Great shame, but a real privilege to have seen him play for us. Absolute quality footballer, best I have seen play for us.

What I take from this. As a positive. Is, if/when we show interest in a player playing in the Belgian First Division A. He may be asked his opinion, which could sway in our favour.

Possibly the most gifted footballer I've seen in a Burnley Shirt ... twas a great pity his fitness has plagued his career ...
I echo the thoughts above about that goal v Utd....
Also what a Gent he is always complimentary about us and his time here.

He was the real spark in the team.Could do things and find a player that the other players had not even thought of. Sad I did not see him in more gamesn It proves there is a place for such a player as him, and as Robbie Blake proved

Great player. Amazing to see a central midfielder like that play for us. If he didn’t have his injury problems he would have gone right to the very top.

Re: Steven Defour
That's true but if he hadn't had his injury problems we'd probably never have been able to sign him in the first place, he'd more than likely have been at a bigger club than us. Although it was sadly short-lived we at least got to see his talents on show, and who'll ever forget his part in Andre's goal against Liverpool, his stunning FK at OT, and his delightful chip in the FA Cup game at home to Bristol City. It was right for both parties that he moved on when he did, but when fit and on top form he made us tick, and he was a major player in our 7th placed season, especially in the early months of that campaign, when we stormed up the PL table.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 6:14 pmGreat player. Class act was Steven. Bumped into him, almost literally, on the JMU concourse. The conversation was short but he did stop and chat when many others would have made an excuse and scurried off. Pity it didn’t work out for him here.

People talk about him on here as if he was Messi.
He had a few good games for us and scored some good goals but club legend and the best player to ever wear the shirt ? Lol don't make me laugh. Glad we got rid because he was robbing a living sat on the treatment table.

Hi Steve1956. I've given up with it to be honest. Occasionally I read crap like that and "bite" but I find it frightening to be honest.
It also seems some people would rather our ex-players rubbish the club. I don't get that one either I must admit.

Was it a two footed challenge you pulled out of or an elbow? Need to clarify in case you're to blame for his injuryRalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 7:19 pmClass act was Steven. Bumped into him, almost literally, on the JMU concourse.

Nick Pickering & Paul Stewart both get a lot of stick but neither were anywhere near fit when the played for us.

Re: Steven Defour
Absolute quality player. Agree if he hadn't had his injury issues he could have played at a bigger high profile club in Prem. Seem to remember Fergie liked him years ago and wanted him at OT. Early in his time with us, great goal he scored against Hull plucking the ball out of the air and turning to put 2 players out of the game in one fell swoop before taking ball on and cracking in at the near post. Brilliant.

The way he brought the ball down in that game v Hull, killed the ball and dropped two Hull players in his tracks in One spin, then he raced to the other end and blasted it home was just unbelievable. Nobody is calling him Messi but that touch was absolutely top drawer.

Re: Steven Defour
that wasn't the issue. Can't remember who we were playing at home but the ball went for a throw in front of the longside, someone shouted something along the lines of "put some ******* effort in Stewart" - he didn't like it, pulled at his shirt as to say "i don't give a toss about your club or shirt" and said something back, needless to say it didn't go down well with the longside. So for that reason and not his fitness I thought he was a complete ****ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 9:56 pmStewart wasn’t fit and shouldn’t have been playing. It is much easier to look back fondly and speak well of a club when they have paid you millions of pounds for doing not a lot.

When ever his name is mentioned on twitter one of the first replies you see is you moaning about the money spent on him, same on here. You make it sound like he wanted to be injured. Why not just enjoy what he brought to the side rather than focusing on the money spent of which you contributed virtually none of it.
