I'd put my mortgage on a few more than just those listed interested in capturing his services.

If AC Milan or Juventus are interested and offer a fair price, there is no way we should ever stand in his way!

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
It's a tough gamble for the club and for Dwight.
Ideally he gets another full and excellent season under his belt making him an established Premiership player at a top half club then the sky is his limit.
Worst case scenario - he has a mediocre season in a relegated team and his value plummets and he gets cherry picked for not a lot.
What do you do if you are the club or Dwight?

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
At the age Dwight is at and with such a close turnaround between last season and this, I think the best advice, with Claret bias, would be to tell him to stay, at least for one more full season.
If he performs again as he has this season, he has an outside chance of England squad for Euros next summer and a good season and hopefully Euro tournament, will get him to better clubs then Wolves or Leicester, whether here or abroad and as such gives us a bigger transfer fee.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Brady is most certainly not good enough to play instead, so we'd still need to go out and find a quality winger.
If we waited until next summer, where he might be in the England setup, he could be worth even more than he is now, and also helps to keep us in the Premier League again - another £100+ million.
And gives us more time to find a replacement.

He's a rare talent. I'd be surprised if clubs weren't looking at him, tbh.
We need to wring the maximum out of whoever eventually gets him.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Hard to imagine how clubs would be able to afford McNeil given the state of finances at the moment. Even harder to imagine how we would replace such a player.

If we got £60 million, I'm not sure what we'd do with it before next season.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
It surely would take a hell of an offer. Cash + player/s (not fringe players either) and a 40% sell on fee. He's our only real creative outlet.
He's so important to us I'd be looking at a substantial fee plus proven Premier League players in 1-3 positions and I can't see any players at any of those clubs, who are regulars; prepared to switch. We simply cannot afford to sell him at this stage unless clubs good players are prepared to be part of the deal. Or unless the fee is so outrageously big (highly unlikely) that we can strengthen four positions with better players in 6 weeks.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Only 3 English players have been sold for over £50m - Maguire, Bale, Sterling. We aren't looking at that sort of money.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I would hope we'll hold on to next Summer, it's a big call for Garlick, hopefully Dwight won't let the speculation affect him.
Should we decide to sell, then you would hope we could get the likes of Demarai Gray as a makeweight in the deal if it's Leicester but i'd much prefer we keep his assists for next season to ourselves.

Good point.
Three British players, perhaps? I looked it up, admittedly on Wikipedia, and nearly all the over £50m men were foreign as in non-British.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Why not?
Maguire was overpriced, I think a lot of people would agree.
Whoever signs McNeil is also buying his potential and he's already shown that he's getting better the more he plays.
Bale was already a top class player when he went to Real and he's shown he can compete at that level when his manager wants him.
Sterling - was still a young lad when he left for City but he was like McNeil and improving all the time.
McNeil has a contract with Burnley until 2023, with the option of a further 12months.
We've got him nailed down, he's a first team starter and clearly enjoying himself here.
It will have to be a big offer to prise him away from Burnley.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Keeping Dyche is the top priority (not a fan of his pragmatism, especially in cups, but I accept he would take some replacing).
If Dyche thinks McNeill is crucial, we keep him at least one more year. Otherwise, cash in. What is best for McNeill (and I doubt Italy for such a youngster is it) isn’t overly relevant to us.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
If we don’t command a huge fee for him then there’s something sadly wrong. He’s an outstanding talent and will be sadly missed. Most players move on eventually but I for one will be sad to see Dwight leave whenever his time comes. What a player he is, dragged us through the relegation scrap with his direct runs and brilliant crosses, developed ever since into a wonderful player. 20 year old English player , played in every game of the season this season , even in our squad which isn’t the biggest is still a massive achievement! He is almost irreplaceable to us - so commanding £60m+ isn’t exactly an idiotic suggestion.
I’d love t see him go on and play with Ronaldo at Juventus and be whipping in crosses for him to nod home if he was going to leave, what an opportunity of true. Although Brendan may be an attractive option at Leicester with his crop of young guns.
Whatever happens good luck to Dwight!

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
If he stays and has another good season he will be knocking on the England door.
If he stays and has a stinker of a season he won’t get the chance to move to Juve or Milan any time soon.
If I was him I’d be off quick time

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
Dwight seems to be a level headed lad and I would think that going to Italy at his age would not be his best option. As others have stated the short turn around may be a good thing for all concerned - i think earlier this year his dad was also saying that staying at Burnley was the best thing for Dwight at the moment.

I think £35m would be acceptable in this climate. He cost us nowt and I think his loss would be less damaging than Pope or Tark’s

Not that we have any say in this, but if it's £60 million we should sell him. Our strength comes from the entire time, and not an individual. We could get some quality additional players with that money. Also, we shouldn't stand in the lads way if that is what he wants.

We need to stop this Happy Shopper mentality £35m no way .Dwight is a class act and we must stick out for North of £50m
We have been accused by some of under pricing our assets in the past
With Covid debts we need all the money we can get

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I agree. Dwight is good, our most creative player, but he’s not impacting games every week - scoring important goals, etc. The big issue is he’s our youngest player, will develop in to a player who does and arguably our most marketable asset on that basis, so we need to a) command a massive fee or we’ll end up looking very stupid in a few years, b) reinvest that now before clubs know we’ve got cash burning a hole in our pockets!claret2018 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:11 pmI think £35m would be acceptable in this climate. Re: Dwights a wanted man.
60m? Are you guys serious? That's is yet another undervaluation of one of our players. Would man utd get grealish for 60m? Would they get Maddison for similar? Not a chance. Add another 20m and then it should be considered.

Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I'm beginning to think that football is finished as an on-field competition.
Re: Dwights a wanted man.
He's by far and away our most valuable asset and our only real creative player of real quality and sell on value. We have form for finding gems in the keeping/defensive department. Selling Dwight for anything less than top dollar or not including a replacement player in the deal would be disastrous. When Klopp and Guardiola tell their players to triple up on him when hes got the ball, it tells you how good he is and McNeil still put their players on their arse! As said earlier. £60 million and a like for like player plus 40% sell on fee.claret2018 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:11 pmI think £35m would be acceptable in this climate. Re: Dwights a wanted man.
I don't see what he would bring to Wolves to be honest, they have superb wide players with absolute pace, power and skill. Leicester on the other hand would be able to utilise him well but I wouldn't think a swap for Demari Gray is on the cards.
