Dubh-Linn

Its name is derived from the Irish dubh linn (meaning "black pool"), but its official Irish name is Baile Átha Cliath (meaning "town of the hurdled ford"). ...

A bar in Manchester is now changing its name. The name of the The Plantation bar is said to be negative due to slaves having worked in the plantation fields. All due to someone being offended on Twitter. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Haven't the words Man and Chest been outlawed yet? If so, it's a bar in 'er'.

Nice food in the Black Boy in the tv programme it's near me
The idea of erasing history smacks of Polpots mad regime
We can change the future but not the past
Its how it was.White working class folk got shafted in the past working for a pittance in the Cotton mills.Do we destroy all references to Kay.Arkright and Hargreaves because their inventions made them rich on the backs of the poor?

I keep hearing this about ‘erasing history’. How is this or anything else erasing history? You’ve just said we can change the future and not the past, well renaming a pub is literally changing the future and not the past.

There's no debate on this thread just a load of imagined nonsense (light hearted to be fair) so I added to it but unsurprisingly some idiots really thought I was serious.

Still you're the one who thinks it Corbyn's lot in bed with Putin and the Ruskies

I have two observations on this modern woke herd madness:

1. Due to this, I see Trump winning again (a disaster, given how China has advanced during his tenure). The independent middle, epitomised by many on here, will vote for him out of frustration with the craziness and will decide Trump is less crazy than the wokeness.

2. Over here, it will lead to some knee jerk reactions the other way (scrapping the BBC, which would be another disaster, being the obvious one). See how Boris came out yesterday and expressed his frustration in a very direct way, apparently against the advice of his spin doctors.

Douglas Murray sums this all up very well in “The Madness of Crowds”. It all starts with the hyper-liberals making some sensible suggestions we would all agree with, then it creeps and creeps and creeps into total craziness. Each crazy decision in isolation seeming very minor (e.g. the Proms) but before we know it the whole world has changed, and not for the better. Meanwhile, China advances, and advances, laughing at us.

The good news is "chest" is OK because it is universal to men and women of all races. The bad news is "er" is banned because it's offensive to stutterers.

And as Humphrey Lyttleton once pointed out, making jokes about stuttering is a big, big no-no.

it's cake and eat it, because there's a lot of posturing-as-black that for some reason if white folk did the same, they would be uproar, for example 'Black art'.

They changed the name of the dog 'nigger' but not the grave name of Sambo at Sunderland Point.

If it's the Black Boy in Winchester, It's a good pub and the name has no 'conatations', there's a pub called 'The Green Man' in Winchester, I was called blondie if I got into trouble as a boy, the pub is hundreds of years old, a black boy in Winchester would have been an unusual sight at the time and in terms of recognition 'black boy' is an identifying description.

The name I think refers to a chimney sweep anyway and not a person of African origin.

Because you need reminders of the past to differentiate between what was bad and what is now good.

It is why we never forget the World Wars and the Holocaust. Remove these from history and the lessons will never be learned by future generations

Good example. What would you think about pubs in Germany that had names with connotations to the holocaust?

If you cancel the words of Rule brittania how will future generations learn that its celebrating the Royal Navy being strong enough to bring an end to centuries of marauding fleets of North African Barbary ships coming to The British Isles and taking men women and children into slavery. "Britons never, never, never, will be slaves"

You learn from the past.

You do not erase it.

When the word Black is erased from history the slogan will read "Life's Matter" sounds about right to me.

The Coconut have “unanimously” decided to continue the use of blackface as part of their “unique mining tradition” saying it is connected with “ethnicity nor any form of racial prejudice.”

They said: “As a team we have discussed the use of black face makeup in great detail and have come to a unanimous decision that this will continue to be part of our unique mining tradition, removing any part of our costume will take away the mystique of who we are.

“The dances were devised by local miners.

“Since they all had permanently black faces on working days, from the outset it became an essential part of the tradition that they also performed with black faces.

“This tradition has now been maintained continuously for more than a century. It has no connection with ethnicity nor any form of racial prejudice.”

They added that they hope the JMO “understand and respect the decision.”

Good for them. If they're not prepared to bow at the alter of marxist political correctness , then more power to their elbow.
