Finally an official claret
Finally an official claret
So my South Aftican friend who moved to Burnley 2 years ago has finally became in his words "a lifelong claret"
Having moved here 2 years ago and Rugby being his sport, he wanted to experience the whole day as a "soccer" fan.
He had briefly heard of the premier league but being from there there's only 1 sport anyone takes real notice of.
He attended the Turf, loved the whole pre match ritual beers, in game experience etc resulting in a Burnley win.
We had many a post match beer watching live bands in the local pubs.
After a few games, he had to move to Warwickshire for work, since then he has watched us every time on tv and kept up to date with our progress, often summarising our performance, not always with the correct terminology as you can imagine. He has nailed his colours to the mast often getting banter off his friends back home and new work colleagues.
He loves the whole underdog tag we have, and the fact we are written off and unnoticed by the media.
Being a rugby man ( and a very good club player back home ) he loves the fight we show against the big boys.
This weekend we arranged a catch up and a braii ( bbq ) and I presented him with a gift he was more than happy to accept. ( sadly we couldn't arrange him the new shirt )
The first time him or any of his family has worn a soccer shirt.
So here is Steve, and as he says, he's now a proud claret
South African and Warwickshire clarets has now been formed.
He's hoping to see another game soon!

He's escaped a horrid time over there, starting a new life hoping to change his childrens life for the better.

I wish, we joked about that earlier, he got them back home for cheaper than a bottle of water from the shop over here, so his next trip home he's bringing me back 2 pairs in every colour!

Hope you are ok Tony
I am sure you have many friends who you consider Clarets who weren’t always football or Burnley fans.
Let’s not split hairs and welcome another Claret
His answer to the Sceptical Eggchasers when asked why do you support Burnley “ because I am lucky”
I look forward to seeing all Clarets new and old and in mine and Tony’s case even older back on beloved Turf sooner rather than later

Some people might say or have the fixed idea it doesn't really matter as long as you die the right colour, what happens in between represents scant irrelevance.

Having moved over here, all these new beers he's trying over here, he is like a kid in a sweet shop.
He actually likes Carling and drinks that.
However yesterday he tried
2 different ales at the pub, then a carlsberg, a cloudy apple strongbow, then a San Miguel, before getting on the cans of Magners and carling before the brandy round the fire ( outdoors ) later evening.
I think he just buys 3 different beers in the 3 for £21 section
I'm sure he will settle on his favourites soon although he does stress he loves carling and a lot of people poke fun at him for it!
Edit - his can was actually Thatchers, his beer fridge was full of all sorts....

Re: Finally an official claret
Not sure that response will go down well with all those who haven't seen close relatives for months, or those on here locked in their houses for months
Re: Finally an official claret
Probably won't, I've not seen some close relatives either, although we have done some visits and window/driveway chats.
I'll continue to not visit any of my family whilst this virus is very prevalent around Burnley.
However I sat in a pub yesterday with 30 random people I'd never met before, I used toiles where 5 others were doing the same, I enjoyed a meal in a restaurant with again possibly 50 random people on Friday night.
You'd be crazy to think I'd not shake and good friends hand, and have a picture with him having not seen him for a year.
If I can do it in a pub, i can do it in his open spaced back garden where it's far more cleaner, I can wash my hands as regularly as I like, and exceed the recommended social distancing.
On a side note, not quite sure on the rules down here, I dont think there are any, every place seems booming busy and it seems extremely relaxed measures compared to Burnley.
People can be careful, use common sense and still go about their daily lives as best they can.
Id bet 95% of people in the country havent remained 2m from anyone else not in their household for the last 16 weeks. Its virtually impossible unless you have not left the house for 4 months
Dont worry though, back home tonight.

Iam just not sure posting pictures of breaking the rules is the best thing to do though... Just my opinion.... Might be an age thing.
Re: Finally an official claret
Possibly not, but as the old saying goes, do the crime do the time.
I'd rather not lie or pretend it didnt happen.
Honesty is the best policy.
People would be a tad hypocritical if they were upset with me, yet turned a blind eye and cheered on there local sports team having upto 100 people having done the same.
Re: Finally an official claret
So if you caught Covid 19 from Steve, or vice versa you could potentially pass it onto all those people in the pub, but its ok because you haven't seen him in a year?MACCA wrote: ↑Sun Aug 23, 2020 8:02 amProbably won't, I've not seen some close relatives either, although we have done some visits and window/driveway chats.

Re: Finally an official claret
Or those in the pub could pass it onto me, but it's ok as they wanted a pint, and aslong as they're spending money to help the economy the rules dont apply...
That's the point I'm making, they were loads in that pub if I met Steve there, spent 6 hours with him it's fine, meet him in his garden it isnt. Seems a strange rule

We have a great group here that are continuing to work hard, learn and grow.
We cannot control the uncontrollables, we can only concentrate on delivering performances we know we are capable of.
They'll always be questions asked and outside noise, but it's our job to see past that and continue to lay down markers.

Where’s your shirt from Macca? Is that part of last years training range? Wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one!

It was one designed and printed by bfccrazy off here, it did have bene n hot as the sponsor, but I removed it.
This was the shirt originally, very smart imo an only £30 delivered.

Re: Finally an official claret
I tried in the pub, but when using the urinal, 3 other gentlemen entered the toilets and used the ones either side of me, also the wash basins, or hand dryers were not 2m apart either when i washed and dried my hands
The various waiters went from table to table dropping off beers too. Poor set up.
Hope I'm ok, I'm isolating as soon as I'm home until I go Beijing restaurant for my tea Wednesday
