Post by tiger76 » Sat Aug 29, 2020 10:21 pm

Just heard this on the radio https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rP9Z5Pc8cRM one of the 1st singles I bought back in my younger days.

As far as the song is concerned, you haven’t been missing out for all these years.

Two songs I haven't heard in ages. Two songs covered by multiple artists over the years, these two versions, IMHO are the definitive versions.

Peggy Lee:

I've not heard "My pink half of the drainpipe" for awhile, nor "Futilists Lament", perhaps the world wasn't ready for them.

Haven't heard this for 20 years or so then it popped on the radio whilst in the car last week. Took me back to playing a game of pool in a pub in Blackburn whilst on my dinner break at college. Weird how a song can trigger such a mundane event recollection.

First time I heard this was in a Blackburn College break room, blaring out very loudly. I'd been studying (briefly) Television and VHS Recorder repairs. Two things came apparent quickly. I wouldn't be able to stand those noisy break rooms every time I went in and that even the tutor admitted that he didn't see the point. He'd intimated at the time that the tube type TV's and VHS recorders of the time would soon be obsolete. He genuinely looked crestfallen and dejected when he said 'You won't make much of a career from this in the future'. This song always takes me back to that day I decided Tube TV/VHS repairs wouldn't be a good career move. 31 years ago :o

Even at zero volume that song blared out. How she was able to scream at that level of decibels was beyond me

All I remember about this song, apart from it being complete shite, was that it was later revealed that the girl singing, actually wasn't. I'm not sure it was called lipsynching back then, but it sure as hell wasn't her.

Must admit, love this song.

Tess Daly appears in the video too.

Was never a big fan of Slade when I was growing up...liked one or two tracks though.

This is one I liked as soon as I first heard it,I think it was on the coach to Hull in 83 when we got stuffed 4-1.

On another thread someone mentioned the radio station 'united DJ's' which plays mainly older stuff so thought I'd give it a try.

This was one of the first tracks they played, takes me back to my early disco days as a pimply youth..
