Legend
A big part of where we are today. Worked miracles especially in the 03-04 season where we was a very very bad side with awful players.

Good stuff, CT.
In all my 50 odd years following Burnley, Stan will always be sat at the top table of All-Time Claret Hero's.

I often wonder what Stan could have attained given real money to spend on transfers
I love his quote about people at Burnley having champagne tastes with beer money to spend.

Re: ARTICLE: Stan Ternent – June 1998 to May 2004
Invited me in to watch a Prem game whilst I was working at his house around Xmas time, I had to politely decline, looking back to how my day went I should have gone in and stuck my feet up with him. None the less we had a good chat and he was brilliant with me given that I was the bearer of bad news on his behalf that day! Stories were told including superlatives of course, it was a pleasure to meet Stan the Man! The first manager of my tenure as a season ticket holder - and I’ll never forget it!

Two main memories of Stan stick out for me, that day at Scunny, as mentioned and when he was leaving and walked along the pitch in tears, crying into a Clarets scarf really brought a lump to the throat.
He's had a dreadful last couple of years on the personal front, so all the best to you Stan.
A true Clarets legend as player and manager.

That's a great write up. I really liked Stan, what a character.
'Burnley chip eaters', 'champagne taste and beer money', Robbie Blake playing in 'diving boots'.

Yes Electroclaret things have been pretty shocking for him in recent years, I know his Cath (?Kath) passed away and think he may also have lost a son.
But what a 6 years we had with him.

Some very exciting times.
The football we played at the start of the season we missed out on the play offs by a goal was some of the best I’ve seen.

Your Managers articles have been excellent. Thanks Tony.
Re: ARTICLE: Stan Ternent – June 1998 to May 2004
Enjoyed reading that article Tony. Definitely a Clarets legend and left the club in a better position compared to when he arrived. Which is all you can ask for really. Another one of his quotes went something like (I think) 'let's crack on from here and see where it takes us' when we reached the 50 point mark. Lots of games come to mind when I think of Stan. I remember that game vs. Coventry when Magnus Hedman made those saves towards the end of the game which stopped us from reaching the playoffs. That would have been interesting if we had got there.

Re: ARTICLE: Stan Ternent – June 1998 to May 2004
This is what he had to say about the appalling referee Mark Cooper after a draw at Millwall in 2003
"We were cheated. I think we should have won the game 1-0, their goal was offside and we had a blatant penalty when Robbie Blake was fouled. There were six bookings and there was not a bad tackle in the whole of the game. We have been the victims of an awful refereeing display.
"He did the exact same thing against us at Crystal Palace and I say what I do with all due respect.
"If they want to fine me they can, but I won't be paying it. I will give them a video of the game and then they will be fining him. Something has to be done because a season's work is at stake. That was one of the worst refereeing displays I have ever seen and we have had two points taken away from us.
"I am not saying that we did not ride our luck, I am just saying that I felt that Millwall had a little help tonight. I know that refs go out there and try to do their best but if that was his best he should be reffing down at Hackney Marshes."
Our next league game was at Sheffield United which was three days after the cup defeat at Watford. We were dreadful that night and got away with it losing only 4-2 and he said.
"I'm not disappointed because we did not perform. I don't know whether it was a hangover from the FA Cup or because Sheffield United were miles too good for us but it was not good enough. Sheffield United were better than us by a million miles."
He changed formation at half time and was asked about that, and this is one of my all time favourite lines from him.
"We went from sixes and sevens to sevens and eights."

Did Stan not go to a press conference after a game and get asked why he played so and so...replied with you can’t please everyone so I just please myself and walked out?
