It's almost like Mourinho knows better than a load of Burnley fans crying that he wasn't Tom Heaton and that he had been on TV adverts.

Good luck to him.
He did nothing wrong here.
Not many, if any, clubs can say they'd 3 England keepers in their squads at the same time.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
The Times:
Tottenham Hotspur set to complete shock move for Joe Hart
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to complete a shock move for Joe Hart as they look to recruit a homegrown reserve goalkeeper.
Hart, 33, has 75 England caps and is available on a free transfer after leaving Burnley. The former Manchester City goalkeeper is set to sign a two-year contract with the option of a third and is expected to undergo a medical today.
Hart was earning £50,000 a week at Turf Moor, which is more than Tottenham were willing to pay him. It is thought Spurs have offered around £35,000 per week. Chelsea had also considered a move for Hart.
Tottenham have too many players who do not count as homegrown, which restricts the size of the squad they can name.
Under Premier League rules, a club can name no more than 17 overseas players in their 25-man squad. Hugo Lloris, of France, and Paulo Gazzaniga, of Argentina, are Tottenham’s present goalkeepers after the Dutchman Michel Vorm left the club this summer.
José Mourinho selected four homegrown players in his league squad in February, meaning he could name only a total of 21. The departures of Vorm and Jan Vertonghen, the Belgium defender, will also help Tottenham balance the numbers.
Hart joined Burnley two years ago and played 19 league matches in his first season when he shared duties with Tom Heaton. However Nick Pope became Burnley’s first choice last season and Hart was restricted to three appearances in cup competitions.

Best of luck to him. Shrewd signing on a free for Mourinho as back up to Lloris.
Hopefully Spurs fans are more forgiving of their players who appear in adverts. They’re probably more accustomed to it than Burnley fans are.

Maybe he believes in himself and he can? Evidently he wont be first choice. If Lloris gets injured, bans or loses form he will be number one at a huge club.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 9:05 amWasn’t that desperate for first team football after all.

I’d say his biggest problem is the amount of goals he’s conceded in the games he’s played in the last 4 years.

I’ve nothing against him and hope he does well. He was an excellent keeper at his peak, but it didn’t work out here.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 9:57 amMaybe he believes in himself and he can? Evidently he wont be first choice. I was merely commenting based on the fact that he did numerous interviews pointing out his desire to establish himself as a number one again somewhere and prove he wasn’t past it. On that basis a move to a top six club where they have a firmly established world class goalkeeper seems at odds with his interviews. He’s reportedly turned down offers from other clubs where he might have gone in as first choice.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
does it mean we've paid him 1/2 million since he's been here?
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
If the reported wages are correct (which they won't be), we'd have paid him that in ten weeks.Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:22 amdoes it mean we've paid him 1/2 million since he's been here?

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Is that any worse than the money spent on Gibson?
Whilst Hart may not be the standard he was when at his peak, he’s still a good keeper and despite what you hear on here peddled by those with an agenda, still did a decent job for us.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
20 games and 1/2 a million in wages, not great for business.
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
To be fair I'd also be upset at not playing games for Burnley if I was on only 50k a week.
Make that weekly wage 80k, a few million signing on fee, being a Spurs player, and the bright lights if London and I'm sure he will cope just fine.

£5m in wages
£4m transfer fee
That’s nearly half a million a game !
Given all the goals he conceded cost per goal conceded might be a better statistic - the kind of useless made up one the current government would come up with !

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
True, he needs to be number 1 somewhere instead of moving to clubs as a backup, but he's already probably achieved what he's happy with so why not pick the money up & see the final days out doing the minimal.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:55 amA player who has gone backwards. Re: Hart signing for Spurs
He'll get far more action as their number 2 than ours, with the Europa league. Plus Lloris hasn't been great the last few seasons, maybe he backs himself to compete for the number 1 shirt?
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
At them basic wages I'd expect a hell if a signing on fee and/or large playing bonuses.
2nd/3rd choice goal keeper is a great gig if you can get it

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
In his head Joe is still a top keeper
With the egotists at Spurs he will fit right in
He was poor for us and nothing to do with the fact he wasnt Tom Heaton
The real fact was hes on the slide, it happens to all footballers. It just takes some longer than others to realise it
But good luck to Joe,if he can get a bench warmers wage out of Spurs.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Signing on fee: £zero. Can you really see Levy approving a signing on fee for the squad's 3rd keeper?
And, I think that would be the case if there's been no covid-19 "shut out" of fans and no big, new, shiny stadium to pay for.
Yes, I hope Joe Hart is backing himself to get a shot at becoming 1st choice.

I don’t think so. On what he was being paid?
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Tall Paul is right, he will be third choice behind Gazzaniga i reckon.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
I wouldn't necessarily say that, gazzaniga has a few ricks in him, I don't think any incoming keeper purposely sets out to be number 2 or whatever number it doesn't work that way, you go in & then you are assessed in training to maintain the competitive edge, If Hart performs better in training than gazzaniga despite what was the position previously it's replaced.

Fair play to Joe Harts agent.
None of these bogus links with AC Milan and Roma etc.. Just quietly away gets the client a very good move to a top club.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
He’s not gone there as 3rd choice keeper.
Lloris has had losses of form and a couple of injuries.
Hart will be expecting to play for them either in Europe or any other circumstance. So will Gazzaniga.
It will be about who Mourinho decides he wants to play - and nobody knows that - probably not even him until the situation occurs !

Imagine we didnt have him for them 20 games and we played Legdzins in goal when Heaton, Pope and Lindergard were injured!Wile E Coyote wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 10:47 am20 games and 1/2 a million in wages, not great for business.
slightly more than 5m i imagine.
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
If we didnt have such brilliant popular keepers in Heaton and Pope I think Hart would have become a hero, it was just circumstances.
Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Gazzaniga is supposedly good - never seen him play - so not sure he'll be automatic second choice.

Jensen was often the best of a very bad bunch, but he was still bad. We have been very fortunate over the past few years to have had Heaton and Pope. Before that we lacked a decent keeper since Marlons first spell.

Re: Hart signing for Spurs
Jensen averaged out at ...well, average..As an all round keeper he had some major weaknesses: I still shudder at the memory of the 6-1 defeat at Ipswich when Joe Royle obviously told his players to shoot low, the 3-0 defeat at Cardiff and the comedy moment at home to Wigan, but he made a big contribution in the 2008/9 season.
