What is the media's obsession with having female pundits for men's sport? They've ruined TMS and are all over the BBC highlights programme. I can cope with watching with the sound off, but a bit of a pain turning the sound down every time they speak on TMS.

I loved the comment from Nasser Hussain towards the end. He said if he finishes on 599 he will be cursing those who have dropped catches - Burns, Crawley, Broad, Buttler and Hussain.

Yikes! you forget how long Jimmy has been playing test cricket, just checking and there was a brief crossover between the end of Nasser's test career and the start of Jimmy's, they probably did play together in a couple of series around the mid 2000's.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 11:02 pmI loved the comment from Nasser Hussain towards the end. That's also a feature of Anderson's career his longevity is staggering for a seam bowler, and he's like a fine wine he seems to mature with age, I hope he plays at least one more home summer, it wouldn't feel right him not getting a send off at OT and Lords in front of a capacity crowd, after all he's done for English cricket down the years, it gets forgotten now he's concentrating on test cricket, but he's still England's record wicket taker in ODI'S I believe, and he also holds the record for the most not-out's in test cricket 87 and counting, he might even reach his century there yet to add to his list of achievements.
Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
Goal tomorrow should be to get Jimmy to 6oo, not going to win.
Get him a couple of overs as soon as we start, if nothing happens, get the spinners on to whip through 20 odd overs as quick as possible, then get him back with the new ball in hand. Only chance of him getting to 600 tomorrow. Good luck lad!

More than them probably playing together. Nasser was a huge influence in him getting into the test team. Vaughan was the problem for Jimmy, had he not captained England then Jimmy could be closer to 650.tiger76 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 11:56 pmYikes! you forget how long Jimmy has been playing test cricket, just checking and there was a brief crossover between the end of Nasser's test career and the start of Jimmy's, they probably did play together in a couple of series around the mid 2000's.

Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
I don’t know any details about Michael Vaughan not Playing Jimmy I thought his big issue was the England Coaches attempting to remodel his action to stop looking at his toes when he was in his delivery stride. After they remodelled it he wasn’t pulling up any trees you just need to look at the BBC year in year average for him to see that. Vaughan is nothing but complimentary about him. The nearest to a bad thing he has said about him is to suggest that him and Broad need managing properly so that they play less games together for future proof reasons.

No he wasn’t he said he looked old for the first time which at some points especially when fielding he did in that Test. Vaughan had an opinion and is paid to give it, not once did he say he should retire though well not when I was listening he didn’t anyway.

Hopeful of play starting soon, so Jimmy might yet get his 600, I doubt England will have enough time to force a win however.
Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
Play due to start at 16:15 with potential ally 42 overs of cricket.
Can jimmy do it?
If we can get 2 out in first 10 overs theres a chance of a result.
Nice little Jimmy peice in now.
"19 year old Jmmy Anderson, Burnley born and bread" just instantly makes you smile proudly.

Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
They'll do well to get 42 overs in, but they might manage play until about 6.30, nip a couple out early and you never know, Pakistan have a long tail.MACCA wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 3:58 pmPlay due to start at 16:15 with potential ally 42 overs of cricket.

But yes the real interest is whether Jimmy can achieve yet another landmark in his illustrious England career.

Archer bowling to a field without any slips at all. Strange, even though it is a slow pitch.

Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
I sat here in front of my tv back in 2003 and watched him take his first test wicket. I’m sat here now having just seen his 600th.

Finally he gets there, that should release some pressure of the England team, that milestone has been weighing on their minds for the last few days, and the dropped catches won't have helped their mood.
Jimmy Anderson 600 not out, now can he get another 5 for and bowl England to victory.

Phil Bolton v Anderson 26
This was on 9th May 1998 when he made his Lancashire League debut. He took 1/13 that day in 8 overs. I missed that game due to my refusal to go to East Lancs but saw him bowling for Burnley and being hugely impressed. Even so, I could never have imagined this.

A wicket for Root, that's a bonus for England ahead of the new ball. 6 more to go, a win puts us above Australia in the WTC standings, so this game does mean something to England.
Jimmy's back with the new ball.

Need 6 wickets though in 18 overs and that’s if the light holds up
Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
Brilliant stuff from Jimmy, a truly magnificent feat in both fitness and ability, thank goodness he's a Claret.
Be very surprised if we see any similar achievement in our lifetime.

Favourite wicket for me was against the Aussies in Australia with Mitchell Johnson handing out a few verbals at Jimmy and next delivery he got a wicket, just turned towards Johnson, shrugged his shoulders and invited him to shut up. Brilliant!

Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
We already have a St James’ Street but I’m sure there was a suggestion some time ago about renaming Centenary Way as James Anderson Way. That or even renaming Manchester Road from roundabout by Trafalgar Street down to the bottom. Something has to be done and should be in the central area of town.

Well done Sir James Anderson. What a sportsman. Also on the same day that another 'sportsman' was found guilty of a criminal offence in Greece. No comparison !!

Re: England vs Pakistan 3rd test (Southampton)
That was the one real disappointment really.
Got our town a good few mentions again too on commentary today. Just brilliant, what an incredible moment when that ball stuck in Joe Root’s hands.
