Why aren't we talking about Belarus?
Is it because we see everyone east of the German border as absolute nutters, or is it because they are just the wrong colour?

What's not to like about their leader? He suggested Vodka will keep Covid-19 at bay. He's not wrong. You'll be too pis*ed to care!Bin Ont Turf wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 8:27 pmIs it because we see everyone east of the German border as absolute nutters, or is it because they are just the wrong colour?

Re: Why aren't we talking about Belarus?
Its funny you should ask this question as the left wing media and commentators I follow on social media have been talking about it and there is a lot of people discussing what support and action should be taken
You might have a good point about being the wrong colour as whenever brown and black people protest and get widespread support there seems to be a right wing reaction that has to make a big noise and try to demonise them discredit their cause
This attack response is what more than likely makes it a main stream story so yes the colour of the protesters probably does make a difference but maybe not in the was you were getting at

Extreme left wing Government I believe. Totally aligned to Russia. I stand to be corrected.

Authoritarian dictatorship is about the best way to describe it nowadays but yes its roots are in the far left politics of the eastern bloc and communist Russia and China. Economically I think it still relies heavily on both country's and has become a pawn in their opposition to each other

Re: Why aren't we talking about Belarus?
Went to a kgb museum in Lithuania. And there was a whole section completely unrelated to the kgb history and purely focussed on ‘current’ (three years ago) human rights violations and atrocities in Belarus.
One things for sure. The presidents a bit of a nutjob. Groomed one of his sons literally to replace him whenever he does end his position as leader.
On Covid he said it’s better to die on your feet than live on your knees.

It's the same folk who told us we can't survive outside the EU, that suddenly want us to intervene in National Elections in Belarus ! What do they want, a gun-boat ?
Re: Why aren't we talking about Belarus?
Probably a looney left wing establishment backed Soros colour revolution being staged to punish the Belarus leadership for not going along with the global scamdemic.

Bill Gates using 5G to indoctrinate people and then enforcing his vaccine.
And the Rothschilds. Don’t forget them.
Think we’ve ticked everything off.

Yep they'll all be wearing face nappies, socialist distancing and scoffing cricket-bars and Bill Gates's fake meat soon enough. - As will we all.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 1:02 am

Anyone looking for order in our world feel confused by the different relationships. The governments of Israel and Hungary are friendly, despite the blatant anti-Semitism of the Hungarian PM. The British and US governments are reluctant to investigate evidence of Russian meddling in their democracies. Belarus has an election that people claim is rigged, but the UK and US response is, well, what?
The link in my opinion is a shared belief in authoritarianism.

That’s why we didn’t go from Lithuania. Time limits meant would have been a wasted journey so headed north to Latvia instead but would love to go.Cardclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 1:42 amBeen a couple of times, people great, security like you wouldn't believe.

Re: Why aren't we talking about Belarus?
Indeed it is White Russia.
I recall travelling there in the late 90's Lukashenko had expelled a number of foreign Diplomats and pronounced that all my people need to live is milk and cheese.
I went from Minsk to Grodno, Mogilev and south, near the Ukraine border, close to Chenobyl. Basically all round the place. Its very flat and many German tanks got stuck there in swamps on trying to return from the ill fated attack on Russia.
Theres not much to see so they took me to a church in one place and I noticed there were many young women there. I asked my agent why is this. He said they are praying to get out. No wonder. The national drink is tea but they didn't have any at Minsk airport.
