Re: Hart signing for Spurs
The headline here should be the £50k a week we paid him. That is incredibly wasteful. I'd imagine Heaton was on a big wage as our captain, when did Pope get his most recent contract? We could have been paying upwards of £120k for three keepers at one point which is bizarre. Money that could have been better spent on other positions where we are weaker.
In terms of Hart himself, when he had his spell for us we were jaded and poor all over the pitch but Hart let in far too many goals and in my opinion he couldn't organise the defence as well as Pope or Heaton, hence we faced more shots. Its not fair to blame him for our bad spell but he certainly didn't perform to the levels any of us expected that's for sure.
A strange signing at the time and a poor signing in retrospect. But best of luck Joe.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
He's just gone to play the Scott Carson/Lee Grant/Andy Lonergan/Rob Green role of extra keeper to meet the homegrown quota. Unless Spurs have an injury crisis, he'll play fewer minutes than he did for us.TVC15 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 12:07 pmHe’s not gone there as 3rd choice keeper.
Lloris has had losses of form and a couple of injuries.
Hart will be expecting to play for them either in Europe or any other circumstance. So will Gazzaniga.
It will be about who Mourinho decides he wants to play - and nobody knows that - probably not even him until the situation occurs !

Brian Jensen gave us some great moments as well as bad ones
Who can forget his penalty saves at Chelsea in the cup

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Grant was definitely not crap, sure he wasn’t a world class goalkeeper but he was a very very good Championship level goalkeeper and quite rightly won our player of the year.

No he won’t, he will likely be 2nd choice and Lloris won’t play every game.
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Lloris seemed to be going the way of De Gea whenever I saw him play, last season.

He was also terrible at saving anything from the edge or outside of the box!
50k per week we're well shut.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Possibly - and I get that is your view.
I disagree....I don’t doubt there are financial reasons behind this but not seen anything to suggest that’s why Spurs have signed him or Hart himself thinks he is going there to be 3rd keeper and effectively never play.
But time will tell.
Glad he is off our wage bill - nothing against him. Think it was unnecessary signing personally and that when he did play for us he was not great - I didn’t expect him to be either as he had struggled at West Ham and been dropped to the bench and he also made some big mistakes at Torino. He was a very good keeper no doubt at City but he lost his confidence and the way he was treated by Guardiola must have contributed to that. He went from being a senior player loved by the fans to effectively being embarrassed by the new manager.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Jensen was a poor goal keeper. He was physically not fit enough and could not read the game.
He had one good season and that was the 2008/9 other than that he was poor, no more so than our first premier league season, he was embarrassing
Lee Grant was a far superior to Jensen and he could throw in the odd clanger

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Whatever people think of him, he definitely could have got way more than £35k a week that he will get at Spurs.
So absolutely isnt a money motivated move.
I imagine the MLS for a start would have paid more than that. Not to mention other premier league clubs. Then there is the middle east, far east, other clubs in Europe.
He obviously thinks he could get a chance at a top club in Spurs. Lloris form has been hit and miss. He had a dreadful injury last season. They have a top manager, facilities and lots of games to play next year.
On paper looks like could be a great move for him.

Seems a sensible move for Spurs and Hart. They need more homegrown players and also don't have much cash to splash. I wish him the best.

You don't seem able to understand that certain people disagree with you or you are unwilling to accept this, there's no way on gods green earth that JH is going to spurs to be the 3rd choice keeper, he might end up being the 3rd choice keeper but he won't be going there without trying to do his best to move up the pecking order & from when he signs until he is selected what happens in between will determine where he's ranked providing the others stay fit.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
2 things to note if you see the footage from behind the goal.
1. I think Hart is unsighted by the Watford player who runs across the line of the shot.
2. Just as the ball is hit Hart takes a small step to his right. This movement and the shifting of weight onto his right foot makes his reaction to the shot too slow. Added to point 1 it looks a very poor effort given the distance the shot came from.

Not often you see him beaten by a shot from distance to his left hand side.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
I take it that, given the thread has been bumped, he's given a soft goal away.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Goalkeepers need to adopt the ‘set position’
Your feet are around shoulder width apart, toes facing forward.
On your toes but not bouncing on them.
Knees are slightly flexed.
Elbows are comfortably tucked in and flexed.
Hands are presented in front of the body.
Chest facing forward.
Where the hands and feet are concerned, Hart gets these two critical areas wrong in my opinion and this is why he hasn’t evolved in the last four or five years.

Bloody hell, we’ve seen that before....
Good keeper in his day, but that day has long gone.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
The goal was a wicked deflection off an offside (I think) Andre Gray . Hart had no chance . It’s almost hilarious people on here calling out his stance and positioning ability as that’s always been one of his main assets . He’d no better or worse than he’s ever been tbf just some horrendous luck inc :
Getting beat off a Bale dipping at his feet special
A Rooney worldie from the halfway line
He played v well for us and had excellent Serie A stats ( 3rd best ) for a mediocre Torino side . Once a keeper is in the “ mistake “ spotlight it can ruin confidence and careers .

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Except it doesn't touch Gray. Unsighted by him yes. Deflection no. And given the ball has as already travelled 12-15 yards, tell me Hart's starting position is correct...

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
I'm an ex goalkeeper, nothing like a professional, even I can see that JH's starting position is too far to the right of his goal. That would have landed in Nick Pope's midriff.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
It’s all a little bit sad that a goal scored against Hart in a pre-season friendly for another team is being dissected on here.

Imagine that. Football being discussed on a football message board. The subject of the discussion being a player who, until a couple of months ago, was a Burnley player who it's fair to say polarized opinion.

Mutley on the bench for Dastardly in the dug-out.
