Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
It's a signing and if Billy Mercer etc think he's good enough. That's good enough for me.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Great news. New keeper added to squad. Already played alongside Nick Pope, so we can expect him to settle quickly.
I won't say "Joe Hart replacement" because I already think we brought in BPF in this role a season back.
I found this para a little difficult to understand: "The last of those games was a 3-0 win against Sunderland in what was his debut but his only league appearance since was in the 2018/19 season against Fulham when he came on as a last minute substitute for Rui Patricio in a 1-0 victory at Molineux."
I was immediately confused by how "the last of those games" could also be "his debut..." It took me a few reads before I've got it.
Yes, this "one" is excited. The club is attending to business. I'd expect we still have "a little" in the transfer kitty to cover other needs.
EDIT: Happy birthday, Will. Welcome to Turf Moor.

Possibly allows BPF to go out on loan for some 1st team games maybe? Or is this lad happy to be a Number 3

Don't think BPF will be going out as he's paid his dues just to play the backup role this season.ZizkovClaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 12:29 pmPossibly allows BPF to go out on loan for some 1st team games maybe? Or is this lad happy to be a Number 3
It's probably more likely that Norris will allow the likes of Jensen to go out on loan and get some games if anything.

There is nobody better than us at quickly plugging the 3rd choice keeper gap.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Not a signing that will inspire much excitement but it's a very sensible one with a view to the future.
We have the best English goalkeeper on our books right now. Even the most partisan of Burnley fans needs to accept that if we are lucky enough to have England internations at the club at the peak of their prowess then we will struggle to hold onto them.
I expect this signing paves the way to a £50-£60 million windfall next summer.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Reading up a bit about him. Apparently can count himself unlucky Rui Patricio became available when he did as he is highly thought of at Wolves.
Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
It simply wouldn't be a BFC summer transfer window without the acquisition of a third choice keeper.
Hopefully this one is capable of being the third choice and we won't have to bring in another one should Pope get injured.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Sounds just the job for a third keeper. Not exciting, but an absolutely essential signing. Hopefully the first of a minimum of 4 and no outgoings. A new, young right wing back as well would be the cherry on the cake.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
This all seems straightforward and common sense, unless I'm missing something. We need 3 keepers. We always need 3 keepers. As any injury would mean no keeper on the bench, otherwise.
Having said that there's a few posters on here who know whether somebody is going to get injured in the next 12-18 months, so they could have just informed the club. The club would then have known whether to bother bringing another in and could have saved some money.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
If Pope did leave, it wouldn't surprise me if we went in for Butland who's available for £8-10 million according to Sky Sports. Not only do we love signing Stoke players but Mercer could get him back to his best.
Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Hopefully this 3rd choice is capable of stepping up and at least sitting on the bench should he be required.
I found it quite bizarre that Legzdins our previous 3rd choice keeper a couple of seasons wasn't even trusted to sit on the bench when we got an injury, so much so we went out and signed another 3rd choice goalkeeper making Legzdins 4th.

Not quite. The injury was long term therefore leaving us down to two for far too long. Made absolute sense to bring in Lindegaard.MACCA wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 2:35 pmHopefully this 3rd choice is capable of stepping up and at least sitting on the bench should he be required.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
I think the might be a different role for goalkeepers these days, Norris is 27 with not a lot of league experience - I suppose he's a like a 'goalkeeper-for-hire' for a more behind the scenes role - it's a different challenge than a player fighting for a spot in the first team - but it's their job to be a competent keeper to be used in training exercises.
I suppose it's like that Jon Stewart fella we had under Eddie Howe, Lee Grant at Manchester United, Andy Lonergan at Liverpool or Richard Wright ditching Preston to go to Manchester City. They are registered players as No.3's or No.4's - but their role is actually more than that.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
I wouldn't have included Jon Stewart in that group. He was never more than a non-league goalkeeper. Grant, Lonergan meanwhile have a hell of a lot of league experience. Grant has played 469 league games while Lonergan is on 353.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 3:08 pmI think the might be a different role for goalkeepers these days, Norris is 27 with not a lot of league experience - I suppose he's a like a 'goalkeeper-for-hire' for a more behind the scenes role - it's a different challenge than a player fighting for a spot in the first team - but it's their job to be a competent keeper to be used in training exercises.

