Yes. That was his debut... and as good as it got for him at Burnley.

Frederick Nimani away at Bolton when Judas took over. He was absolutely shocking ! Remco ban der Schaaf was awful too !

Went down to Derby for fogged off replay, he was running around like a headless chicken for one of their goals, then it was smashed in top corner from edge of boxBordeauxclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 9:15 pmHe played that one yeah and was also in for the 2-2 draw against Derby.

Paul Stewart has been mentioned several times but his performance away at Barnsley was the absolute nadir of his time with us. It is the only time I have ever been glad when one of our players was sent off.

In think the main culprits have been listed
Nik Michopoulos v Sheff Weds, had a howler in the first half, was subbed by Stan at half time and replaced by Marlon Beresford who was just as bad.

Given the level we were at. And the relative wages paid I would have to say Sean Dyche away at Everton this season. Absolute shocker. Thankfully throwing Kev long on up top seems a lifetime ago now.

The Chesterfield game was Kendall’s debut. Seem to remember John Francis coming off at the end with a facial cut after a clash with their nasty centre half who I believe is now a Premier League manager.

I always remember thinking back then that Dyche at Chesterfield and Matty Elliot at Oxford were two opposition centre halfs you would not want to get in a ruck with!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:58 pmThe Chesterfield game was Kendall’s debut. I still wouldn’t. I asked Dyche if he remembered that incident. He just smiled.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 11:13 pmI always remember thinking back then that Dyche at Chesterfield and Matty Elliot at Oxford were two opposition centre halfs you would not want to get in a ruck with!

I was going to mention that one but you beat me to it. Two of the worst goalkeeping performances I’ve ever seen.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:20 pmIn think the main culprits have been listed

Something fishy about that game
Red card
Own goal
Threw 6 goals in, the only decent one was the 7th
Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
Oh and honourable mention to Leon Cort for giving away a penalty against Reading at home and then getting sent off later on. An absolute cart horse

Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
Michopoulos opted to go down injured after the third goal while still in the first half. Beresford came on then and was even worse. No wonder we conceded a lot of goals that season with those two goalkeepers.claptrappers_union wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 10:20 pmIn think the main culprits have been listed

Goalkeeping performances always most likely to stick in the mind and the main ones already mentioned - although not individually responsible for the overall capitulation Frank-Petter Kval - first and last game FA Cup 1st Round defeat away to Darlington (played at Middlesbrough) under Stan - late 1990s - 2-0 up - lost 3-2 Quakers scored a very late winner - which from memory he seemed too short to reach

Nimani. A basketball player. An impostor. He went to PAOK and played mainly basketball. Then traveled further into Lapland and reverted to being a footballer. Scored a couple of if goals in the Norwegian and Swiss minor leagues. Two games for Burnley, where he did absolutely nothing except to demonstrate that he was really a basketball player.

Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
I was at Millwall that day. Wharton was so bad the Millwall lads in the side stand were cheering him. On a par with Kendall's shocker at Blackpool in 91-92.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 1:37 pmTwo stand out for me when one of our players was so bad that it felt like we were playing ten against twelve.
Malcolm Smith v Stoke (a) - 1978/79
Andy Wharton v Millwall (a) - 1983/84
I’ve seen worse team performance etc. but in context of the games, these two were the worst.
Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
I seem to remember a much hyped Tony Hancock in a game. He did one flick of the ball over his head on the bye-line and that was it. Did the square root of bugger all else.

It’s Mark Kendall for me as well On debut, Blackpool 5 - 2 Burnley , he was just as bad in his next and last game for us in the abandoned( for fog )FA cup game against Derby away! After that Chris pierce was recalled, and he had a shocker in the rearranged cup game
We were sitting behind his wife at the Baseball Ground. She was led away in tears at the vitriol coming from all around.

Frank Petter Kval, in goal away to Darlington in the FA Cup.
Absolutely abysmal and I don’t think we ever saw him again.

Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
I remember being behind the goal.We were defending the other end( which we couldn’t see coz of the fog), the Derby fans started singing 3-0 then later sang 4-0, which was quite amusing! Considering we were 2-0 down when the match was abandoned.Guitargeorge wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 8:11 amIt’s Mark Kendall for me as well On debut, Blackpool 5 - 2 Burnley , he was just as bad in his next and last game for us in the abandoned( for fog )FA cup game against Derby away! For me, it’s Richard Eckersley at Barnsley. Genuinely looked like he’d never played the game before. Subbed at half time, never played for Burnley again - don’t think he even played in English football again!

Only a friendly but I seem to remember Andre Bikey had an absolute shocker away at Bury.
Couldn't make a 2 yard pass without messing it up.
We started to think he was doing it on purpose after a while!

Another for Dave (striker) Jones.
Working in London Clarets at Orient so I went.
Didn't even know he had signed, 90 minutes later wished he hadn't.

Yes !!! When I read the mentions of David Jones on this thread that game at Orient, which I also attended, immediately came to mind. He was absolutely horrendous that day. It was as if he had been told to be deliberately aimless ("Just go out there and wander round son, no one will notice")

Also a mention for Chris Iwelumo at the Ricoh v Coventry. Genuinely we might as well have just planted a tree midway in their half.

Eckersley did play for Burnley again. He played in an FA Cup tie later that season and in the League Cup in the following season. He also went on to play a further 28 games for other clubs in the Football League.scouseclaret wrote: ↑Fri Aug 21, 2020 11:37 amFor me, it’s Richard Eckersley at Barnsley. Wayne Thomas I think away at Hull around 2007. The only defender I've ever seen jump up for a header and duck. How we got 1.2m for him I'll never know.

Played four times for us, four times he was awful. Came back to play against us for Doncaster, played well and scored the only goal of the game. Looked like a different player - difference was, we played him up front and Donny played him in the centre of defence.

I reckon Gazza's performance away at Portsmouth was worse than that. Again, there was no doubt in my mind that he was not sober during that game. Was genuinely upsetting to see how poor he was and have to presume the reason why.

Christ, that Bikey game was an absolute car-crash performance. Spent the whole train ride home trying to come up with reasons why we shouldn't get rid of him. Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
I'll put forward a combo performance, simply because I can't decide which one was worse:
The centre half pairing of Graham Branch and Arthur Gnohere against Crewe on Boxing Day 2003.
What an awful game that was. We got an 89th minute consolation penalty that we never deserved and still managed to concede another after it.

Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
Drinkwater's occasional cameo roles were shocking.
Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
Frank Sinclair away at West Brom in the Cotterill era. Think we were 3 nil down at half time. Sinclair was playing right back and Jason Koumas absolutely ran rings around him. I seem to recall him attempting to knock some simple passes up the touchline and repeatedly just putting them into the stand, before he was eventually sent off.
Re: Worst ever individual performance by a Burnley player ?
Can'y believe i haven't seen Peter Zelem mentioned, can't remember who we were playing but the ball got played through to the centre forward, Zelem was favourite to get there first but turned like the QE2 and then gave up

It was. First time I’d seen him when he came out to warm up. I thought this bloke looks the part. Then, sadly, we kicked off.
