Re: End for Pitchfork?
Ancelotti is a good manager. My concern is those managers who actually seem to rate Pickford

People only don't rate him because they feel Pope is better and Heaton before that. Represented England at every level. Weird, similar to the hate of Joe Hart.

Re: End for Pitchfork?
Part of the problem is that he is picked for England because he is an Everton player. His stock is high in the view of people who make such decisions because of the club he plays for. It's the assumption that a bigger club must have better players.
Of course the old adage also comes in to play that a keeper is only as good as the players in front of him, and there has been some poor performances in that department from Everton over the last season.

We will see how good he is if Chelsea come in for him as they are desperate for a better goalkeeperBlackburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 10:55 pmPeople only don't rate him because they feel Pope is better and Heaton before that. Re: End for Pitchfork?
Makes some stunning saves, lots do, but throws far too many in to be a great keeper.
Re: End for Pitchfork?
Is that the reason most ex footballers acting as pundits on tv are always finding fault with him as well?Blackburn_Claret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 10:55 pmPeople only don't rate him because they feel Pope is better and Heaton before that. Everton fans in the main see him as a gobsh1te and a liability.

I take your point but Everton have been mid/lower table for years. There's something drastically wrong when an England manager keeps picking a keeper when his own peers unanimously agree that he's not good enough. That defence in front of him won't help and I was surprised he went to Everton in the first place. Not because of their size but more for his own future prospects. He was making elementary mistakes at Sunderland and they haven't been ironed out.Zom Zom wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 7:18 amPart of the problem is that he is picked for England because he is an Everton player. Maybe the lack of keepers to challenge him hasn't helped at Sunderland or Everton, albeit I thought Stekelenburg was a better all round keeper than Pickford at Everton.

Re: End for Pitchfork?
But Southgate doesn’t ‘keep picking’ Pickford - England haven’t played for 9 months - and guess which keeper played the full 90 minutes in that game? Up to that point I would argue that Pickford was fully deserving of the England jersey. He had a good World Cup and was in that position on merit, it was nothing to do with the fact that he plays for Everton, who aren’t even one of the big clubs.BenWickes wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 9:13 amI take your point but Everton have been mid/lower table for years. Since England last played Pickford’s form has dropped dramatically and this has lead to a number of pundits and sports writers questioning his place in the side. How on earth Southgate can be criticised for this when he hasn’t picked an England side for 9 months is beyond me. If he continues to persist with Pickford when other players are clearly more suitable candidates then his judgement can be called into question.

Hmm. We'll have to agree to disagree. Quite a few pundits, peers etc were debating Pickford's starting place even before and during the 2018 World Cup.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 11:21 amBut Southgate doesn’t ‘keep picking’ Pickford - England haven’t played for 9 months - and guess which keeper played the full 90 minutes in that game? Re: End for Pitchfork?
i don't think southgate is that naive or daft enough to stick with an out of form keeper.
He isn't going to select people from bigger clubs when there are better elsewhere, there'd be no point.
If he did, then his own reputation as a coach suffers, and if results were poor he'd be sacked.

I thought this was going to be about the music website. Hope Pope gets more chances to show what he can do.
