I read Tommy Boyle had a blinder in the FA Cup final 1914.levraiclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:02 pmBecause the question doesn't have the add on "that you have seen".
I read a book by someone who was there.

Leighton James against Brighton. Possibly 1977/78. Untouchable as the paper reviews subsequently reported.

Has to be Robbie Blake v Tottenham. He absolutely destroyed them that night.

I was at that one (if its the same game) The late Keith Newton scored a free kick, but another performance that stood out that day was Taffy. He tore them a new one down the wing. They couldn't handle him.warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 6:03 pmThere are some great ones on here
One of the best I saw was Martin Dobson away to Villa, in the early to mid seventies. It was a very cold frosty day and we won 3-0. He was sensational
1972, I think.

Another vote for Glen at Bradford. He was the best player on the pitch by an absolute mile. With the massive England win, One of the best weekends of my life ....and it was spent in Bradford of all places. Could do with a weekend like that now!

One that I witnessed that immediately springs to mind is Paul Barnes bagging 5 against Stockport.
I know the standard of football wasn’t the very best, but it’s still some achievement.

I've almost forgotten just how bad we were that day.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 10:25 pmBut was still better than all 11 of our players that day .... and their manager.

David Eyres at wembley against Stockport was unplayable with Steve Davies not that far behind.

First game in Jan. 1973 if it's the same one I'm thinking of. Villa were near the top of Div.2 and it was seen as an important game. We had Doug Collins missing but Billy Ingham deputised and scored, too, I think.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 11:15 pmI was at that one (if its the same game) The late Keith Newton scored a free kick, but another performance that stood out that day was Taffy. Kieran Trippier at Ewood in the 2-1 win was pretty spectacular- especially given the context of the game.
Glen Little away at Birmingham in a 3-2 midweek win also springs to mind as a player who was unplayable. I took a couple of non supporting Burnley fans to that match and they were enraptured.
Blake against Spurs is certainly a great shout. As is Pearce at Bradford. I certainly came away from both thinking I’d seen something very special.
