The Coyle demons were laid to rest.

We beat him again after that under Howe. And then when we went up under Dyche he was no longer relevant to most of us.

Now grateful for the time he was here, the exciting football we saw, the players he brought in and the foundations laid for where we are today.

Enjoyed coyles time at the club the day out at Wembley was fantastic the treatment he received on the turf that night was disappointing from fellow clarets each to there own we have a lot to thank him for utc

That Bolton game was wonderful, I enjoyed it no end. I do remember coming off that game and thinking we were genuine automatic promotion contenders though. I got that bit wrong.

Agree that Coyle became an irrelevance after we went up under Dyche the first time (well, to most anyway), and then brilliantly became a laughing stock after his spell with Rovers.

Both Davis and Coyle went from hero to zero pretty quickly with both BFC and its supporters and their careers. What does Steve Davis do these days. Did he follow OC to Wigan, Rovers, Ross County and the States or did he get off the dishwater train after Bolton?

I believe Steve's now working as a window cleaner in Nelson.

The atmosphere at the Bolton League cup game at the Turf was one of the best at Turf Moor iv witnessed. Very hostile and intimidating !

When Coyle left we were portrayed as the bad guys by the media. He was out savour and we gave him dogs abuse for leaving.


What the media and the rest of the footballing world didn’t know was it wasnt the fact he left, it was the manner in which he did it.

I had no problem with him going to Bolton. I had no problem with him taking Davis. I had no problem with him leaving in January. That’s football and is understandable.

The issue I had was the lies he told. The fact he lied where he was when we had a game at MK. The fact he used his pal Nixon to slag the club and it’s faithful chairman off in the press. The fact he said he had already been faithful to Burnley by rejecting the Celtic job in the summer, when a few months earlier he said he was never offered the job.


All of those lies were needless. If he wanted to go then fine it’s his choice. But he was needlessly selective with the truth and a man that constantly spoke about honesty and integrity was shown to have none of it.



When I think about it it still annoys me how the general footballing fans viewed Burnley fans at that period because of his lies.

Aye, the manner of his leaving was his undoing with many fans. And all the crap about Bolton being five to 10 years ahead of Burnley. Anyway, always remember; he who laughs last, laughs the hardest.
