How do you like being cookied?
The users of the Internet are all guinea pigs for remote control.
Via individual cookies, the Hi Karate priest of soul destruction can begin to build an Ad drop interpersonal rhythm kicker by computing you and knowing where to hit... Like on youtube, when to interject with the antithesis of all notion of what one would like, if there were an interjection and all market researched to hurt you i.e. a different bump and grind coming at one from the screen to pepper one however which way it can, mimicking human gesture in its excite.
It's military level psychologies of exasperation for example.
What hurts, how and how to semaphore it via electronic means...
I wonder if there will eventually be a revolt and folk will just turn off and find other ways and subject to trial those that have experimented on folk unawares in such a manner under the auspices of ad agency.

It's very scary stuff. Even more scary is that my targeted adverts these days seem to be for gardening equipment, functional footwear and life insurance. I'm past my prime and those b*****ds know it.

We went into ‘Dreams’ bed shop today in Burnley to buy a bed for my daughter. I will have used my phone in there whilst my wife spoke to the sales assistant to check twitter, on here etc. At no point did I search for anything to do with beds or mattresses and haven’t done previously as my wife has done all the research in which one to buy.
This afternoon and tonight I’ve had dozens of adverts regarding beds, pillows and the like appear as adverts on the pages I’ve visited.

Substance abuse & drug awareness was within the remit of Public Health England, luckily we still have Pstotto.

It’s more worrying when you discuss things and never go near the place and then get adverts...
In all seriousness businesses have wireless technology in place that targets customers. It’s all above board and legal. Much of it’s on ts and cs we’ve all agreed to without bothering to read.
I’ve worked with the technology. It’s powerful but scary.
Having said all that I’ve no issue with receiving relevant advertising per se. But it can be intrusive at times.
I’m sure tighter legislation will come in at some point.

Re: How do you like being cookied?
I don't get the issue. The cookies are used to make your advertising more relevant, would you rather have seen ads unrelated to something you're interested in purchasing?
Cookies dont carry and transmit pi information - they just customise the adverts you are exposed to based on your search history and browsing signals. If you go on nexts website and look at some shoes you'll probably see a flurry of ads for these.
It's all fine.

Yes you will have inadvertently agreed to it somehow somewhere.
Not sure what dreams use exactly. But it’s all a similar concept.
Basically you will connect to one of their wireless access points even if you haven’t used their WiFi before.
They can then use this for a whole host of things.
Tracking footfall
Demographics
Targeting you with advertising
Identify if their own marketing campaigns in store work by tracking where people move around
Tracking if people are stood in a certain area for some time so can send a sales agent over
Even using it in an emergency say a fire or terrorist attack they can say how many people were in the store at anyone time
Loads more stuff. It’s pretty crazy when you think about it.
But some of what they can and do do is incredible.

If you register you will get even more stuff.
This is why so many places have free WiFi. Nothing is free. You’re trading your data for their WiFi.

You are focussing on the ads. They listen to your personal conversations, with spouse or whoever, via Alexa and Siri and then bombard you with ads but who do they then sell this information on to and what do they do with that info. I turned Siri off but still get bombarded with crap I have no interest in because a keyword popped up in a chat.Claretmatt4 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 12:36 amI don't get the issue. That's a fair point and I've had this happen to me before and it's creepy... But they don't 'listen' to your conversations, it just picks up if you've said a brand name for example. It's not okay, but it's not as bad as some make out.huw.Y.WattfromWare wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 12:42 am

They are changing the laws on websites to make it an explicit opt in on non essential (marketing) cookies although I'm not sure when the hard cut off is. It means it will be opt out by default and you have to make some effort to opt in unlike now.

Re: How do you like being cookied?
Claretmatt likes being battered by the interface yah... Surely you've watched Tom and Jerry where his eyelids are blinds and Jerry pulls them down. Every drop into the screen, every edit/cut paste of three or four subliminal computations in-synch for digital programming of the brain.
Ads?????
Hypnographics.
If all the electro-gesture of the web interface were a person, it would be an obnoxious entity for sure.
You're seeing ads for 'Russian women' and not the abstract communication IN THE FORM OF an ad for Russian women.

The Chinese military can target you and batter you with antithesis and dishonour via baby foods etc. karate punching your psyche 1000 times faster than a human can react to the very worse of ditties and stop/starts and stammers.
I'm the subject of a cyber war to get me to do the hokey cokey on command like the scientists going doolally at conferences in The IPCRESS FILE.
"Pstotto? I'm going to have to say goodbye to you, you're too hot".
If one is psychologically profiled and KGB/CIA/STASI/Chinese water torture-level pro-standard digital punching with PSYCHOLOGY, it's no different than walking down The Ramblas in Barcelona with a wad of notes hanging out of your back pocket.
These are professional thieves of your dignity.
It's WW4 the whole of the world superpowers v. you, every day.

Anyway, I've psychology profiled the thread readers to get this joke and find it funny:
'I came back from holiday recently and was speaking to the neighbour across the road and she asked how was it. I said we went Bed and Breakfast and she said 'AirBnB, ow nice..."'

I used to be addicted to the hokey cokey.
But I've turned myself around now.
And that's what it's all about.
Re: How do you like being cookied?
They are doing it to you, though and blaming you in the process of psychological abuse/addiction (because it's a demanding thing that needs attention to solving to getting rid of it) where one always has to solve a way to be to something.

Have I missed a world war somewhere? I've only heard of WW1 & 2
Did they sneak one in while I was busy with Covid?
They're damn clever, those Chinese
Re: How do you like being cookied?
There have been lots of anecdotes about phones, etc listening to conversations but I don't think I've ever seen anything definitive to prove this. I know that for Alexa there were a few third party tests where they inspected what was being sent back and there was no evidence that it was sending conversations other than those triggered by the wake word.Claretmatt4 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 7:40 amThat's a fair point and I've had this happen to me before and it's creepy... Yesterday i posted the CBD oil thread, today my Facebook is littered with adverts for Hemp oil, does Alexa listen to your conversations personally,do we really have big brother watching our every move, the people at Alexa headquarters most have some fun listening to me and the wifes strange conversations
Re: How do you like being cookied?
I cover the camera up on my screen but chances are all what you say could be picked up by your computer microphone and listened to at KGB headquarters whatever.
I joked about somebody being indecisive about 3 months ago. Since then, every time I bend down to pick something up, I miss and have to do it, twice.
I think I've been screen hypnotized by graphic excite to wrong hole-punch my cards to turn me into RoboMuppet.

However if in your conversation you mention say, 'Harry potter' it might trigger an ad for Harry Potter World (is that what it's called).

Re: How do you like being cookied?
The Internet reminds me of an allegorical joke about Lancashire.
'Two Jewish women were in the queue waiting to be executed when a Nazi guard said to one of them "Mind how you go, love". She turned round to her friend and smiled and said "You know, these Nazis... I think they're alright".
