much as I would like Lytham to be retained on the circuit, there aint enough room to take from the school permanently without it really hurting.

Bryson looks hard to beat. Not one for the purists, and I know he's been a knob with rules officials recently, but I admire the fact that he's seen it differently. Thinks he can overpower the course through sheer brut strength, with enough touch and imagination around the greens. Sorry Lord Bob but I at least waited until he dropped his first shot before posting.

The Irish tart on BBC 5 is so bad.
Clueless.
Annoying......

... I suppose it's another BBC box ticking appointment.

... Might as well get Lenny Henry to join in.