was a fee involved or is the powder still dry?
Just noticed he signed for Wolves in 2017 for 3 years so maybe this is a so called free

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
The point I'm making though, the experienced keepers could still probably be plying their trade in the lowers leagues or abroad racking up appearances, but instead, they have accepted a different opportunity at top clubs knowing it was very, very unlikely they will play in the first team. But there must be a reason for that and I don't think it'll be just the money.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 3:19 pmI wouldn't have included Jon Stewart in that group. I might be completely wrong though, I don't know how clubs are set up and what training consists of - but I can imagine the need for other goalies to step into training sessions if the main keepers are not with the group for certain exercises.

Just been trying to clarify my posts and then stumbled across this article... Richard Wright was paid £4m during his 4 years at Manchester City. He made one appearance before retiring.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
but strangely you linked him with two goalkeepers with a lot of playing experience and one who shouldn't have even been getting a game in our reserves. Wright is a good example while Stuart Taylor is probably the best example of them all. In these days of transfer windows limiting the times you can sign players, you can't afford not to have three goalkeepers in your first team squad.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 4:17 pmJust been trying to clarify my posts and then stumbled across this article... Highly thought of at Wolves. Just a victim of circumstance with Patricio becoming available following that mess at Sporting Lisbon. I can assure you he won't be just picking up bibs, cones and to make up numbers.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 4:09 pm

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
When you look at what our coaching staff have done with Heaton and Pope then this is one signing I'm happy with. If they think he's good enough then so do I.
Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
I thought we’d sign a 3rd choice keeper first. My prediction of Lonergan on the other thread was way off though. That’s the keeper department sorted hopefully with no more changes.

I don't know anything about the lad at all but the attached youtube link shows he has excellent reflexes for a big keeper (6ft 5 in), i'm sure Billy Mercer has had some input in this and hopefully he has a successful time here.

All you can ask for from the club is to attempt to replace the lads who leave with better, and fair play, they’ve gone straight out and improved upon Joe Hart.
Yes this is bait.

Likes to save penalties, but looks to push the ball away alot rather than holding onto it, that would be punished a lot in the prem

Wow, some outstanding stops there!! Agree with your summary, but looks like the raw ingredients of a good keeper for Billy to work with.

The fact Lindegaard instantly overtook him in the pecking order meant it was very much a waste of a wage, even as little as he was on.
He was a glorified cone putter outer and bib collector.
I think we genuinely have a good couple of up and coming goalkeepers, hopefully at least one of them can get out on loan to get some mens football experience.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Simple fact is that for virtually two of the three seasons Legzdins was here we had a goalkeeper with a long term injury and was therefore needed as third choice. Anything but a waste of a wage. We were one injury away from needing him in the match day squad.MACCA wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 8:10 amI know, but still meant Legzdins wasn't ever even trusted/good enough to be on the bench.

Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
Looks like a good keeper.
Re: ARTICLE: Norris to sign from Wolves
The under 15s goal keeper has a very good reputation, and played at a higher level, also the under 14s goal keeper has played very well every time I've seen him play,ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 8:16 amYou say you genuinely think we have a good couple of up and coming goalkeepers. but that's only in youth football, some world beaters disappear, and then some of the ok lads seem to just take off .
Obviously the goal keeping position is a tough pathway regardless of club as only 1 ever plays, so it's always harder to make it, but it would be excellent to see 1 come through and be in with a genuine shout of playing, or failing that go into league football having come through with us.
Neither of the younger keepers I've seen are actually from round here mind.
Also Jensen was spoken about very well, and further back Thomas and Allen come from good set ups, so must have had something about them.
Hopefully our good reputation of goal keepers and the positive words from Billy and the new arrival of Otte will help 1 or 2 of them come through.
