The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
Under “normal circumstances” I would welcome away fans but when I read yesterday that “singing may be banned” on the Holte End” with supporters signing a form not to sing etc I would be griped if that was the case with us and away fans just ignored it, if they didn’t and just say there what’s the point of away fans, might as well have home fans.
I am getting to the point of not bothering next season with the pre match atmosphere in pubs gone and the just sitting in my seat watching the match will have me reminiscing about how good the atmosphere was in our recent cup matches. We really will be playing in a Library.

Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
Shows just how difficult it will be. It’s going to be a major task for each club.Grumps wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 9:11 amStill not sure how they can make that work. Will households and bubbles be able to sit together? If so, how will they know how to arrange the socially distanced seating until they know who has won the ballot? If there is a household of 4,the seating around them will be different to around someone sat on their own.
Clubs will need as much space as possible to even attempt to make it work.
If away fans were allowed in, how would the home club know who can sit together and who cannot?

Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
One thing seems certain to me. Reading this thread shows what an unsolvable problem we find ourselves in. No one is going to be happy with everything provided by any solution. We can’t even agree on ticket/seating allocation without a pandemic in place! Unfortunately we are all guilty of putting our own needs above others. As someone said earlier, the whole match day experience is going to be full of arguing and disappointment until we have more space than people who want to go (as in normal times).

Think about what I put, using Accrington from your example, no fans no security cost, Accrington 3k fans 5k security cost say ( beer mat maths not real) Accrington 400 fans scattered about still but still will have 5k security but with less revenue in the ground to put towards costs.
My whole point is top flight teams can take a hit on the money they don't live on gate money like lower leagues do our money comes from tv not season ticket sales

Put your season tickets on hold lads and go and watch local football till we get a vaccine.Although club still take your money knowing you won't bewatching many live games.Still you can get a refund to spend on other tickets later on in Season.

All this thread shows me is that we just aren't ready for it at all. It wouldn't be responsible to go back without a safe method and unfortunately for various reasons that makes it 'unfair'
Safety has to come first for me, everything else is secondary.

Less fans = less revenue....pretty obvious.
Less fans = less security costs...pretty obvious
No fans = no match day revenue....blatantly obvious.
If it was a situation of all fans or no fans for these lower league clubs then why would that make any sense when nearly all of these teams don’t fill their grounds most weeks. For many a ground a third full will be about the norm.

Nail on the headTVC15 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 9:22 amMost football fans do not go to away games - that is based on the sheer numbers of fans who attend home games compared to away fans.
To suggest that the majority of supporters would prefer there to be away fans in a reduced attendance scenario does not make any sense.
The groups who are supposedly representing supporters seem to be simply representing themselves - and I’m guessing it’s probably because the large majority of these supporter groups are fans who travel to away games most weeks.
Why would the those large majority of season ticket holders who either never or rarely go to away games be in favour of away fans attending ? Firstly we already know it won’t be about creating a better atmosphere given there will be a few hundred away fans and secondly it would mean less of these season ticket holders being able to attend games.
Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
Plenty of people go to the away games for the day out/a few beers. Take the London games for example, you'd have to wear a face covering on the train down and on the tube, struggle to get in a pub beforehand and then in the ground sit away from your mates, and be frowned on if you dare to shout or sing. Doesn't sound like much fun to me!
Although i appreciate some people will be happy to do it, which is up to them. I personally wouldn't mind away sides been given a small allocation of say, 500 tickets.

Do you not understand what “by your argument” means ?
You said that 400 fans would be the same security costs as 3,000 fans. By that logic why would 4 fans or 100 fans not be the same security costs ? Is there another number you have made up in your head below which security costs start to reduce ? Is it 399 fans ?
Security costs are outside the ground not just in - do you not think these costs and the resources deployed are based on the amount of fans attending ? Simple question.

Do I need anymore Popcorn .
Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
Nope - those days are gone !
Out of interest would 400 bags of popcorn cost less than 3,000 bags ?

Its only right Dave Burnley attends, he was at the recent behind closed doors fixtures so I've no issue with him attending every other game. The issue is 100s coming on coaches for me.Les Lawrence wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 8:21 amWe all know that when home /away tickets are allocated, the select few super fans ,will get tickets to all the games

I was also hounded when I said Ben Gibson was a bad egg and needed to be shipped out. Couple of days later he was back at boro with my comments about him removed and then super posters claiming he was a bad egg were agreed with.

Some games are better than no games at all. Whats your problem?ClaretMov wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 9:18 amWhat i was saying is why should we only get certain games, some will not be happy with the way the games are dished out........it should be all back or non back accross football.
The lower league club's couldn't survive if they had to open to say 1000 fan's scattered around the ground but still had the same security costs

Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
A promising development my only worry is that fans will descend on grounds in their droves, and make any form of social distancing impossible to police. But it does make sense to try and get some fans into grounds, otherwise clubs will be struggling to survive, especially at those levels.
Non-league clubs at step three and below can admit fans to groundshttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53817206

Good news that. I think that’ll be us at non-league for 20/21, plus whatever Burnley games are on in the club on telly.

England fans hope to return in October
Another positive news story re: fans coming back.
The biggest challenge (and risk) is likely the commutes and or over crowding of pubs. But hopefully outdoor crowds can continue to be welcomed.
Things still look to be going in the right direction.

Colne are allowing in 200 for their home friendly on Saturday, ticket only. Hopefully things get relaxed a bit in a few weeks, wouldn't mind going to a few this year with all the restrictions there'll be for our games.

So, if it goes to one match in three, you could get one of the following sets of games, before they start messing with fixtures for europe, etc.
Man U - Chelsea - Wolves - Aston Villa - West Brom - Newcastle - Liverpool
Southampton - Crystal Palace - Sheffield United - Man City - Arsenal - West Ham
Tottenham - Everton - Fulham - Brighton - Leicester - Leeds

Re: The Telegraph : Fans returning to matches
The first thing that came to my mind when I heard of restricted attendances was - how are Burnley going to manage the toilet crush at half time in the upper tier of JH stand? Not to mention if this also includes people queuing for a half time pint.
Even with a third only attending, to keep social distanced queues at 2 metres apart will probably require markers over a mile long that potentially will extend up Brunshaw Road to Pike Hill. By the time you have splashed your clogs the second half will be completed anyway.

Scotland's stadiums could reopen for restricted numbers of fans from 14 Septemberhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/scotland/53 ... ing-story
Surprising development up here considering NS has applied a cautious approach to easing lockdown, of course there's no guarantee that this will yet happen, but even the fact that it's being mooted is a positive sign.
