Our Progress In 12 Years
Saw the RETRO game on SKY-Rovers v Burnley in the PL when Coyle was manager
Our defence was shocking and Jensen possibly had the worst game I have seen a keeper play in the PL. Clarke Carlisle, Fletcher, Nugent , Alexander and several others were quite shocking and just not up for the fight. Bikey, Blake , Mears and Elliott did at least try. A stark reminder of how far we have progressed in all departments

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
We’d gone up with a squad totally ill equipped for the Premier League and didn’t strengthen enough. Eckersley, Edgar & Easton were not the answer.

What if the question was "name 3 Burnley players whose surnames began with E in the 2010-2011 season?"ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 7:59 pmWe’d gone up with a squad totally ill equipped for the Premier League and didn’t strengthen enough. Eckersley, Edgar & Easton were not the answer.

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
The progress we have made is staggering.
Equally staggering is the way we have done it. If you want to be a successful EPL club, you have to spend millions and millions... yeah, right.
Always been proud to be a claret, even when we were proper shite, but i'm absolutely buzzing over who we are now.

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
Nope. Never Ever saw it coming.
The more money took a hold on the game, the further away this seemed to be for a club like ours.
Truly staggering. Can’t smile wide enough....

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
The master plan of Kilbys 12 years ago was to “become a West Brom”. Currently it feels we’ve achieved that easily and surpassed it.
Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
not just the manager, I think the board have played a very important part of this to, the sum of the parts is better than each individually the way I look at it but fair to say we all recognize the change/improvement over the last decade
Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
Pound for pound, we are far and away the best club in the country. Who could have believed it would happen?

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
Those who decided to pocket some the money in 2014-15 season and 15-16 for our future and to spend on Gawthorpe have recreated what our forefathers of the club did in the 1950's when we bought Gawthorpe (I think before the NCB did it opencast mining and diverted the river). Visionary. From one of the best Youth policies in the 50's and 60's to no policy in the 80's and early 90's with a few ups and downs with our Youth policy, to now has been one hell of a roller coaster. To those who were the new visionaries we should be eternally grateful as hopefully the fruits should begin to ripen in the next five years with one, two or even three home grown lads pulling on a first team shirt and keeping it.

It's been fantastic watching it unfold and having our day in the sunshine.
We must keep hold of SD though, so i hope the board are not going to let him down with our recruitment/playing budget.
The manager is also integral in attracting investment which will be needed in the coming seasons as we cannot keep performing miracles despite SD's ability.

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
We need to replay that Rover v Burnley games on Saturday nights when the team has had a "bad day in the office"
Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
I sometimes wonder how on earth we got 30 points that season. We had a great start but it went downhill quickly.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 7:59 pmWe’d gone up with a squad totally ill equipped for the Premier League and didn’t strengthen enough. That said, didn't we also get 6 points when we were already relegated? Spurs at home and Hull away

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
The Spurs game as after we'd been relegated but the Hull game was two games before. That great start was helped too by the fact that Michael Carrick and Louis Saha were unable to find the net from the penalty spot although the penalty given against us in the Everton game was a poor one.
Our big problem that season was that if you look at the other five teams in the bottom seven, we did take six points off Hull (also relegated), but just one point off Bolton while all of Wolves, Wigan, West Ham & Portsmouth beat us twice. We weren't, in truth, anywhere near good enough. The good start got us excited and we enjoyed it because we thought it was likely to be a one off opportunity.

Eagles played well in that game.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 6:55 pmSaw the RETRO game on SKY-Rovers v Burnley in the PL when Coyle was manager

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
AJB-yes he did, and a good goal. I really liked Eagles-got that WOW factor when we signed him. Elliott really raised his game two when he came on and had we started with Eagles & Thompson we might have got a result

And yet the nature of the modern game is we still fear relegation each year.

Re: Our Progress In 12 Years
I always recall a bloke saying Burnley represent everything that’s wrong with the Premier League........don,t compete blah blah blah.........my reply was
Really?
40 years ago the club was on its knees
Now it’s a Club owned by “locals”
Their wealth derived from building a business in the UK
No debt
Premier league income invested in the club/training ground
British players (with the occasional sprinkling of Defour like signings!)
Youth given a chance
Historic football ground in the middle of town bringing income locally
Generations of fans, not plastics
Does loads in the community
Children almost born with a Claret shirt on
And he was from Scotland!
