Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Mané cost Liverpool £34m. Is Dwight twice the player of Sadio Mané?
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I don't think you've grasped the concept of how this works. We don't need to sell, other club wants him. They offer £30 million. We say jog on. They come back and say 'Ok £35 million'. We say 'Jog on with bells on'.claret2018 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 7:57 pmMané cost Liverpool £34m. Is Dwight twice the player of Sadio Mané?
Eventually they up their offer to something we consider or move on.

Or we wait 4 yrs because Mané was 24 when he joined Liverpool.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
And Leicester want £80 million for Ben Chilwell.
If they get anywhere near that then anything less than £50 million for DM would seem underpriced.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Anyone know what his release clause is at the moment?

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
He hasn't got a release clause. Sean has Dwight kept in his cellar chained to the wall. Sean's wife has the key to his padlocks kept in a secure place, a place no man may touch without a ladies permission.

If we sold him for 50 million do you think we’d get that to spend on strengthening because I don’t. Dyche would probably get 20’tops and who would that get?
I say keep him at least another season. Dwight will benefit in the long run.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Anyone who thinks we can directly replace McNeill on the money we're prepared to put out is seriously deluded.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I think Dwight should and probably will stay.
But if you look at his stats for the year they're no better than
Westwoods apart from number of shots. Dwight has 33 shots I believe
whilst Westwood has 9. Otherwise they've both scored 2 goals and 6 assists each.
So on paper.... but Dwight is more creative and dangerous and still only 20
with a full season in the Premier League.
Can he be replaced ? Well, any player can.
Much depends on whether a bid comes in that we can't ignore and from whom?
And whether Dwight would wish to leave.
Following that, if it happens then how much of the fee received would Garlick
release?
I expect a bid of 30m minimum and probably nearer 40m would make us think.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Fee to me always depend in where a player is and who wants him.
For instance, if Leeds wanted Dwight, it’d cost them far more than it would Juventus.
Leicester are a team trying to get Top 4, so when a team like Man U wants their players it’s gonna cost them far more as they’re direct rivals.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Possible. The list I saw was in Euros and had him at €56m. Depends what exchange rate they were using.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
His dad has told him to stay at Burnley a bit longer and get more first team experience. Otherwise it's back to being a wannabe albeit at a bigger club on paper. He's already been there and done that.

I don’t think that any of our sought after players will leave this summer or what’s left of it, given the current situation. They’d be foolish to do so.

It makes you wonder how keen the club is to cash in on McNeil, given Garlick's previous comments about our finances.
I'd like to think we can get another season out of him, he's a real talent and a delight to watch, but I wouldn't be that surprised if the club are quietly open to offers.

This. Another season playing every game will aid his development in every way. I don’t think we can play down the effect a short pre-season is going to have.
Will be a benefit to us I think.

Just imagine the temptation to the Board to sell our 3 crown jewels for circa 150m and then sell the club for a fortune.

Present day, can Mike Duff play in the Premier League now?
The point I’m making is it’s all relative, and Duff in his prime right now would be worth a lot more than £35k, and Dwight as a 6 year old (or however old he was when we signed Duff) whilst probably promising would not command a fee

Dwight’s agent has been busy . Almost laughable.he’s a young talent who’s had an above average season . He may well develop into a very good player but he’s hardly set the prem alight , lovely change of pace but much of his allround game is naive .Hopefully get a cracking season from him before he leaves though .

My comment was tongue in cheek. I am not sure you can make comparisons (like the Mane) one due to the same reasons you state. Year on year the financial landscape changes too extremely.Zlatan wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 10:55 amWhen we signed Duff, how old was Dwight? Could Dwight play in the premier league at that age?

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Have to say, I agree with this. Nobody can argue that Dwight is setting the Prem alight. He's had a good season, no doubt, but not great. What you are buying in Dwight is potential as, at only 20, he could become an outstanding talent for many, many years to come.AlargeClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 11:21 amDwight’s agent has been busy . This is not specific, or a criticism of Dwight. All young talents are the same - inconsistent, with flashes of greatness.
If Juve, AC, LCFC or WWFC want to buy Dwight they will be paying for potential. And therein lies the issue because there is an element of risk. Given his potential, we won't sell cheaply, but will clubs be prepared to take the risk on the potential in this market? I doubt it really. I think they may make bids, but not high enough for us to accept. Everton sold Rooney too cheaply at £27m - good figure at the time, then went on to become United's highest scorer and looked a steal a decade on. We'd be daft to do the same.
For Dwight, if he goes, there's a risk he doesn't make it in to their first teams/gets dropped and his career goes down hill. All things told, I think another season at least is best for all parties, ideally with a new contract offer to tie him down to 2024 with a reasonable (£60m?) buy out clause.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Sadly if the right club come in for him the lad will want to leave. All we can do is play hard ball to get the maximum fee for him. Or a decent fee and a good player thrown in from the buying club.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
there's a really good club I know of:
Premier League
Top 10 team
Great manager and coaching staff
First team place virtually guaranteed
Fantastic facilities

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I am just reading 'Bumbles' autobiography and he describes very well the problems of a young player arriving in a new dressing room:
"Do not for one minute think that people who are in direct competition for places that everyone gets on. They do not and it means that, although you're trying to do your best for the betterment of both yourself and your employer, dressing rooms can be cruel.. You share some wonderful moments of achievement - after combining in a match-winning performance your partners can feel like your best mates - even though you have barely a thing in common - yet there is a flip side. Whenever you throw a collect of alpha males together, its about asserting control, and some of that comes through the undermining of others".
For me that hits the nail on the head and jealous team-mates have the power to make your on field game look bad (miss-placed passes etc.). A young Dwight will probably be aware of this and I'm sue that his dad will have certainly put him straight on this.
One of our manager's strengths is the control of the dressing room and training ground ( a player's character is very much a selection issue). He has made some mistakes, but swiftly and emphatically put them to rights and Dwight will have recently seen how Gibson was "corrected". He also could not have been unaware of the plight that Gareth Bale now finds himself in - money or no money.
So Dwight and his advisers need to plan his future carefully and even if the fee on offer is too big for our club to resist then the terms and conditions of his future employment need to be carefully thought through.
