Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Even with seeding now being removed, a good draw for Championship sides with the majority facing lower league opposition, only two all Championship ties which are:
Luton v Norwich
Barnsley v Nottingham Forest
Luton v Norwich
Barnsley v Nottingham Forest

Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
When Leyton Orient were drawn out in the southern section, the presenter said it was a return to the competition for them after a two year absence. Not sure where on earth they got that from and it was good to learn from Merson that neither Barrow nor Harrogate had ever played in the league before. You would think they'd do some research.

I didn't watch it, but if you want anything sensible, or even vaguely correct, don't watch MersonClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 11:05 amWhen Leyton Orient were drawn out in the southern section, the presenter said it was a return to the competition for them after a two year absence. Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Let's hope Rovers can hang in for a tie against one of the big boys in the next round. Maybe ourselves or Leeds would be exciting for them.

Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Teams who finish 19th and 18th in the previous Premier League season enter in round 2.

Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Barrow would have had a decent following at Derby.

Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Not included to ensure 32 clubs remain in round 3 for a straight knockout.
Round 1: 70 teams in 35 ties
Round 2: 35 winners plus Bournemouth & Watford plus 13 Premier League teams not in Europe, that's 50 in 25 ties
Round 3: 25 winners plus 7 Premier League teams in Europe
The obvious two to leave out are the two highest placed relegated teams from the Premier League.
A few years ago it worked out that they needed to get more out in the first round and the two teams promoted to the Football League had to play each other in a preliminary round tie. That was Crawley v Wimbledon.
Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Will any be on the telly ? And will Wigan still have a team by then ?

Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
I assume some will be televised, my best guess would be the following.
Northern section
Walsall v Sheffield Wednesday
Rochdale v Huddersfield Town (Rochdale had a good run in this comp last year)
Salford City v Rotherham United (almost a local derby)
Barnsley v Nottingham Forest
Southern section
Plymouth Argyle v Queens Park Rangers
MK Dons v Coventry City
Crawley Town v Millwall (Crawley dumped Norwich out at this stage last season, so they must stand a fair shout at SKY showing interest)
Stevenage v Portsmouth
Northampton Town v Cardiff City
Luton Town v Norwich City (newly relegated PL team will always be a draw)
Newport County v Swansea City (tasty Welsh derby)
I'd expect any TV games to come from that list, although they might show the Derby-Barrow tie, but as Barrow are away they probably won't bother, if they'd have been drawn at home I strongly suspect they would have attracted the cameras.
I'll be if any fans are allowed on these matches, but you never know.

Re: League Cup 1st Round draw
Isn’t the earliest date for fans from Government at the start of October? That would mean all of first four rounds of League Cup behind closed doors.

I've been to one of those games. Bristol rovers v Boston United. Boston's first away competitive fixture as a league club.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2020 2:30 pmNot included to ensure 32 clubs remain in round 3 for a straight knockout.
