David Hamilton O.G
David Hamilton O.G
Can anyone remember that David Hamilton own goal? I am sure we were winning and he somehow inexplicably belted a shot past our keeper from outside the area. I was stood in the Bee Hole that day and we were all thinking it was a cracking goal, shame it was in the wrong end. Who was it against?

It was Crewe in an early season top of the table clash. I think he got sent off too, but I might be wrong on that.

Ahh thanks. Think you're right. Remember saying to my Dad 'He's having a day to forget'.hoskinsgoalatswansea wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 7:20 amIt was Crewe in an early season top of the table clash. I think he got sent off too, but I might be wrong on that.
Re: David Hamilton O.G
Reason I ask was I thinking about some of the weird goals this season then remembered his. The West Ham keeper punching the ball into his own net, Ings standing on the goal line and letting the ball go in, Godfrey's own goal.

On the topic of spectacular o.g.s at Turf Moor, (I don't know how many will remember it), but I recall a truly spectacular volley at the Bee Hole End by Forest player in a game that we won (5-1??) in about 1969.
As I recall, he volleyed it into the top corner from around the penalty spot. I think the players name was Chapman?
(And then of course there was Elder's infamous o.g.)

I though Hamilton tried to pass back to our keeper but ended up lobbing it into the net.
Re: David Hamilton O.G
Traore of Liverpool in the cup was a pretty good/funny own goal too.
Could try that 100 times and not do it again.
Worthy of winning any game

Yep. As own goals go. Traore's was pretty special.

Yup. I don’t think he looked up to see that Pearce had come off his line, and then lobbed him.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 8:52 amI though Hamilton tried to pass back to our keeper but ended up lobbing it into the net.
Talking of o.g’s I remember John Pender’s nickname being Penderog due to how often that name appeared as the opposition’s goal scorer.

Re: David Hamilton O.G
I think the own goal by Brian Laws first game of the season away at Gillingham was pretty good. If I remember Peter Higgs of the Burnley Express walked from Burnley for the game, lost a bet it something.
Re: David Hamilton O.G
Two OG's immediately spring to mind. Alex Elder v Leeds early 60's. Chipped Adam Blacklaw beautifully at the bee hole end. Then at the cricket field end John Talbut on his return to Burnley playing for WBA. Great finish in the first 5 minutes!

Peter said ahead of the 1980/81 season, our first in the 3rd division, that he was confident that we would have a good season so much so he pledged to walk to the first away game in the following season if we didn't finish in the top six. We finished 8th and so he had to do it and when the fixtures came out it was Gillingham. Some other Burnley fans walked with him and a good sum was raised for charity.Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 9:11 amI think the own goal by Brian Laws first game of the season away at Gillingham was pretty good. I think there's a moment shortly afterwards that another player sends a difficult ball back to Marriott, (Monington?) and the keeper is far from happy about it!Conroysleftfoot wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 8:52 amI though Hamilton tried to pass back to our keeper but ended up lobbing it into the net.

Traore's attempt Cruyff turn on his own goal line was a gem

I scored a belter on Monday night. The best contact I have ever made with a football. Had I tried it at the right end, I'd have sliced it into the river.

Trailing to Middlesborough, circa '72, on the special from Burnley Central..a dreary 4 hours in a rattling old diesel, getting into a brawl with the local Neds in a shop doorway before the game, watching Dobbo smack a lovely unstoppable half volley past Stevenson to seal a 1-0 defeat....then being cornered, along with Illy and a group of Clarets, in the subway, by the Middlesborough skins didn't make for my finest ever day out.

Re: David Hamilton O.G
Didn't Pender earn the nickname Penderog after a 3-2 defeat at Peterborough where he managed to score two own goals ?
Re: David Hamilton O.G
I thought this was going to be another RIP thread... as I was wondering what had happened to David Hamilton .... I thought I would check.

Re: David Hamilton O.G
7th September 1991 .... 4th Division Championship season, finished 1-1, John Francis scored for us ( 52 ) ..... Hamilton received a Red Card, as did Ron Futcher for Crewe, I seem to recall " Rocket Ron " was absolutely livid ...BenWickes wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 7:09 amCan anyone remember that David Hamilton own goal? Two Richard’s walked with him. Richard Shaggy Sharp and The second Richard from the Cockney Clarets who recently sadly passed away

Re: David Hamilton O.G
I knew someone that walked with him but for the life of me can't remember his name. I do know Shaggy, see him quite often at games, but I'd no idea what his real name was even though I've known him for years.
Re: David Hamilton O.G
Richard Fleming was the Claret who also walked to Gillingham . RIP Richard

I remember applauding the walkers in Gillingham, but for the life of me I can't recall the Laws own goal. Mentioning the London Clarets, I still think one of the most spectacular / embarrassing OGs was one I "scored" myself with a screaming 18-yard volley when attempting a clearance playing for the London BFC Supporters against London B'pool supporters in the ABPFSCIL League at the Scrubs many moons ago.
